Diablo 3, hello? We got big free updates and we still get, for FREE. They should of enable MTX on D3 if you're asking me a long time ago. Of course, just cosmetics.
So before jumping on the hate train, just .. have a bit of common sense. You will not see any form of "boosts" in D4 that's for sure and I see no problem if they sell weapon/armor skins, mount skins, etc. If they keep the same agenda as with D3, damn, let them sell whatever cosmetics they want as long as free updates are plenty with big paid x-pacs like RoS.
I mean, if you see WoW mounts/pets shop as something which stops you for playing the game, then yea, ignore D4 and move on.
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy? Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
Sometimes it seems like most of you forget that it actually costs money to develop these games. Then when its a multiplayer game there are extra costs in maintaining the game, servers, patches, updates, new content, etc...etc...
A flat $60 price tag may have been able to fund all of that when Diablo 2 came out but it is very unlikely a studio can pay for all of that today with a 1 time purchase and no other source of income.
Cosmetic items have zero effect on anything. You can still play the game just the same as the guy that spends $5000 on every dildo costume they offer. Stop crying so damn much about literally everything.
Luckily there so many good single players game to play that my list is far too long which makes it so I don't have to play any forced online game if I do not want to.
Frankly I am enjoying single players far far more than any online games lately.
Take Elite Dangerous for example...we could have gotten a really good offline version with a really good story and great flight mechanics..instead we got a game with non existent story and boring repetitive grind with the only thing good about the game being the flying itself..turned into a big disappointment.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

Please speak for yourself. There are many "We" , which some I personally know, and are enjoying the heck out of Elite Dangerous.
Its fine if you don't like a game, but .. there are many "We", which likes it.

1) We live in a capitalistic society 2) Entertainment is a luxury 3) A bunch of smart business people with years of experience and advanced education with tons of predictive modeling information and such are making a decision on how to fund a product using tons of retrospective data. Also, circle back to point number 1.
3 points in a different way: The point of American society is to make money (capitalism). . . so why act surprised. Entertainment is a luxury so really . . . it isn't that important. A lot more accomplished people are trying to . . . achieve point 1.
My point is. It is what it is, entertainment isn't important, you keyboard warriors likely have no idea what you're talking about and you live in this society, how come you're not used to it by now.
As i've stated before, the real bullshit happens when you get unsavory practices in things like health care insurance and other things that are necessities and not silly entertainment.
So for every dollar Activision-blizzard spends, they get $1.23 back. So you know, maybe they need MTX. You think the guys who invested in their education by going to top undergraduate schools and business schools will be stupid enough to be like, i'm a gaming purist, only B2P, no MTX ever, that's bad, can i keep my job now . . . .

It's a great take on it and I essentially agree. I don't agree that entertainment isn't that important. But there are many ways of being entertained. If video games aren't doing it for someone then they can do something else.
The way I always look at it is that these companies belong to others. They put out a product and i can say yes or no to that product. which I always do.
If something isn't doing it for me I won't have anything more to do with it. Did that with Elder Scrolls Online, and have done that for a lot of games. Did that with Dragon Age inquisition. I'll do it again for any number of things.
But, if a game seems good and I sense I'll enjoy it then I'll give it a whirl. if I don't want to spend "extra" money I certainly won't. I also won't complain ad nauseum as I have power over my purchases and can choose any number of ways to spend my extra time.

I am ok with cosmetic MTX only. Look, MTX are not going anywhere and 3-4 years from now MTX's might be more in your face then they are today. If they stick with this model until release I would be more then happy
The real issue is cosmetic mtx in F2P games is understandable
But cosmetic MTX in B2P games with B2P expansions....
As pointed above- you are already paying $40-$60 for the game and the same for expansions...
Shouldn't those cosmetics be rewarded in game during gameplay?
Not anymore. It sucks but its the times we live in. Again Blizzard said this game is years away. So even if this game comes out 2 years away I can only imagine what greedy business practices businesses will have thought up by then
I have to agree with Arterius here. Mtx is no longer F2P only, its spread across all games, season pass anyone? It is the time we live in and is not going away, you can choose not to support it with your wallet. As long as I get a game that stars at A and ends at Z im good. I know personally i wont spend money on the shop to get a new skin or mount. I also know like Torval said if they lock chapters in mtx i just flat out wont buy it at all.
As much as most of us gripe about MTX's, I wonder what % still go ahead and do it, because if they keep adding them in games regardless of the outcry, they know we're full of shit...

The only reason I mention it is because you seem to take any criticism of Blizzard REALLY personally. Why is your source self identity and worth so tied to the fortunes of a corporation that cares nothing for you?
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
As long as it's implemented well, I don't see an issue with this. Games are getting more complex and cost more to develop, but players won't pay more for games than they have been. Add in seasons and a constant stream of new content, plus server costs and infrastructure and the money has to come from somewhere. I would be willing to pay more for the box up-front but I'm in the minority, so MTX is the way to go.

An optional subscription as well - i.e. sign up for a regular purchase of MTX tokens with a sugar coating - for one.
Ugh please no.
Thars what BDO does - B2P, with subscription, with heavy cash shop and with RNG loot from cash shop deals too... (pet boxes come to mind with RNG tiers)
Just no.
Was BDO the first to do this? ESO has for a while of course. A-B tried an optional sub with CoD and it "didn't take off" a while back. Sure there have / are others as well,
What I don't understand is why people who "complain" about MTX are OK with an optional sub which is little more than paying for tokens every month.
While true - it doesnt make it ok, not should it warrant everyone just accepting the status quo and just bending over to the current system
Players have the freedom to buy or not buy, just as people have the freedom to change the system and change the government
And not everyone is happy with current brand of capitalism based on infinite spending and infinite revenue growth.
The system in current form is not sustainable.
Yeah but they are still buying. Which sort of means that the majority don't care or are very selective and are still buying "certain games."
Forums are really a tempest in a teapot when it comes to some of these issues. Especially as players age. They want things the way they were.
I think someone here posted that they had a son who wouldn't buy a game because it didn't have a cash shop.
And, while I'm not happy with the current brand of capitalism, I do believe that companies/individuals can charge what they want. If they get takers then It is what it is.
I don't think certain services should be tied into capitalism (health care) but video games? Sure! If companies what to charge thousands for one game then I'm ok with it. I just won't buy (obviously they won't)

lovely how some people ask to be F in the ass no?
they know cash shop f games, games are build around the cash shop, not the other way around, and when games are build around the cash shop even paying is not fun, you pay to stop that annoying feature to disapear, but in doing so you don't feel the fun anymore

It's not awesome by any means but if one understands that publicly traded companies want to always maximize profits then it makes sense.
Yet people still work for them.
