So, am I the only one who thought it was weird to have like 3:40 of talking and some stationary mobs then just 5 seconds of actual gameplay at the end?

This whole thing is giving me Anthem vibes in the sense that they're pretty much launching the game in bare-bones and promise to work on it later....

I'm a bit concerned that with the prominence of weapon swapping, that this game will focus on each character being able to do everything (and even necessary).  Switch to range mode.  Switch to melee mode.  Switch to heal mode.  That sounds very much like a classic tank-mage syndrome in full force.  We'll see how well that works here, because that style of game tends to make very limited choices, with few optimal/popular builds.

With the action-oriented vibe I get from this entire project, I wonder if I'll be able to play this game when it does release.  My reflexes aren't what they used to be.  That's probably going to limit my chances of success.  Which is why I prefer more sedate experiences these days.

Despite the recent outcry about changing focus from PvP to PvE, it is becoming more evident that this is still primarily a PvP game.  That's also not good for me; I prefer PvE.  Was there anything in the article that explained the various PvE aspects that Amazon was reportedly adding?  I didn't see it on a quick read through (and I haven't watched the video elements yet).

I hope it takes a year to master a weapon. Don't like the idea of everyone being able to do everything just by switching weapons.

I think that's more old school thinking. Guild Wars 2 allows one to switch weapons and then of course gain skills as you use it. It's more than likely this is what they are doing.

The days of taking a year to do anything are probably gone for games developed by larger studios.

Also, what happens when you die during pvp? You gotta run back like a ghost as in wow?...uggh and too much crafting for a fort to be taken down?... I’ll pass. Nope. I’ve invested too much in ESO to jump into an mmo that’s not offering anything. -imo

Those getting excited off this review the dude is clearly just stroking Amazon's ego. I'd recommend you check out some less bias reviews such as igns (actually says both good and *gasp* bad thing)

On to the game. I think the world detail is gonna really draw me in, if the gameplay and pvp is good i will stay.

Hopefully they will be ready for launch and will be able to handle the mass influx of players.

This is probably the most 'positive' review I've seen this week. Nearly every other review talks about the apparent identity crisis the game shows to have, the lack of meaningful content, and the lack of innovation.

The author does indicate clearly as to why his review is more positive than others - He is not a PvP player. Still, to all you non-PvP players out there; Be wary of New World, everything about it so far simply reeks of lacking content, a result of them changing their game design fundamentals 180 degrees just 8 months before release.

For the PVP Elder Game, participating in the castle sieges I’ve already discussed will earn your character XP and chances at better, higher-level loot. And while this will clearly be a big part of the “end game”, you don’t have to be max-level to participate in these wars.

This is incorrect. Because PvP battles are instanced, guilds will only want to take their 50 best players. Casual Bob is benched - permanently - from the only PvP content this game has to offer. Doubt me? Play ArcheAge, have fun joining a castle siege. Even Albion recently dropped instanced/capped wars due to it excluding too many players.

So there, New World, a game with effectively no PvP content, and only barebones fetch quest PvE content. Buyer beware.

I dunno, was kind of refreshing to read about the game from the point of view where the writer wasn't determined from the start to find something to sh!t upon.

Ah makes sense now why they changed from PvP to PVE just a few months before launch.
If they had released the game like originally planned then they would have to do constant PvP balance changes like every PvP game has to do. If you have other projects to work on that would be an impossible feat no matter how much money they have. Going the PVE route removes that responsibility almost entirely and them saying they'll add PVE content is the same line SOE gave landmark players. They didn't actually have to do it they just had to convince players they would sometime in the future. They can add one PVE thing every 6 months and technically they wouldn't have lied.

From a development studio perspective with an unlimited amount of money BUT a limited amount of devs do they continue to devote resources into new world which from the start was kind of just a slapped together idea or put the majority of the effort into that high name recognition IP they just licensed called Lord of the Rings. Easy answer.

If you look at those scenery shots for New World if you said they were certain areas in middle earth it could be possible just throw a dwarf or elf into it.

New World could very well be the landmark >> eq next testing ground for the middle earth MMO they are making and I don't object one bit. Lord of the rings fans age range from very young to senior citizens just like star wars. Boomers could play it with their grandkids.
It would really be foolish of AGS to not go all in and put New World in maintenance mode even before it has launched for the goal of creating the new hit MMO with the Lord of the rings IP. Imagine all the lands of middle earth with those new world gfx. It would almost certainly be in the top 5 most viewed on twitch and wasn't that what AGS wanted from the start?

I am a long long time mmorpg player. I am currently in between mmo's. If you are invested in FF or ESO i dont know that this offers much to entice you. For me it is scratching that itch well. I am enjoying playing it. End game and enough content for long term adoption and fun is still a question mark. Will heavily depend on guilds it appears.
