I understand why he kept playing but I still stand by my stance that I don't understand why he did it. He didn't like what he played of FFXIV but decided to play in the off chance that he might like the end game. He could have looked up Youtube videos or read anywhere that the game is just as a heavy in story and linear if he just did some research.
As I said earlier, if he hadn't continued playing, then the reason "his opinion is wrong" would be because he didn't play enough, didn't do "X, Y and Z" content, and therefor hadn't fully experienced the game. That's the standard response from the XIV community.
With the FFXIV community, there is no "right" opinion about FFXIV so long as it's negative or critical.
I don't think it's very controversial to say that watching others play and experience content in a video is not the same as playing it yourself.
But what if he'd done that?
Could you imagine if he'd made his video saying "I didn't play the game myself, but watched videos of others playing it, and it was just boring to me"?
Do you think the backlash would have been any less?
And again, he'd already concluded that the story was the boring part. It's why he bought the skip potions (which he was berated for doing). He said he did so because he was told the end-game is where it really gets good and that he should experience that. He was working toward end-game so he could experience it and decide for himself.
This is all explained in his video. I'm beginning to wonder how many people commenting here even watched it.
If he got death threats he would have posted them as proof. Reality is the down votes look bad on his channel so he took it down.
Oh? He would have? You know this for certain? How is that, exactly? Care to share with the class? You have access to his DMs/PMs? Got his number on speed dial?
And please don't go with "it's common-sense, bruh". Everyone handles situations in their own way.
Reality is, you have no idea and you're talking out of your ass to defend "your game".
I'm not saying it's a safe bet at all, but anybody willing to make a death threat (on social media) behind a bad review for an on-rails Japanese Anime mmorpg is getting laughed at.
I'm gonna need a note stuck in my front door with a knife or something more Buddy Revell'ish to move me.
That guy yanked his video because his metrics were getting tanked due to the thumbs downs. Pulling the video doesn't stop threats as the contents have already become a "thing".
Either way, this thing proves that "first world" peoples priorities are absolutely funked and mother nature needs to press the reset button again.

Lol, naaa dude made accusations that people made death threats and has no proof to back it up and people just believe him cause they don't like XIV.
And now you're making accusations with no proof to back it up. Hypocrite much?
My proof is he has no proof and should have posted it if he did from the start. People have said the same on reddit and twitter and he has not produced on dm or pm.
Your point is decent, how you're attempting to make it is what the issue is.

Generalizing what I said far too much and trying to be clever. You know full well I meant his opinions, not just the info and type of content he covers.
You saying something stupid or meaning one thing while saying other is not on me, sorry.
If you want to get an idea of how rabid FFXIV fans look to outsiders... just take a gander at how Star Citizen's biggest, most rabid supporters react to criticism of that game. It's almost indistinguishable.
Idiot....This is how Fans react lol look at fans of any games or of anything and you'll get those rabid fans...get real.
And you're no different, you're just on the hating side. lol

Yeh, it's hard to talk normally with robot geeks who are so socially inept that they take everything at it's absolute literal face value. I should bare that in mind more often.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Fair point, but he could have done top level play without that surely, got a sit in with a player of that level, or something even better? What I am getting at is it does not matter about having a good reason, if you don't like it don't play it, I can't think of anyway you are going to get fed up of a genre more quickly than doing that.

Facts? Who needs those? Let's just use the social media barometer for everything!
This is the problem that social media influence has on our society. "I got 10k likes so I'm right!"
I'm no fanboy of anything, but Peon sounds like a whiney little bitch. If he doesn't like the godsdamned game, stop fucking playing it. The end of the story. I think he's doing this shit just to get the clicks.

