So another article beating the same dead horse that countless others already did articles about? Hmmm

Here's the answer in short: Because CIG wants to & they have the resources to sustain that, they are not in a rush forcing the release of the game, that much is visible to everyone I think.
All it really amounts to is more free advertising. If there were any actual foul play afoot, you can bet consumer watchdogs would be all over it. But since the media (we all know their angle, create drama to make money) is the only people interested in this topic, well besides the people that just love to hate on games, but at the end of the day, all it amounts to is free advertisement.

Meanwhile, CIG is laughing all the way to the bank!
I agree with the free advertising. How can consumer watchdogs actually be over something that which uses the Kickstarter terms of use. They basically can promise the world and deliver nothing and the people who put money in, have no recourse. It is throw away money, basically.

The basic issue is people see crowdfunding as: I am buying something

When in reality it is: I am investing in an idea (as it pertains to games, usually) that may or may not see the light of day.

It's not the fault of the platform, nor the idea's fault that investors cannot read the fine print. There is a reason there are people that are paid to invest money for other people. Mainly because in order to be successful at it you need to be informed and pay attention to details, which a lot of humans are far too lazy to do. Which is proven by the amount of ass hurt we see surrounding Crowdfunding.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

I think a lot of people understand that contributing via KS is a risk, but when you have a situation like CIG's where they have been in business for years and received a shit ton of money it's difficult for a lot of people to see it as a risk anymore.

There's shades of gray to all of this.

You think you are mistaken. Reread the Kickstarter rules - it says nothing about 'buying'.

Back when Star Citizen ran their Kickstarter campaign the rules were still that project creator must either deliver the rewards or provide refund. It was a simple enough situation where you've got three options
     a) You'll get your stuff
     b) You get money back
     c) The project creator goes bankrupt

Do you know what percent of total funds were raised during the Kickstarter? Go do the math and you will see how pointless that comment is.
