When Neverwinter: Uprising launches later this month, it will come with a new playable race: The Gith. Originally enslaved by the mind flayers, Gith eventually broke free and became independent, though rival bands emerged that rarely work cooperatively. The Gith will be available to VIP members for 2 weeks after the launch of Uprising and then free to everyone for 2 weeks after that. Once the first month is over, those who missed the login opportunity will have to purchase a pack.

LOL, gith before gnomes, I get that they're a monster race in the 4th edition dnd that neverwinter is based on, but come on, well, I guess I'll never play this game.

Githyanki (and Githzerai) are an NPC race that came out in the Fiend Folio (that was in the eighties). They were the slaves of Illithid (Mind Flayers).

It's very strange they would add these as playable races before other standard PC races.

Yeah, they were on the cover. I still have that. The look much slimmer in the book though.

As if the existing races weren't ugly enough with their obsolete character creator straight from previous decade.

    Thank you for your time!

They have a green skin Gith option in character creation, that I swear looks like Jim Carrey as the Grinch

Baldur's Gate 3 features Illithids, which probably means Githyanki too. Either Neverwinter is trying to cash in on BG3 hype or WotC are pushing it for some reason.

I guess it is way easier to dress the standard skeleton with a model compared to make a entirely new one to fit a smaller oddly proportioned one...

Yeah but animations does not always scale properly (as far as i understand it) so i guess it is easier to keep it to the mostly human...

Heck animations wise just look at the dragonborn, some very weird animations glitches with the barbarian class. And they are mostly the same shape size.

Am I the only one who's bored by all those races being recolored humans in cosplay? I would love to play as an Arachne, Zentaur or Snakehuman, anything but two legged.

You can get to lvl 80 in less than a week pretty easily. No real grinding involved

NWN2's main story revolved around the Sword of the Githyanki. The race has a strong history in NW. That's possibly why.