That's most of the Youtubers out there. They overreact for the sake of sensationalism and the clicks that come with it. Gotta make that dough!
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)
Except this isn't the case. My my, what a liar. He never received "Death Threats". I would believe that if it was LoL, or Fortnite, but FFXIV community? As it stands now FFXIV has one of the nicest player base with few exceptions of few rotten apples here and there. I saw a lot of the comments under his video, and never saw death threats, mostly ppl were disappointed.
In case someone of you is forgetting, the lazy peon is paid partner with Black Desert Online, and all of a sudden (right at the release day) he did a video about FFXIV and how awful/pathetic is this game without any solid arguments.
You can't call yourself "content creator" without even bothering to check from A to Z, and what's all about. He did just that; boosting a toon, then complaining about how awful is the leveling, then skipping the entire story, then rushing to end game... and the final judgement "FFXI is trash game"
You don't have to like FFXIV to know where that leads, really. Ppl called him: paid shill, and I hope the 300$ he took from Black Desert is worth the fiasco. On that day he lost of his subs for a couple of dollars.
My guess is that the now deleted video was merely a response to all his viewers that were badgering him to play a game he had zero interest in covering in the first place. He had no interest in covering the game, he merely wanted people to stop requesting it.
As for the FF community, while the general population is what you'd expect from a game with small to no emphasis in PvP, there is a small section of that population that treats FF as a pseudo-religion and any even minor criticism towards the game as blasphemy. I wouldn't put it past such unhinged individuals to sent a toothless death threat.
And you're no different, you're just on the hating side. lol
I'm on the hating side? I played and supported FFXIV through 1.0 through to its shutdown (Legacy account, etc). I was one of the people mocked for supporting it.
I was there through 2.0's Beta, into launch and didn't take a break 'til about halfway through HW 'cause I didn't like the direction it was going. I was very vocal about my issues with it, and more specifically many of Yoshida's actions and BS arguments in defense of poor choices/implementations. I went back again not long ago because I kept hearing great things about Shadowbringers and found myself enjoying it again.
I still have my criticisms of it. I still detest the verifiably BS things Yoshida has said to defend dubious decisions. But I find the game overall enjoyable as long as I play it on its terms, and try not to look behind the curtain too much.
If pointing out the abhorrent behavior of a large, or at least very vocal portion of its playerbase puts me on the hating side... Well.. That rather proves my point about the intolerant nature of folks in FFXIV's playerbase, then, doesn't it?
Well imagine that.
Thanks for helping make my case, I guess?
Thanks for staying classy in your response and only calling me "idiot", though. Must have taken some restraint.
This is why it's hilarious to me that people keep claiming "nuh uh! XIV players aren't like that!" People right in this thread are proving they are.
Did I happen to mention before that I was attacked by members of my own FC when I dared opine that I felt the design of certain areas in the game seemed rushed and lackluster? While I was playing and otherwise enjoying the game? Yeah. I was told by one person, and I quote, "The design is perfect. If you don't like it, go play something else. Otherwise STFU". This was a FC member. That's a direct quote. All I'd said was that I felt like they did a poor job breaking up the repetition in areas of the HW zones and that it looked rushed.
For that I was told to "leave or shut up". Yeah. Tolerant.
As for getting that kind of response from any game. Not so. Go to the ESO forums here, look at all the criticism of that game. Despite being a highly popular and well rated game, it gets plenty of it. Tell me if you see people being slammed, trashed and called "idiot" for daring to voice criticism. There's plenty of criticism to be found there, from myself included.
Find me someone who put up a video critical of ESO, or another game (besides Star Citizen), and received the deluge of backlash in the video comments, in various forums, on Reddit, and on Twitter.... to the point where the video's creator said "nevermind" and took the video down.
Find me another case where even after the vid was taken down, they were *still* trashed by a bunch of arm-chair psychics putting forth "truths of what really happened", and - without humility or room for error - purporting to *know for a fact* exactly why the video was taken down, and that no death threats were sent. Find me some even close to that in another game's community.
Go ahead. I'll wait.
Does every game have over-zealous fans? Yes. Does every MMO have them to FFXIV's level, where people pile on, attack and swarm at the slightest perceived slight against their sacred cow? Besides Star Citizen? No. Not even close.
GW2 and Darkfall had their share of it back in the day. But those people eventually woke up to reality.
Peon is somethin else, he hates reading, hates story, and hates hotkey combat, hates leveling, he thinks all the glory of a game is at end game, plus he skipped Heavensward and bought instant leveling on the mog station.
He seems to only like Korean MMOs with no soul, and loves BDO. Why would he ever try FFXIV?
I watch Peon a lot and why? Well i feel he is genuine in what he says,i might not agree with a lot of it but at least he is genuine, not some FAKE reviewer. Example he really likes his boob sliders, childish i know but i am not berating his reviews just because he is immature.

Not true at all,i was a huge FF fan but i see tons of holes in their games and a TREND the last 7 years or so of going cheaper and cheaper in their production values.Having said that there is a lot of hit n miss but the overall scope of FFXIV,it is a HQ game.
Like are we going to seriously try and berate FFXIV while there are THOUSANDS of utter trash games out there? You know how much effort goes into a game like FFXIV then look at ALL of the ARPG's,moba's,BR's all complete junk,no effort games.Or those other games Dark Souls and the lot, again CHEAP with a capital C...CHEAP games.
So perhaps when people complain they are barking up the wrong tree,i played FFXIV for 6 months,i know enough of the problems that exist and what is good.
Some need to also realize there is a VERY large populace that have NO patience when gaming. They want everything to be fast, fast kills, fast levels, fast rewards and if they can just BUY IT,they will>>>AKA SC buy everything.Peon imo is of the new generation,he doesn't have the patience for a ROLE PLAYING GAME,he will review as such, like the character creation screen, the boob sliders, that sort of stuff. However,as i stated he is legit a REAL person and imo not a sell out and i appreciate that.

I don't think he's wrong. I think what makes it one of the most boring levelling experiences is:
Heavy reliance on fetch quests or talk to another npc
Combat is very slow and uninteresting pre-50
I needed to take extended breaks from the game on my quest to 50, during the days of ARR. It's a common gripe amongst my friends who I've introduced to the game. They can't get past the slow and basic combat early on and there are a lot of cutscenes, fetch quests and "Go here and talk to x". I honestly didn't understand what they were talking about in the beginning, but eventually, I realized that I hadn't done that content in a very, very long time. My view on that early content was warped and biased because I had been in end-game for so, so long. I bet that if I did it all over again, I'd struggle to stomach it.

Crazy. In the 3 months I've started playing I've leveled archer/bard, machinist, finished the entire MSQ up to 5.2, did all side quests, leveled BOT, MIN, FSH, finished a few beast tribes, leveled my Grand company rank to buy a house, finished a bunch of sight seeing log entries, almost finished all the dungeon unlocks I have, almost finished with relic weapon quests to move on to the next weapon, and there is still more to do. You all must get bored easy. Fetch quests never really bothered me much since it's been an MMO thing since kill 10 rats. It also helps if you don't mind reading, if you hate reading then you will never understand the story and I can see why you hate this game.
Without reading everything and actually enjoying the quests it would be hard for a player to enjoy FFXIV . Even for a lot of JRPGs you have to read and actually immerse yourself in the stories. Even for a game like the Atelier series you have to read. What's more you need to enjoy it otherwise everything is a chore and you'll miss out on all the humour and little details you will just gloss over without reading.
