After you play Disco Elysium - you do realize how bad so many of the other games are.
Example I played Outer worlds - was pretty decent, I played Disco Elysium afterwards - it totally changed my mind on Outer worlds - I realized how utterly shallow and been there done that Outer worlds really is.
So again - in my opinion - Disco Elysium does make those other games way worse, it changes your scale on how you measure games - at least it did for me
Haha well now you're way overselling. Despite Outer Worlds being good, one of the better games this year, it was still lacking in many areas, and I anticipate, with how high you're praising Disco Elysium that it, too, won't live up to the hype your peddling, but that's okay. It's not easy to get excited, so... unless you've worked on the title, I'll just take this as, you've found a game that you're fanatical about.
Good for you.
I sincerely doubt it will live up to the sales pitch we've seen here.
I just think it's silly to bash peoples personal opinions on what games they chose because your title wasn't selected. Most importantly you use critics and awards as an indicator that it *should* have been chosen.
Well everything I am said is obviously my opinion.
So in my opinion they dropped the ball big time.
The beatings will continue until they give Disco Elysium what it deserves
Done:
Disco Elysium is a shit game. I've never played it, but based solely on it's fanbase, I have to give it a 1/10. Did not enjoy. Will not buy.
How's that?
That wasn't nice, was it? Or, do you actually want me to recommend a game I've never played, nor had time to play and give an honest opinion of? It'd look just like the above comment.
Choosing to play something inferior (which is every game on the list in this article imo) over Disco Elysium is a failure in itself.
I don't think choice of playing it was a factor. I don't think game review sites are like book clubs where everyone is supposed to read the same book and then give their thought on it at the end.
I think that's asking a little much, and I'm pretty sure you're a smart enough guy to realize that as well lol.
I think you're also a little mistaken, I think most games on the list, at least the ones I've played, were pretty good. Disco Elysium being good doesn't make the games on the list bad. In the same way that if 5 games are nominated as the best of the year and only one wins, it doesn't mean the other games are terrible.

Outer Worlds... shallow. That is the most insane thing I have heard all day. First they are two different games.
I could make a strong argument that Disco Elysium is really more of a visual novel and Outer Worlds is a first person RPG
As far as I'm concerned, the Witcher 3 and Mass Effect 2 are the current RPG benchmarks.
Disco Elysium would have the be the second coming of Christ, except as a buxom Asian woman with a tray of 200 year old wine of the finest vintage to share with everyone, if it has any chance to live up to those.
@DMKano has such a contagious affection for Disco Elysium that I am tempted to play it, even though it's not my kind of game. He makes it sound like the Citizen Kane of video games.
Sadly, that does nothing to allay my problem, which is that I hang out on a website for mmorpgs evidently written for by people who don't play mmorpgs. Except @MikeB, who plays everything.

I also don't believe that mmorpg.com gave what it said would be "MMORPG's Top Games Of The Year 2019 - MMORPG.com," without mentioning any mmorpgs, and not expect people to react with "hey, what the hell?" No. They knew there would be backlash. I feel trolled. Is this where we are? Trolling the readers for clicks? I dislike being used.
JFC what is up with all you people here and this idea that you are somehow being tricked with titles and word-spin sorcery? Is everyone these days really this daft?
I know you weren't that confused by the title once you actually read it rather than glancing at it.
You are all adults (I hope). Use your better judgment and drawn your own conclusions based on multiple sources rather than being so lazy and assessing a news piece based on what a title or one paragraph says.
Like I say, how is it trolling for clicks when there was literally a 99.99999% chance you were going to click to this article anyways regardless of the title? xD I know times are weird, but don't add to it by not even trusting your own better judgment and making it obvious you are allowing others to control how you should think even when they weren't trying to in the first place.
Glad you're having fun with your Nintendo, or whatever.
Maybe, just maybe, we have an article incoming about our favorite MMOs of the decade? Maybe, just maybe, we play other types of games as well and want to celebrate that?
The website is called MMORPG. The first word of the title of this article is MMORPG.
All you had to do, to do a better job, would have been to title the article: Our Top Non-MMO Games of the Year.
Or was it intended as clickbait for the portion of us that wouldn't care?
I figured out the title just fine lol. You might be new but non mmorpg news is not uncommon to pop up on this site, which I for one welcome. Go back to bed dude.

