Wanted - RPG Suggestion

WarEnsembleWarEnsemble Member UncommonPosts: 252
One of my favorite games of all time was Wizardry 5, Heart of the Maeltrom. I would like to get some suggestions on a similar game. I understand that the list of games that meet the below criteria will be very small... that's why I have resorted to asking you guys. Thanks for your consideration.

- For PC, emulator ok
- All dungeon content preferred, don't care for above ground like Wizardry 6-8
- Wire frame modeling is ok, but would like to have some color and graphics, although a secondary concern
- The more ruthless the better, none of this hold-your-hand carebear nonsense
- No side scrolling "Darkest Dungeon games"

I don't know if you could stand the graphic, but there are old games called king's field which is quite similar. the game was the predecessor to dark soul.

I have played and LOVE all of the old King's Fields games. I was hoping for something more tile based though.

3d action combat : dark souls 1,2 and 3, sekiro, nioh
2d metroidvania style :  salt and sanctuary, death's gambit, blasphemous

i know they are nothing like wizardry but if you like getting your ass kicked, you are gonna get served with either of those titles.

    I got you.

    Legends of Grimrock 1&2
    Elminage Original (Some overworld)
    Elminage Gothic (Some overworld)
Stranger of Sword City (Some overworld)
    Labyrinth of Refrain
Eye of the Beholder 1,2 and 3 (older - 90s)
    Dungeon Hack (older - 90s)
Wizardry - Labyrinth of Lost Souls

That should keep you occupied for a bit.  Most of them are pretty hard without walkthroughs.  Heck, most of them barely explain how to play the game.

While newer than Wizardry 5 why don't you try daggerfall unity.

mostly wizardry from other plataform do this too from ps 2 Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land was pretty good too, don't know if you know how to use a ps2 emulator

the labyrinth of lsot souls was delayed btw

most games mentioned here was covered already, save for ultima underground 1 and 2, and this one is OLD dos box possible needed to run it

you could also take the wizardry 1,2,3 on snes this one is simplier to make run, though these are also for free in the internet with a dos box emulator

I did saw some others on steam too but didn't play to really mention

FOR HONOR, FOR FREEDOM.... and for some money.

Thanks for all the ideas - glad a few of people know what Wizardry 5 is actually like since several suggested titles aren't even tile based rpgs. I have a full night checking all of these suggestions!

I fully knew my suggestion wasn't tile based but it is a dungeon based rpg, "old" and it was ruthless so I suggested it. It's worth a shot.

Can I suggest the 1987 game "Dungeon Master". It's the predecessor to games like Eye of the Beholder. Fantastic game. There have been indie remakes that are very well done as well as a mod for Legends of Grimrock as well. Happy hunting!

Here is a link that contains "exact translation of the original Atari ST program"

The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians looks especially interesting.

Didn't see tile based in the requirements, not the first time a user has been unclear in what they are looking for. ("It should be just like "XYZ"

Also, I played Wizardry 5, and tile based isn't a "feature" that I recall in any important way.
