How long has joe blow been here saying "the game WILL deliver this and WILL deliver this!" How long are you going to wait until you realize you have been scammed?
The game will deliver, the game has been delivering, major update every 3 months, you may pretend nothing happens and people play nothing, that's up to you but it ain't the reality.
People on this site will preach SC is a scam even after it is released, it's a lifestyle.
Max, people may be enjoying testing this title, but they aren't "playing" SC, that game doesn't yet exist.
Until it is released, there is no "game", simple as that.
Revisionists need not reply.
I think this is the key point. Why there is a discussion along the lines of "so few people play SC therefore SC must be bad" is .... odd.
There was the discussion a month ago on the Infographic that was put out in which I agreed with some calcs that @rpmcmurphy did. This thread:
To me they say that RSI have a substantial body of people "testing" stuff. Whether its 5,000 dedicated testers playing over 40 hours a week for 10 months) or 1M people generating data from a few hours of playtime the number, imo, is substantial. Companies like ZoS and other companies have lamented the lack of new content testers. And the general reply they got on the forums was: hire some testers!
Totally agree. Typically you hear of whales and hardcore players accounting for a few percent of the total and I see no reason why it wouldn't be much the same in this scenario. If there were 1.5 million paying backers and just 3% are hardcore, that's a pretty substantial 45,000 playing the game avidly and that is like 200 hours each over 10 months. -----------------------------------------------
My opinion hasn't changed. To have that people playing a ... lets see if I can capture all the sentiment "no content, rubbish graphics, bug filled, no concurrency, boring, constantly being patched mess that will never release" .... is quite frankly staggering.
Most people don't touch developments - alphas or betas - ever. And - respectfully @sgel - suggesting that no one plays the game today therefore its bad is simply wrong. As well as suggesting that SC "has" launched - which it clearly hasn't.

I never said SC has launched. Not sure where you got that from. I also never said that noone plays the game. What I did say was that a fraction of the playerbase plays the game as a counter to white knights saying that the game is incredibly popular with the ultimate gameplay that everyone ever wanted. Obviously having so few people of your playerbase playing it says something about the gameplay offered. That's my opinion and experience playing it... maybe you disagree. That's fine.
The game has one of the largest dev teams, with more no-catch funds than any other game in history, no deadlines (which Chris can change on the whim with no repercussions anyway) and has been hyped by hardcore fans and cultists endlessly on internet gaming media.
If you think the gameplay they offer after so many years of dev time is acceptable then ok. I think the game and the company deserve all the critisism they get and it's how the game might eventually get better gameplay.
I'm with an above poster, SOME version of this will release eventually. Darkfall was released ffs, and I was on forumfall. What will it actually be remains to be seen.
Meanwhile ... DING! .... the community answers critics with +1 MORE million ;-) Have fun
DING DING ;-)
Yes, all those players most be really crestfallen about the state of Star Citizen and all those free fly events ;-) Must be Retail therapy ... comfort shopping ... whatever you want to call it. Add another million bucks.
Have fun

Not bad for one week in a "no content, rubbish graphics, bug filled, no concurrency, boring, constantly being patched mess that will never release"
;-)
The Free Fly event - and especially the new "Let an experienced volunteer guide help you" service - seems to be very well received by a lot of newbies.
"Play with a Guide" (for free, during the Free Fly Event)
I could end this all, and just buy my way into the SC. I'm like the black plague to games. When I get excited about them and buy in, the shit usually hits the fan a few months from then.

Apologies if your post was intended otherwise. To me it sounded like you were talking about the game as though it had launched.
How many have played it - we don't know obviously but the thread I linked had a decent discussion on it. And yes a lot of people did "get somewhat upset" about @rpmcmurphy 's - perfectly reasonable imo - suggestion about how many people have played it this year.
Maybe larger than you suggest, smaller than others would suggest.
As for gameplay I agree with you that people should decide for themselves, try the trials, provide (meaningful) feedback. As I have said before SC, for me, has "no content" nor should any be expected. At its core its a simulation like EVE, FIFA, The Sims rather than a content based game like WoW, ESO, LotR; the "content" will be in SQ42. So in that sense I'm not bothered.
I will pick this up on steam sale for $9.99 in about 10 years, i don't have the words to express how much of a shit stain scam this is. KS in 2012, 7 years after kickstarter and 300M cash they have a couple planets and free fly by events to see their tech demo. Forbes is a trusted source, claimed as of a couple years ago they had something like 14M cash left in the bank, spent most of their funds and zero to show for it. Shame on you guys supporting this scam, a sad time period to be a mmo gamer. Wake the hell up and stop supporting these scams.
But most of the money is gone, and the game is still far from finished. At the end of 2017, for example, Roberts was down to just $14 million in the bank. He has since raised more money. Those 100 star systems? He has not completed a single one. So far he has two mostly finished planets, nine moons and an asteroid.
"Forbes is a trusted source"
About a year or two ago, Forbes was publishing articles about a state of the art technology which were full of factual inaccuracies. These were describing flaws of this new technology. My former colleagues and I did an investigation which uncovered Forbes` ties to parties whose financial interests were put at risk by this technology. The factual inaccuracies were pointed out to Forbes, but no corrections have ever been made.
rule of anything over is never trust politician, journalists, people who cheated and criminals, they are not to be trusted in any way or form, so if a journalist toss something you need to get at least 3 sources to start to think it could be true, and even so there is always the chance of its part of a agenda
