I've played pretty much every ARPG out there and mostly enjoy many of them, this was one of the more boring ones that I couldn't bring myself to play more than a couple of days. The character customization is incredibly boring, itemization isn't interesting. The only thing it has going for it is a decent combat system, but that wasn't enough to hold my interest. Possibly has potential down the line if they do a major rework of skills and talent trees, but right now this game is a dud.

I have found Inquisitor to have remarkable depth, fun story lines, great crafting, and the feeling of being very powerful. Decent audio and visuals.

I don't often disagree with player reviews, but in this case I truly believe Inquisitor is the best of the bunch now. Much better pacing than Poe and grim Dawn. Both of those feel slow... Clunky and lack strong atmospheric audio. Something Diablo has captured better than anyone else. I think Inquisitor, if one were to Davie enough into it, may actually find it to be a strong 3 or even 2 behind Diablo. I have.

Arpg games are something I like to visit when I am bored with mmorpgs. Low time commitment, lotta loot, and great (or should be) action.

I don't think pagan at it's greatest potential will ever warrant 8 out of 10. Too many glaring holes.

If you think PoE, is, "slow", you aren't playing the game right. Not even remotely. Did you hit lvl 5 then quit?

Seems you have trouble comprehending non-trivial written structure. Let me try to simplify it for you:
The game is great. The game is not what people expect. The people are disappointed that they didn't get what they expected.

Stopped reading at Diablo 4 will be a mobile game. Diablo 4 and Diablo Immortal are completely different games.

I got so excited when people said Inquisitor is awesome! Then I looked it up on Steam and vomited from the 20 year old graphics.
You really don't know what 20 year old graphics look like do you?
Inquisitor is pretty much the best looking ARPG out there, people like to exaggerate though, a lot...

I think Wolcen is the best looking ARPG (and the one with the most potential), but to each their own.
I should reinstall that one, it is indeed gorgeous. I do prefer the Martyr aesthetic however.

That's a little harsh. Simply pointing out you found it cheesy clickbait would have been sufficient. No need to get out the torches and pitchforks. Clever titles and catchy intros are hard and sometimes go wrong. Read the rest of the article and bring up the points relevant to the game not how catchy the intro was.

So when its a hype, player base going up a bit but straight away going back down.
If a game is good like that I dont think less then 150 players wanna play with it.

I give it a 4/10 when im drunk.

Well there is a huge difference between popular and good

They don't always go hand in hand - you can have a good game that isn't popular.

A very niche game can be amazing for a couple of thousand people and hated by everyone else.

Like Bless Online right, RIGHT??!! ;) I would actually rate that higher than this, this games’ design actively works against its characters and controls.

They play and feel so different I don't compare them directly. WH40K feels like a tactical RTS-"ARPG" and Wolcen feels more like an "Action RPG". I really like both games for different reasons. Wolcen is very pretty, the combat is satisfying, and the skill wheel is interesting without being overly cumbersome. I've tried to be patient with their slow pace because they're trying so hard to get it right and not half-ass it.

I'm watching this game, but it's down the queue behind others I haven't finished all the way yet.
Have you played Martyr since the 2.0 update? It's full action now, in my opinion at least. There's no requirement to use cover or assess the situation before wading in anymore, although you still can if you want to and will be the better for it, but slower.

It might be different for the Assassin, I'm not sure because I've never seriously played that class yet.

People saying that 8/10 is too high havent really played the game and don't understand the inner workings of the progression system. At all.

Ive got 75 hours in, all heros unlocked but only 3 to 30. JUST unlocked the last tier of endgame missions 5 minutes ago and now I can start farming legendary recipes, run the gauntlet, etc (all of the 'true' end game.) 75 hours in...

Thats not bad for a new title.

Don't compare it to POE or diablo or anything like that. It does things very differently and once you accept it, its quite addicting.

7 or 8/10 is very fair. It has a few noticeable bugs, but overall its a very solid freaking game. And the devs are mega passionate about it. Very active in their own discord...

Just curious, how much did the developer pay you for this review as there is absolutely no way any objective reviewer is going to give this game an 8/10?

It could be a decent game down the line, but as it currently stands giving it a 6/10 is generous.

Really?!? Beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder. And I'm my case, this game deserves a bag over it's head. 8/10...

If you have an ARPG itch needing to be scratched, 40k Inquisitor has most boxes checked. Certainly crushes pagan, and poetically so.

While I haven't played Inquisitor, it seems to have relatively bad reviews on steam. Actually the same rating on steam overall that Pagan Online has (6/10).

When you have an IP like Warhammer, there are going to be players who are never happy no matter what. Inquisitor got off to a rocky start and some folks will never get over that. Inquisitor 2.0 is a vast improvement over the initial launch. It's worth checking out.

I wish the Pagan folks well. There's an good game in there and I'm certain it will be revealed in time.

