EA basic, worth it

MMOman101MMOman101 Member UncommonPosts: 1,787
Hi all,

I have not bought an EA game years.  For the most part they just seemed like they were micro transactioning everything to death.  I see that the the basic version of Origin is $30 for the year.  I was thinking that I might like to try Madden and some of the FPS that they have, Battlefront 1&2 (I know it is old but it might be ok) maybe Anthem.  I don't really care about the early access.

From what I can tell the only real difference between premier and basic is the early access.  Is there are differences between the two outside of early access, that I am missing in the fine print?

For people who have basic, do you find it worth while?

Thanks in advance.

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

People who choice to go this route instead of actually buying anthem when it came out probably find it worth it, I'm sure. Huge bullet dodged.

EA anything is never worth it lol, unless all you play are sports games

If you play many EA games i assume it would be worth it. From EA I only play Battlefield online and some of the single player games that they abandoned so EA Origin Access is not worth a cent for me.

I have origin premiere which I subscribe to off and on.  I got it recently for Madden 20 early access / early play and it considered it the "superstar" edition which gave me extra ultimate team packs.  I usually only play Madden a couple months before i get burned out / frustrated so for $15 its worth it + all the other games you can play

Different roster of available games - premium usualy includes newer games on top of basic sub, ie. Anthem is available in premium sub only iirc.

OK, I did not notice that Anthem was missing from the basic.  I wonder if Madden 20 will be in basic.  I guess I will know tomorrow.

It's not totally missing. Basic gives you a 10 hour trial of Anthem and premium gives you the whole game.

I've had basic for a couple of years and never felt much of need to upgrade.

I played anthem for the free weekend and did not like it much, so 10 hours may be enough for me.

I would say if you don't own any of the games they have on basic it would be worth it for 30 bucks just to play through everything you want to play. I do premium occasionally just to try out the newer games, I did it with Anthem (glad I didn't buy Anthem) I did it for BFV (again, glad I didn't buy BFV), it's just up to you whether or not the 30 bucks a year is worth the catalog you get to mess with.

I would probably guess if you are interested in the new Madden, you would probably need premium, as the big new titles require that.

Origin basic gives you access to lots of good older games. Well worth the money if you never got around to playing them, though I don't bother with most of their new games since modern EA is objectively bad at making video games.

    Ultima series
    Europa Univeralis III

There's probably more, I just haven't played them.

Madden 20 is premier only, I think that means I won't be getting either.  I don't see the value in it now.  I might check back in a month to see if anything has changed.

Im watching Madden guys on twitch the other day spend absurd amount of cash on MUT packs, What a hustle the swine at EA have going.

For those of you that don't know MUT stands for my ultimate team. You buy virtual packs of "football cards" and those players on the cards get added to your team that you play with online.  Hence everyone is constantly chasing the best players and legends

Im a offline franchise mental masturbater so the online portion means nothing to me but , dam, They are making a absurd amount of money with this MUT Pack hustle. EA is worse then the MOB.

That's nothing new. They've been doing this horseshit with all the EA Sports games for a long time. In the NHL games it's the same exact thing just called "HUT" there.

And it's worse than you think. If you take a look at the free HUT cards they give you just to try to hook you, each player card is only good for "x" number of games and then they have other cards you can apply to those cards to give that player a couple of extra games on your team. It's designed to keep you buying those card packs even if you have the players you want.

I only play NHL solo or against or couch co-op with my son but a lot of kids are all about those online MUT or HUT teams. Other companies look like monetization amateurs compared to EA Sports.

Technically, that's enough time to complete the story the game launched with.

O These aren't children buying the packs, trust me. Whether thats better or worse i guess depends on your agenda ..... But getting back on track, The Madden online community is not a bunch of children spending grandma's birthday money. These are GROWN MEN spending Millions of dollars buying packs of virtual football cards that will become obsolete next summer.  This is beyond fucked up what EA has focused their franchise (Madden game not the ingame mode) around.

Anyone who doesn't recognize EA as the money grubbing whores they are is just lying to themselves. A big reason I didn't buy Anthem was solely because it was EA. This is before the game was universally recognized as horseshit. I f you are not actively boycotting EA in some way you are doing a disservice not only to yourself but the hobby we all love.

I have been boycotting EA for about a  decade, outside of ME games.  The microtransactions are not a big deal, as I don't play MUT.  The game has been stagnant for so long, most likely due to the effort put into finding ways to keep MUT going.

I have tried the Madden games via game stop used and return with in a week policy, well all but 19.  I might try 20 that way.

Just a word of warning, if people worry like I do. I had Origins installed to play the Mass Effect series. Origin then grabbed my previously installed copies of Dragon Age:Origins and Amular and would not let me play unless through Origins. When I finally tracked down the Need for Speed 2: Hot Pursuit game from 1997, Origins grabbed that and then made it the later version of N4S 2.

That's when I uninstalled Origins forever and counted my Mass Effect purchase as a total loss.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.
