They are more afraid of the NRA than the video games industry.
Because NRA has padded more politicians wallets with fat stacks of money.
If the video game industry was giving more money and had more policians in their back pocket than NRA - Walmart and ESPN would be putting BIGGER ADs for video games after these mass shootings.
Politics is all about money - whoever pays the most is the one that has favorable policies passed for them.
This is why humans SUCK - we make the worst leaders because we are so easy to manipulate and corrupt.
All political parties are ultimately the same - they all bow down to one thing only - the almighty dollar.
Basically this is what i was trying to say just DMKANO did it in a more concise way.
South Koreans are so serious about their gaming they die doing it....where are their mass shootings? It's not video games. I don't know what it is, but it's not that.
Because South Korea has super strict gun laws and has no "gun culture".
"South Korea has strict gun policies. Hunting and sporting licenses are issued, but any firearm used in these circumstances must be stored at a local police station. Air rifles also have to be stored at police stations; crossbows and electric shock devices are also classified as firearms but their private retention is permitted. Tasers are prohibited, and possessing a toy gun without an orange tip is strictly prohibited. Violation of firearms law can result in a US$18,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison.
The majority of South Korean men are well-trained in the use of firearms, due to mandatory military service. Despite this, gun culture is notably absent in South Korean society outside of the military, and gun ownership and deaths rank among the lowest in the world."
Hmm, that's more detail about what Viper482 was implying than I knew. Thanks for that.
....but hey, all videogames' fault, amirite? And they say that removing guns wouldn't change anything.
"There was nothing we could do about this!" says the only developed nation in the world where this thing happens so frequently.
Ultimately, they know full well what they are doing.
If they deflect the violence debate onto video games, gamers will just peacefully buy their games elsewhere. Most of us already do.
If they place the blame where it belongs (on gun sales), they risk some angry redneck proving their point by attacking a Walmart with a gun in "protest." Not exactly a situation they can win.
I won't be shopping at Walmart at all. Not for video games. Not for groceries if I can help it. I still have local grocery stores that could use the business and treat their customers and employees with a little more respect. Walmart legitimizing the Trump administration's deflection of gun violence onto video games was just the last straw for me.
Say what? So this is the problem everyone wants to protect their own stuff and not be intelligent about issues. So because we play violent video games we get to play the old games don’t cause violence but out the other side of our mouths pretend an inanimate object a gun does make you want to run around shooting people? Millions and millions of people own guns and do not kill anyone the problem is not guns.
The Ohio shooter was not a redneck either and your racism is not welcome. The Ohio shooter was some Duey kid abusing the freedom of artist expression to create music about raping and murdering women and other cool edgy sex acts. Such a creative and amazing artist we should never stifle such creativity...we should have a video game to play created by someone like him where we get rape and grotesquely torture and murder people buts it’s just a video game man it fine it’s art. The people who get excited and want to play those types of games are just normal people too right ??? Wrong.

IMO - it's a combination of both - in US - we love our guns and there's a huge gun-culture present, also the guns are a lot easier to obtain than in South Korea
The only thing accomplished by taking games away from consumers is the removal of a stress relieving outlet which will inevitably lead to more real life violence. How many of us come home from a stressful day at work and just unwind with shenanigans in GTA5 or load up the latest call of duty or w/e it may be? Our government needs to wake the heck up and do what New Zealand is doing after the shooting they had GUN LAWS plain and simple. If they want to regulate games get rid of the scummy microtransaction practices that are more akin to gambling that is all have a nice day...
Lol what ? So wait without video games you will be stressed and start killing people? How did humanity survive pre 1980?
It gets better you then pretend gun laws will stop this because if your willing to ignore the current laws against murder you will most certainly crap your drawers about breaking gun laws??
The real problem is broken systems starting with education that have dumbed down society to the point people think if we can’t deter murder by having laws again murder we should have laws against guns because that will work!! Why not ban alcohol you know more people die from drunk drivers than guns? No one cares though no one cares about saving lives this is pure politics the nra donates to the republicans this the left is constantly trying to destroy guns and the nra. If they cared about life’s you would see outcries about illicit drugs killing thousands from overdose, drug drivers, inner city gang violence but nah we only talk about guns when the activity responsible for the least deaths happens aka a “mass shooting” when every weekend in Chicago alone has more black thugs shooting people than these rare “mass shootings “ do and that happens every weekend all year round and every major city but nothing but silence
It's not guns or games. It's sick people and bad education and parenting. I have many guns right next to my bed. Not one has jumped off and shot me yet. It's acts like this where a shooter caused a mass panic got publicity and changed huge policies that are more likely to cause a repeat. Yep. These knee jerk reactions going nationally public is more likely to cause another incident than 100,000 gun giveaways. They should pass a law where they can't cover these on the news or make the crazy person famous.
You know how many countries just run around in the street with rifles and noone dies? Research that one.