Pagan comes out of early access in 2 days with a massive update and new classes and all sorts of things so this review might have been a little premature anyway.

This is the second glowing type review/check that this site has done for this game.

Comparing it to any other place I can't help but wonder if some monetary benefit was exchanged between mmorpg.com and Pagan

So if Pagan Online gets 8/10 now, when they actually release it with the huge incoming update does the score go up to 13?  :D

P.S. If @DMKano is right about Diablo 4, Blizzard should rename it "Diablo 4: The Zoloft Edition"

Ive been enjoying the Last Epoch more than Pagan , primarily because of more interting and diverse build options and loot ..

also , one of the most immersive and dynamic ARPGs made to date Zombasite is on sale for 4.99

    worth every cent ..

If only some other devs would play this gem and take some of its ideas ....

Interesting. I picked it up. Thanks. The DLC is on sale too so the complete package is only $7.50.
You should be quite surprised if you have not played  it , very dynamic and engaging game .. Read all the help topics that pop up first time .. Soo much info there..

Keep an eye on the event bar .. lots of imporatnt info there .

If you hear battle sound in background .. your town is under attack .. get there asap ( check map for threat)

Sometimes your citizens will fight among them selves .. seperate them .. send 1 out on scavenging ..

Get doors for Village asap ...

Melt down extra gear for reapirs and crafting ... (check go to Clan first in this process ) to upgrade your followers gear before melt ...

Empty vials you find are greeat Fill them with any spill you find on ground .. ( fire/poison/cold etc ..)

Check faction window for missions for other factions ( even to turn in ones you may have completed with outtaking them first )

When you find another factions town go in and grabn the Teleporter( if you end up Allied you can them port into there town to help them) ..

Soooo much more stuff ... let me know if you have any questions ..

Dont get dissapoited by losses , i lose more than i win , but you still take upgrades to yourself and town with your next Map .. Very hard to win maps

Set number of clans to 3 for first play thrus , you can also turn off Zombies if ya want

Everyone is entitled to their opinions and I appreciate hearing them all. I'm also entitled to mine - which is why this is listed as an editorial. You can call me a shill all you want - I've never received a dime from the companies - or MMORPG.com - for writing any article. I do it because I enjoy it and no amount of shaming or flaming will make me change my score. I like the game, I gave it a 8/10 despite it's flaws (which all games have) and I'm not going to change it because you all don't like it.

Oooh, we're talking zombasite now?  I love that game.

This is kinda a cheat but you can make backups of your save file and then use those backups to overwrite your file if something goes horribly wrong (like one of your favorite clansmen dying).  People may have mixed feelings about whether that's legit or not though but it's a single-player game (...typically) so it all depends on how YOU feel about it.

Also, besides various life skills (always recruit farmers since that doesn't cap out and I think they produce more food than they eat.  ....um, probably), good out-of-party clan members to have are ones with buff skills that have a long duration and can be cast on allies.  A clanmember with Resist Cold will cast it on everyone they see in-town (including you) and the buff lasts like, 10 minutes even without any status duration+ equipment. Though Resist Cold is mutually exclusive from Resist Fire etc (can only have one Resist Buff on at a time) so you only need one clan member with one resist skill.  Fire Shield is a separate buff though.

If you run out of zombie potions to cure yourself or clansmen with, you can keep making new characters and shoving their zombie resist (cure) potions into the shared stash over and over again.

Ever since Zombasite, I find it difficult to play long-term games without a city or base-building function of sorts.  Too bad the game's so unpolished but it's proof-of-concept that no other game has ever tried to replicate sadly.

Also leads to some funny stuff like kicking out a clanmember only for him to become your nemesis (Super Boss status, basically) right in the middle of the town square where you and 50 of your clan members are.  Free nemesis treasure chest!

Nobody asked you to change the score but we know when a game is good or not. Someone giving 8 to this, is taken as a joke.

Because there is nothing to justified a high score. Like,.. nothing at all.

So if this is a 8/10 , what's 10/10?  Witcher 3?  In that's the case.. this game is only 2 points from The Witcher 3 ??  I mean… come on.

All you know is whether you like a game or not but that does not mean if a game is good or not. Objectively the game has a good story, good combat system, interesting bosses, a good hero skill system, an average loot system, good graphics and a somewhat wonky level design. From a business perspective it is a flat price with no additional charges.

Holy cow you lashed out because instead of saying the next installment of Diablo was a mobile game they said Diablo 4? It technically is the 4th iteration of diablo anyways.
They lashed out because it was said on purpose at this point. While it may be the 4th iteration of Diablo it is not the 4th game in the main series. That'd be like saying the dragon quest spinoff games are part of the main dragon quest games which they simply are not. Diablo Immortal is a mobile spin-off and it's been known that 4 was in production. It is also indicative that they said it was a disappointing announcement. It's attempting to stir the pot when you make a line like that.
