Dave Eddings is not just the voice behind
Claptrap, the lovable but annoying robot mascot of the Borderlands
franchise, he's also a former VP of Business Development at Gearbox, and
now the driving force behind Rooster Teeth Games' publishing. But he
won't be back to voice Claptrap in Borderlands 3, and we might now know
why...

I must say I am more than little bit suspicious about the game...
Discussion / Undefined discussion subject.
Also please clean up a bit the stickied threads. Half of them are at this point obsolete, too old to be of relevance.Personally the exclusive deal killed my appetite for the game (and the previous ones unfortunately). Those stories that keep popping up (refusing to pay the employees, assaulting employees, lying to press and others) is merely a positive affirmation of my decision to black hole the game.
Not that I matter in the grand scheme of things, but these are opinion forums, so that's my opinion and my stance on the matter.
I've read articles where they've quoted Dave saying they refused to pay him.. articles quoting he said they didn't offer him enough so he turned them down.. and now articles quoting him saying he offered to do it for free..
It's all over the place. I don't even care. Get this crap away from my gaming.
Fuck the media, it's a complete mess.
It's actually a tweet link chain, won't bother posting more beyond the initial one.
C'mon, robot voice cool as heck. It's one of my favorite in Borderlands.
I am waiting till it comes out on steam. I can expect this game to be pirated something aweful due to the whole epic games store BS, many people will do it on principal as a way to stick the middle finger up at epic.
Competition is good in the market place but its not competition when one store bribes them not to release it on another one for a time. Thats just being an ahole imo.
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!
People who are going to pirate this game would do so even if the exclusive deal wasn't happening.
Although, it they did pirate the game because of the exclusive deal, That's just being an ahole imo.
Aloha Mr Hand !
Because of this I generally separate the art from the person.

Specifically if these folks have actors or actresses they admire the work of.
The artist's personal failing can deservedly overshadow their works sometimes. Most of the time, however, society as a whole separates the artist from the work, to the point you don't even hear about the issues with the artist.
Of course, Randy appears to act like a dick to other industry employees, which isn't a personal act, it's a professional one. That we can judge as Randy the CEO, and he failed there, too, if the reported incident is true.
I thought about you reading through this thread, because I knew you would be familiar with the depressing prevalence of "bad personal behavior" by otherwise lauded artists and creatives. To avoid supporting any bad actors, one would be depriving one's self of most entertainment products.
I am trying not to let that jaundice my appreciation of his film roles. But it's not easy.
Fortunately my memory is shit, so in a few years I likely won't remember he is horrible.
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests
If the artist is a writer or other source that is not visually associated with their product (like Orson Scott Card), seperating their opinions from their work is easy enough.
If it is an on screen actor, negative publicity surrounding that actor becomes much more difficult to separate (ie anything involving Bill Cosby or Kevin Spacey).
This is an interesting case. Randy Pitchford is not in Borderlands, but if the allegations are to be believed, he has a negative impact on everyone who works on Borderlands.
Take John Wayne for example.
"He made the best westerns ever created."
"Ya but he's a racist to the American Indian Nation though."
So because of what he personally believed, his films shouldn't matter and they should be label junk because a group of people got together and said no.
So cause Randy is an idiot, that makes Borderlands 3 unplayable to some. One fuckin guy is all it takes, not to put in the work of 100s of countless people who actually strive to make the game the best game it will be. Nope one guy, the CEO matters more than the blood sweat and tears.
Future is not looking bright people.
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
John Wayne didn't make things worse for the hundreds of good people making his movies.
IF the allegations are true, Randy Pitchford has made and will continue making things worse for the hundreds of people striving to make Borderlands 3 the best game it can be.
For now they seem to be underpaid, all for a promise of a royalties account that Randy has allegedly siphoned 12M out of.
If anything, these people trusting this person to keep his word, will be their undoing.
