It's like they took GW2's WvWvW supply line system and mixed it with BDO's node system, splashed with SWG's mayor system and proclaimed "we have a great idea everyone will love!"
It sounds interesting, but I can already see this is just gonna be another mechanic someone will figure a way to grief others to make it not fun for anyone but the griefer, then no one will be doing them.

I don't see it that way. Least of all the node system. It shares the "node" name with BDO but they do totally different things. If the Ashes node system was copied from anywhere it was EQN, not BDO. It resembles the idea EQN had to work on a long term community project that changes the environment, types of mobs, quests, dungeons, etc. that will exist in a node in significant ways.
As to griefing... well, it IS an open world PvP game with an emphasis of city/node vs. city/node. It's neither a WvWvW instance where outcomes don't affect the rest of the world nor is it an Archage mostly PvE solo caravan system.
I think they have good ideas. My only concerns are about their ability to execute them and also whether they'll continue to get distracted with the FOTM gaming genre as they seemed to do with BR a few months back.

Is it open world PvP? My understanding was that there were PvP zones, most particularly around caravans, but I concede it's been a few months since I've last taken a look, so that might have changed.
Also, I don't expect there to be much griefing, although some will certainly try because there are more horses' assess than there are horses.
Since attacking a node will take considerable resources and can only be done after a set of criteria are met, it's unlikely there will be roving zerg bands destroying everything before them.
I'm disappointed in the BR emphasis, but to imagine the studio could be super human and avoid the lure that every other studio has fallen for would be asking too much of anyone.
IMHO, it's a waste of time to follow the minutia of a game's evolution, although many enjoy doing that. At some point, it'll be playable. Until then, anything can and likely will happen. Life's too short to worry about whether Ashes will meet any of its Kickstarter promises, an oxymoron if past history is any indication of the future.

It's "open world" PvP in the sense that it will happen in the world not in some carved off battleground (GW2) or hot zone(s) (ESO, DAoC.) As to what restrictions will exist I don't know.
Games like Archeage for example had a variety of zones some that were PvE always or PvP always and some that were PvP only at certain times. I know Steven played Archeage so he's familiar with that system.
It could also be restricted to just citizens of cities that are currently at war with each other or it could be totally open with penalties of varying severity depending on the current status of your city vs. his city.
I don't think those details have been finalized so it could end up being any of those or something totally difference but whatever it is it'll be happening in the same world space where you also do your PvE, not in some separate instance.

Good ideas and so on. But the main problem with these games is that they are forced to announce them too soon. they need that hype to generate more money. they need that funding. By the time they have all the funding people are bored with the game (even tho its not even half developed). This "live" developing is killing itself. All these kickstarters only sound good on paper. in reality I don't think there ever was a finished mmorpg kickstarted project released.
I don't think there ever was a finished mmorpg kickstarted project released.
Well....Shroud of the Avatar is one, saying "it is finished" is true, if only in a hanging on a cross sort of way.
Life is Futile...er Feudal Online went the Indiegogo route.
Don't think Albion Online had a formal crowdfunding campaign, but raised a lot from selling early access packs on their website.
But I take your point, so far the track record for crowd funded MMORPGs is poor, certainly taking much more time and money (really one and the same) than any of them originally promised during their campaigns.
Probably should have listened to the armchair developers who told them MMORPGs can't be created in such short timeframes or with so little funds.
One unforeseen factor though, that gamers would continually donate more money regardless of the missed dates and broken promises as the years roll by.
Who knew game development would turn into a religion, they probably should file for tax exempt status.
More and more Ashes looks to be much like all of the others, underfunded and almost certainly late to deliver.

This is the one that developed a BR section wasn't it? Hopefully that folly is finished and not taking any more design time up. They need to put their node to the grindstone if they are going to have the sort of complex systems that were mentioned.

Oh no, the BR folly returns once again August 20th, but remember, no development resources were diverted from "MAshes" (MMORPG Ashes) to work on the BR version, aptly named I think, Apocalypse.
Yeah right, and I've got a great bridge for sale here in Tampa Bay....cheap.

Ya this project has taken some bad turns. Im not sure they know what kind of game they want to make. Started as a tab targeting game and now you can pick on the same char, tab targeting or action combat. That includes hitboxes like headshots that do one shot kills. No clue how thats goning to be balanced with a tab target player. Also now the team is lost in BR. I backed this game and I have gone from excited to wondering if I can find someone to buy me out.
Some ppl seem to forget that these ppl spent the cash on a battle ro/ale and then praise them when the* mention the mmo. the memor* of ppl is short and the wallet big. i do like the idea of this mmo though. one can dream.
Lol , why do people waste there time and energy on shit like this
I think hope, i would love to re-exsperience SWG and the stories i and things i tried. I still remember having to learn wookie just to understand m* new friend who was just shouting in some incomprehensible language...after i learned wookie, he turned out to be the best friend ever, although a little agressive towards empire ppl, we had great stories! i remember smuggling liek some rp dude, so i could make cash, then i could pa/ for our speeders, so we could explore, like the noobs we were. one da* we went and purchased a fight t another planet, we could afford this could i had smuggled (means met nice ppl he came running, towards me screaming in wokie RUUN ruun, and it was the empire landing or pla*ers, to this da* i dont know, but we had a hell of a time for man* /ears! and ues, that button is gone! sorr, broken KB
Was hyped, then skeptical when the BR stuff got announced while that should've been PURE testing is now a stand-alone version of the game. I see what you did there.
Now abit hyped again because.. well it does look great doesn't it? And still calling it pre-alpha stuff, so that's something to look forward to. Models/movement/characteristics could use alot of work still, it's stiff/weird... but all and all, looks decent.

I'm not sure how many times Intrepid told us the BR is a testing environment for the MMO's combat and you all still think its a separate game they are developing... hell you don't even have to be a backer to get in and play and try out the combat, just have a registered account on their website.
