I can agree but in my experience there are truly no consequences to ganking. Most in the ganker crowd feed on attempted punishment or consequences.
I was using WOW as an example. I do not think the toggle is perfect but I prefer the choice to be in my control so if its a toggle, a zone, etc... I like that model.
Difference is that WOW was a PVE mmo from the ground up, PVP battlegrounds came later. There was pure PVE content, AOC is a PVP mmo with hardly any true PVE content.
This will be there undoing, just like New World, you would think that devs would of learnt there lesson by now.
Ashes is designed with more PvE content then allot of PvE MMOs. Crafting, Mount husbandry, Housing open world and instanced, Raids, Instanced and open world dungeons both small (supporting a couple of teams) to very large (Seven floors and each floor supporting up to 6 teams. Just to name some. Real PvX done right is your PvE at any time, may include PvP.
Also PvP encounters also have objectives that require you to PvE or you will lose the PvP battle. This is one of their anti zerg mechanics.
Sorry I may have misunderstood. Housing is both open world and instanced? Can you elaborate?
Freeholds are open world housing that play as trading centers, special resources and breeding mounts and can be taverns out in the open world. These will be highly sought after and will add allot of depth and reach for a guild in all areas of the game.
In city housing will be instanced thats open to everyone. It will not have the advantages a Freehold will have. We have no details on what is included in instanced housing. Just that we will have it. Seems they will range from house sized to apartments. All housing is subject to taxation.
EDIT: this is a 3 year old video but does cover the basics and is short. WE have a year ago a long 23 video on free holds I will link as well and is the official video
Okay am not sure about the full loot since I don't play any of the games I talked about but there is definitely FFA PvP in both PUBG and Fortnite.
It's my mistake you just said FFA PvP was popular, I added the full loot which I cannot confirm. However these games are way more popular for FFA PvP than any MMORPG ever was.
When Everquest was the most populated game which FFA PvP game came close? When WoW was popular which FFA PvP game came close? Okay WoW is an anomaly but still I think MMORPGs where you spend time really developing your character and gathering gear people are loath to lose that unless that gear is easily obtained. If gear is easily obtained one of the main reasons people play an MMORPG well normally I'm talking traditionally is to do dungeon and get great gear. If you keep getting that gear stolen I doubt the game will be very popular. I am saying this because I feel that MMORPG players have a more fixed idea for permanence in gear. Even EvE has insurance to help prevent the sting.
I may be conflating full loot and FFA and you may be right the FFA MMORPG are popular but aside from EvE and Albion Online which are good and successful which other FFA MMORPG can you point to that is not Asian but Western that was popular. I am saying not Asian because in Asia this type of games are immensely popular. It's a different market like Korean games are always about PvP. They don't release PvE games only. Not that I know of when I started looking into them.
Lineage I guess. Well I answered my own question. Okay I concede but any new game with FFA PvP that is successful.
