I do find a bit of genius here for the marketing department. Pay a subscription to play single player.
Point of order, solo is not at all how I play it, nor hunkered down with my group of close friends (I only have one who games), I regularly hang and chat with, get this.....total strangers... weird.
First time this has happened in a game outside of EVE since like 2006 or so.
I'm sure out there somewhere cats and dogs are sleeping together.
Your unbridled joy in your new found social interaction makes me want to buy the game and play with you. But I play starting at 1 AM EST basically and I msged you a few times on PoE and you didn't respond. I was guessing your name was Kyleran.
So you know, it would never work out between us .
But social interaction sounds cool. I get enough of it at work, talk to strangers all day.
Cryomatrix
Yeah, you had the right name, but I generally log about midnight or so.
But hey, I'll be retiring in the somewhat near future and becoming a vampire, game all night, sleep all day....so perhaps we'll one day get to meet.

I paid my $100. Fallout 76 is the only game I have ever platinumed (outside of Telltale games that throw them at you). Never spent a dime in the MTX store so I will give them some money to support them
Im sorry, but you honestly have no self respect, as a consumer. This company:
outright lied about the effort and manpower put into producing a game
went on a hype campaign with "beta testing" when they knew full well it was no where near ready
proceeded to screw up in every marketing way you could imagine
screwed up their own patching processing
used misleading "sale" tactics in their mxt store
went back on their word about game changing mxt
Now this BS. And that isnt even taking into the account the declining quality of the franchise in terms of rpg mechanics, an ancient, buggy, outdated engine. Sometimes if you CARE about something you dont feed into its crappy, self destructive behavior. But, thats what Bethesda is hoping for I guess. Any money and income for a shitty, underdeveloped, repurposed franchise is just extra income for them. Just keep rewarding them for diminishing quality and outright lies.
I have gotten more hours and fun out of Fallout 76 then anything this year, Even FFXIV. Besides I am not the only one on here saying that this isn't a bad idea or is going to get the subscription. I guess what I am trying to say is... who cares what I am spending money on as long as its on a product that I am having fun with. If you wanted to go buy Atlas or any other game that I think of in a negative light I wouldn't tell you that you shouldn't because of X, Y, and Z
That's what's enabling the madness folks.
This consumer right here.
They don't care. So let Beth milk em some.
What the hell are you doing in F076 that warrents such game time because damn man I ran out of stuff to do a year ago aside from grinding the same ole.
Anyhow he probably cares because you enable bad business models and reward con artists.
Think it's fair to say he's right in this regard. The game doesn't even have the population to profit anyhow.
Sure it is a tad bit high.. 9.99$ would be the "going" rate people seem to accept.
But we are plenty of people who actually find the game fun. It is relaxed, low stakes and quirky. It is not the best Fallout game by any metric.. But it does not have to be... The subscription is nice and i spent more money on a movie ticket + snacks last time i went to the theater.. Fuck i spent that money on a a pair of shots at the bar...
And we are a bit late to avoid "encouraging" companies to do this... like.. vanilla WoW late...
It is the very image of optional....
Yeah but you didn't go off and be "Forced" to sub (Stash size sucks and you all know it) to that movie.
You didn't pay 59 bucks for the shots and they offer alcohol added for additional 12 bucks.
We see you have a social life that's great buddy but your equating it to this is silly.
It's the same story now.
So yeah I guess if you want to reward a terrible restaurant with a big tip and your continued business that's your deal. The more you reward terrible behavior the more you fuck yourself over.
Which is clearly what has happened given this genre is dead as fuck.
Edit: Ah here is IGN now saying it was a terrible idea as opposed to last week them applauding it.
https://za.ign.com/fallout-76/138436/news/even-fallout-76s-most-loyal-supporters-are-mad-at-bethesda-over-its-new-subscription-service
I'm pretty sure the majority of what was added to sub was shit we asked for standardly.
Hell the tent alone was asked for because most of us don't care about base building. I just want a fucking stash box and a place to sleep and grab my purified water.
Subscription is broken, private worlds can be joined by anyone in your friends list, the unlimited storage is deleting items which bethesda originally said was a display/UI issue, and players are saying they are finding npc corpses and looted containers as if it's not really a "new" private world but recycled. Also, some non-fallout 1st players can see that others are tagged as paying customers and are harassing them because of it(so I understand)

I just cannot understand this mentality of "we're too late to avoid encouraging bad behavior." Sure, too late, if all you look at is the ground in front of your feet. You think things are bad enough that you should give up already? There is more bad behavior that we'll see because of people like you who have rolled over and given up.
And to those who have "had fun" and so are willing to overlook all the bad things that Bethesda has done (and will continue to do) and actually give them more money as a reward for the fun you have already paid for... We should be holding you responsible for the future of crap AAA titles that are little better than mobile games made for PC. You are what is wrong with the gaming community. You are why we get games that release broken and put microtransations (MTX) in our single player game (much less the multiplayer ones).
The rest of us need to start thinking with our money. Stop buying these crap games. There are plenty of games made by smaller companies that are a lot of fun to play. Sure, we might miss out on some AAA games, but what are we really missing out on? Most of them have less than 10 hours of gameplay, and the ones with more are now putting in MTX so the game is much geared towards having to spend more money or dealing with more grind. Most of them sell armloads of DLCs. Most of them use Denuvo, which slows your computer down. Most of them are buggy messes when they release. Hell, if we wait 6 months to a year we can get the same game, cheaper than $60, with all the DLCs included, and usually without MTX, or denuvo anymore.
To those that don't care about the future of gaming and will spend money on this drivel (private servers we used to be able to get for free, hosting from our own computers), I detest you. You are why the AAA market is in the crap place it is now.

Hmm, was going to welcome you as a new visitor to the forums but I see you've been here over 9 years.
You might have missed my post in one of these FO76 threads where I accepted the full blame for the decline and "fall" (see what I did there) of Western gaming by purchasing this title, at full retail no less.
Of course, the descent continues with a $12.99 a month sub for such a "bad" game.
Know this, I've not been impacted very much, (or if at all) by any of the concerns or issues others have raised, either by luck, intelligent choices or Divine province.
I do struggle with some graphical hitching and random d/c's which could be crap code or my almost 5 year old gaming laptop with no video driver updates in over 3 years being part of the problem. (Nvidias patcher says I have the most current)
So yeah, while it's all my fault, be sure to not overlook the many who have purchased every crap game delivered by EA and others, bought millions of copies of games I don't like (Fortnite, LOL, ESO, BDO etc.) or those folks willing to toss $250M at a game which hasn't even launched yet.
Yep, clearly my $100 spent has sent a declarative message which every dev picked up on while ignoring my other strong message of not spending more than $200 total in gaming for the past 2.5 years.
Now leave me alone, there are dozens of Super Mutants and Mirelurks I need to cleanse from Appalachia with the liberal use of my trusty automatic combat shotgun. (Its how I "have fun.")

I would be fine with 5 bucks a month. No way is this game worth 13 bucks a month or 100 a year.
A couple of my new high level friends agree with you...well at least not until the npc expansion comes out.
See, the thing is, they play "other games", a concept my friend and I don't comprehend.... there can be one and only one game played at a time. (Yes, I know another person as weird as I am about this)
But hey, since my buddy and I both have subs they are more than happy to join any private servers we care to set up...even promised to reimburse us if we lost our scrap box contents.

Nice. I'll dive in with Wastelanders. Right now it isn't worth it. I played hundreds of hours already and just don't see the value in the sub right now.