Also adding the Ohio shooter was a radical lefty supporting the current Democrat candidates hated law enforcement and reached out to the socialist rifle association which is some Antifa whack job organization. Most people don't know this because MSM won't talk about because it doesn't fit the narrative of "crazed redneck trump supporter".

It's not just about saving lives, it's about giving people freedom.
People have some freedom to choose to use alcohol, to do drugs, to eat at McDonalds and get fat, and skip exercise, even if it's unhealthy and they will likely die sooner because of it. They also have some freedom to not join the warring gangs.
A schoolkid getting shot doesn't have the freedom to choose anything.
Society isn't there to take away our choice and give us 100% protection from our own stupidity. It's there to give us choice by protecting us from stupidity of others.
The interesting thing about these Walmarts in the locations that were threatened is that they sell firearms.....but I'm sure video games is the problem.
That aside, this whole thing will do the same song and dance as it has been doing for the past 20 years unfortunately. There will be an uproar, followed by legislation being 'drafted' with many disappearing into the abyss as the masses remember that they are too poor to ask politicians to ask for someone else while their healthcare and wages are getting cut to go to the top 1% that employs other countries for cheaper labor and/or less restrictive labor laws.

The reason they are scare of the NRA is because the people the NRA sends emails, flyers... etc to vote. More of them vote at most elections the most of the more liberal leaning members of the voting public. If we want to more reasonable gun control laws then you have to get out and vote and do it not only during the presidential elections.
While I can't comment for the US I can safely say that the "you absolutely must vote" statement at least for my country in my eyes is the most ridiculous thing. Few years ago I remember a reported asked me if I'm going to vote for president back then and I said no and he then asked why. When I told him that having to pick between 2 piles of shit isn't really a choice worth doing he was a bit shocked and later in the evening when they were airing that reporter's bit the part where I was interviewed didn't make it :P
The NRA has 8 million dollars "on record" in campaign donations, You know how much the gaming industry contributed ? Zero babe.... A big donut. Its cute though watching the MMORPG crowd bicker about race politics and all the other nonsense that MSM has people worked up over. I'm no Trumptard but he is right when he says drain the swamp.
I had 4 blood pressure medications recalled in the past 2 years because of cancer causing agents 4 TIMES !!! Anyone wanna know the astronomical dollar amount Big Pharma contributes to both Republicans and democrats ? Democrats being the worst offenders FYI.
This thread isn't about race politics. This thread is about Walmart etc scapegoating videogames, which is what they and Donald Trump are doing regardless of what weird offtopic thing about "Big Pharma" and your blood pressure you are trying to inject into the thread.
Imagine thinking the NRA only has 8 million in campaign donations LOL

I’ve never missed a vote and I’ve never voted for someone. I’ve always only voted for what I believed to be the lesser of two evils. With current trends, in the future, If only 10-20% of a population can elect some one into power you could only imagine the kooks we’d get. We shouldn’t take voting for granted.

55 million in 2016 but clearly you missed the entire point of my post if thats all you took away. Anyway i think I'm done here. Have a great Sunday guys and try to be kind to each other.
We are going to become China or Russia with all mass media censorship. Sad part is people who say they will fight for their rights the hardest are now cheering them on. I can think of a particular Star Wars Episode were we saw the exact thing happen, and we all thought that it seemed so absurd at the time.
The interesting thing about these Walmarts in the locations that were threatened is that they sell firearms.....but I'm sure video games is the problem.
Maybe they think that the citizens nearby might actually want to purchase a LEGAL firearm to protect themselves?

Imagine if one deranged gunman starts shooting and 25 start shooting back. Who knows who’s the good guy? One could only imagine the carnage.
Physical video game sales have been losing ground to digital sales quite rapidly. While Walmart's decision may be a reaction to shootings, they're also in a situation where they're losing competition and probably looking to give video game's space to other products
US computer and video game sales by delivery format:
I clicked your link and Statista is asking me to pay a $50/month(LOL) just to see that data. For all I care these numbers are biased against physical media. I know digital is growing fast, but they also include microtransaction and DLC profit as digital sales to inflate numbers when comparing to physical sales, which is the biggest BS these companies can ever do. Forcing one market to take over an entire industry.
Also, the entire PC market is digital, they can't fairly compare that whole PC market plus the console digital portion(plus mobile in some cases) against the physical portion of consoles alone. Really bad statistics biased against physical.

Who knows. But what I do know is that it's legal to sell and purchase guns. And that some people do wish to buy them for protection. And those people should not in any way shape or form be shamed. Nor should a company for selling something that is legal.
If people wish to do so, they can work to amend the Constitution. That is the proper path to take. If enough people support the change it will happen.

Agreed:
In Canada its perfectly legal to own a long gun or a handgun. You need a licence to operate a car and you need a licence to operate a gun. When you travel with a gun it must be unloaded and have a trigger lock. When guns are stored in the home, ammunition and guns must be stored separately and locked up including a trigger lock. Carrying a concealed weapon is prohibited. You need to produce your firearms licence to purchase guns or ammo.
These rules aren't trampling over anyone's rights, they are just common sense imho.
