Trying this again

So I originally purchased BDO back in ... on a random Steam sale sometime well before Remaster, it's been a while. I played a bit up to L19, but it didn't hook me and I kinda forgot about it.

Been tooling around with BDM a bit, and decided to go back and give it another shot. Here's what I've run into.

My old character was still there, where I had left him after all these years. Cool. Except there were a lot of issues. First thing was the game would crash once my character would load in.

Trying to get into the game - resolution and graphics settings were totally AFU. Took me a couple of hours just to get that straightened out so the game actually fit properly on my monitor, didn't crash once the character loaded into the world, and wasn't overly fuzzy for some reason. Full screen was changing my Windows Desktop resolution (even after exiting the game).... this was greatly exacerbated because....

Settings would not save. They still don't save properly. I've found that in game they seem to be applied properly once the character loads in, but when the game first starts and through Character Select, some settings just will not save or get applied.

Finally just gave up on that one - it does seem they mostly work once your in game (found a reddit post that mentioned quitting to character select helped, and it did somewhat).

Into the game, and it didn't crash. Cool. I don't remember anything at all. I tweak the graphics settings some to get framerate up, game does look good and runs decently.

One of the settings I had checked was Upscaling - it helped a good deal with my framerate. But now, with that setting, most of my UI dialog boxes were popping up off to the side of the screen. Most of them I could just drag back... but the "Quit Game" one got stuck and I couldn't move it. For a while I was Force Quitting through Task Manager before I found out it was because of this setting. Now I have to toggle this graphics option every time I want to quit the game....

Those are all technical issues, it's ridiculous... I won't even get into the fact that I can't remember any combos, have no idea what/how to allocate Skills or 90% of the other game's functions, or what the purpose of the Skill Combo Display Window is other than it's right in the way of everything. I ended up starting a new character, hoping that going through the tutorials and such would help out, but yeah... didn't so much help and already at the same level as my other character. Still completely and totally lost.

So what is the draw to this game again, since it seems to be fighting me every step of the way?

Wow I'm so sorry, I've never encountered anything like that.

Is your computer old or you run windows 7 or an old video card or anything like that?

I made a few points about the game in this thread. Maybe this will help.

I should add, in the upper right hand corner of the launcher there is a gear icon. you can set your graphics/screen, etc there. why don't you try putting things on low and then log in and see how you go. You can then up it or make changes as you go.

Only make "one change" so you can at least pinpoint, if any, what the problems are.

Computer isn't that old, running latest Win10. nVidia 980 video card (a bit dated today, but still runs most everything pretty well). Latest drivers from nVidia. I did finally get the resolution and windo type set but it was a chore - moreso than it really should have been.

Particular items not saving: UI Scale, skills on toolbar, Auto-Frame Optimization settings, Character Optimization settings. Probably a few others that I don't notice as glaringly.

I appreciate the link to the other thread - some good comments there.

I know there is a delete cache button in the settings for ui stuff. If you can find it (and I found it just now because I was trying to get rid of some of the ui elements) that might help.