Nobody can force anyone to play something but we sure can point out when they pick way shittier games - in my opinion.
Also a few people is not indicative of the entire fanbase, trust me the fanbase is nowhere close to being as abrasive as me
So allow me to educate you on something.
First and foremost, when someone like you promotes a game, it marks it as a plague to be avoided by me.
Outside of that, I haven't had time to play much of anything between August and now. You see, I don't get paid to write here on this site. I do it for fun, to give my fair opinion on games so the viewers can make sound judgements on whether or not they should give the game a chance.
Instead, I rely on other means to support myself. Which means College, and a lot of it. You see, while you were gaming to your hearts content, coming in here flaming constantly, I was knee deep in Clinicals at a hospital, and studying my ass off to pass my finals in November.
So no, I didn't play Disco Elysium. And as such, there is no way I could recommend it. And for you to come in here and to say that my choice to play Fire Emblem: Three Houses (which released in July, and I had that month off), was a failure, is a bit...idiotic.
So I challenge you, instead of bashing on our choices, because it doesn't fit YOUR taste, write an in-depth review of Disco Elysium, post a link to it, and tell us why you think this was your top game of the year.
Last time I checked, this article was the staff choices, not reader choices. But, that doesn't mean you can't make your choice valid, in a meaningful, constructive way, instead of being an utter blatant troll.
Ahh, so what you are saying is many of the players are better qualified to offer an opinion of what was a great game.
Good to know, and in fact I'll be playing Disco Elysium based on the many recommendations of the posters here.
Those who know me understand how few titles actually get on my play list.
Oh yeah, that time crunch you are experiencing? Only gets worse once you add family and a full time job into the mix.

And is more credibly asserted somewhere other than on an internet gaming site.

Me: I'm busy. Busy, Busy, Busy.
Wife: Doing what?

Isn't that the best reason to have offspring? So they can earn a low wage doing the stuff we don't want to do, so they 'learn' the 'value' of money and 'hard work'?
3. If the only game you have played in half a year is a Nintendo Switch game you should probably really reconsider "voting". It's like voting for an Academy Award but only having watched one TV show (not even a movie) and writing that name down.
It would be closer to voting for an Academy Award after only watching the Irishman. Fire Emblem is easily one of the best games of the year. Not sure what your idiotic attempt to put down the console is about though. Console games have brought us some of the absolute best games in recent memory. Persona 5, for example, is better than any PC exclusive game I can think of that's released in the last few years. And consoles (including the switch) now are able to have games like Civ VI or D:OS II on them.
Also, its a staff member saying what their favorite game is. If they've only played a couple, but one is a clear high quality, legitimately great game why wouldn't they mention it?

I haven't played Disco Elysium yet (waiting for controller support), but Kano is the guy that used to spend 95% of his posts talking about how great Rift and Trove are.

I'll ignore your childish statements about "idiotic attempts" and actually respond. (And for the record the Irishman was actually a movie and actually could be seen in a theater, but nice swing and miss).
Console games are great... for people that like console games. When/if I want info on console games I would not look at a site named MMORPG.COM for such insight unless it was an MMORPG on a console. Isn't that why the sister-site Gamespace was created? If the entirety of the staff on THIS site cannot find a single MMORPG contender for Game of the Year then I think the disconnect is on their side. It's insulting to the people that actually play... MMORPGs. Not one person could say "Man I loved going back to WoW Classic" and make a case for it based on the fact that it drove the highest increase in quarterly subscriptions EVER ? Or "ESO Scalebreaker was amazing and made the game even better" or ANYTHING... AT ALL... ?
Think about this. A site called MMORPG.COM just said that NO MMORPG was even a contender for Game of the Year. No honorable mention. No mention at all.
There are a thousand (thousands?) of games listed on this site. Maybe, just maybe if some of them were played... some of them might have made the list. But it's hard to nominate an MMORPG as Game of the Year when all you have played for the last 6 months is a Nintendo Switch game.
Totally valid perspective to believe Nintendo Switch game X is the game of the Year, but this is the wrong venue to shut out MMORPGs entirely. Then when called on it. Multiple staff members actually get an attitude with the patrons of the site...

I'm struggling to even recognize a PC game on their list, much less something that actually interests me. About the only thing this list (and article) did was to fuel the current bout of forum cannibalism.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
Still- my conclusion- the writers have terrible taste for games
Also I updated the picture in the article - it's somehow more fitting
Fire Emblem Three Houses has no microtransactions. But nice try.
I was not implying it did - the picture was to reflect the current state of MTX in so many games, it was not meant to be a comentary on Fire Emblem Three Houses - as the vast majority who see that picture have no clue what game it's from - so no need to worry.
The vast majority? This wasn't some obscure indie game. It sold an estimated 2.29 million copies (as of almost 2 months ago), launched a billion memes, and just won the Player's Voice award last night. People know what it is.
Something tells me you haven't played it. You just wrote it off because it isn't Disco Elysium.

Err no, PC Master Race here, I don't play games on toasters.
As for games this year it has been No Man's Sky, POE and FO76, all three with RPG elements and some level of multiplayer.
Clearly its everyone else who are doing it wrong.
