My wants are few...

I want a new MMORPG with the following general traits, and I want it NOW dag nabbit.

1. Where we are all exploring and learning together. (Fresh)
2. With a solid population that will last for multiple years. (longevity)
4. With an auction house. (Commerce and trade)
5. Community oriented. (Belonging)
6. With reasons and rewards for advancement. (Character growth).

And a few other things I am sure I would think of later.

All that sounds nice but unfortunately that wont ever really happen for a multitude of reasons.

Fresh can't really happen in this day-and-age because the internet exists. If its 'new' and 'fresh' it'll be streamed and associated audiences will work like zombies to debunk anything associated to it.

As for the other things, the average person now and even in the past doesn't/didn't want things with longevity associated with it. Plus publishers dont see a high ceiling in it. If things are too 'difficult or take too 'long' people will just move onto something else. Plus 'loyalty' translates into stagnation to a publisher since they are more than likely not going to buy the 'new' stuff all the time in every cash shop these games 'have to have' for some reason (reason being because they can get away with it). The more fresh faces a game has, the more likely the cash shop will get new traffic. Just look at FFXIV's cash shop and how often they update it with 'optional' items. They can add new mounts to the shop but can't even give decent seasonal rewards in game have the time now (I think the season event before the FFXV collab was just a song or some crap, while they updated their shop with new outfits in the same month).

The reason people never really noticed it in the past was because competition was a hell of alot lower than it is today and the barrier of entry is essentially non-existent compared to back then. Going into a mmorpg in the past was a commitment because most of them had subs and additional external expenses (like having a good enough system at the time to run). In the end, the market will always reflect the culture and the culture isn't people on forums. The culture is people who give money towards something.

Apart from the auction house that would be great. I mention that as some players think player vendors are better than a AH, while others like to have both together. I am not sure what is the best option, but you need a AH or player vendors for sure.

Get hold of a DeLorean, travel back to 1999, pick up a copy of Everquest and start playing. Apart from that the good old days of MMO's are well over. They just aren't what they used to be.
