Say what you want about the gameplay but they changed MMOs forever with having it be fully voiced, even your toon speaks.
Changed, perhaps. But not in a good way. They added a junk feature that everyone else felt compelled to copy, significantly bloating the cost of making an AAA MMORPG. And now we have almost no more AAA MMORPGs, largely because they're too expensive to make. I'm not saying that SWTOR and fully voiced quest text did that all on its own, but it contributed.
Business model. To me it's never been worth the subscription considering how much more content other sub based mmos give for the same price. I still bought the game back at launch for full price and played for like 3 months total before EAWARE went mad with the business model. Treating and restricting every non subscriber as a freeloader pleb is a slap in the face even if you pay them more than an actual subscriber in a given month.

Yeah, and the full voicing schtick makes it difficult to make changes to previous scripts when they need it, makes doing additions more difficult, makes mods less likely, and so on. The studios don't want to pay for voice work, sometimes the folks they used aren't easily available, etc.
Much more flexible to have NPC characters voiced some (first meeting maybe) and then go to text.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.
Perhaps the biggest redflag it was time to move on from SWTOR came one night when i decided to join my wife in watching Say Yes to the Dress on TLC over a lovely game of huttball
played thru the story of 2 classes i think(assassin & sniper). loved the story and the companions i think what got me was the "on rails" aspect just no sense or reason for exploration. i actually liked the pvp on my assassin and that ended up extending the time i played a couple of months. i left before the 1st expansion but have thought about trying to pick it up to play again casually with gf.
I personally still enjoy SWTOR. Some of the class stories like sith warrior and imperial agent are pretty decent, and of course, lightsabers never get old. Sometimes I just get an itch to swing around some lightsabers in an MMO world and SWTOR is the only show in town that can scratch that itch.
