I've been looking for a new AAA MMO with a big budget behind it to come out for a while now, and whilst I've not looked into New World that much, it seems to at least have the budget behind it.
From what I've seen online though, it seems that PvP is going to be a big part of this game. As a PvE player myself, is New World going to be worth getting? I enjoy quests, dungeon runs, raids, upgrading my gear, skills, etc. like many PvE MMOs provide, but I'm not sure if New World is going to have this kind of thing.
On that note as well, is it considered an actual 'MMORPG' or will it be more like H1Z1, Conan Exiles, ARK Survival, etc. where your character starts off in the middle of nowhere and you have to craft a bow by punching trees haha?

I don't think it has "raids" though I wouldn't be surprised if it had public quests.
It's probably more like Conan Exiles on Steroids as far as population and having quests.
Though it seems the quests are a bit boilerplate from the articles I've read.

Not to say I haven't enjoyed quests over the years but at this point I'd rather not have npc blacksmiths but would prefer to buy from players, I'm tired of quests (though public quests are fun) and I've never been one for raiding because it seems in these games you have to make it your religion.
But what you just said? Hell! I'm pre-ordering!

In that case, I'm guessing there's no actual goal to pursue in terms of PvE? I knew it was a sandbox, but didn't realise it was THAT much of a sandbox where I have to come up with my own ideas to have fun. Whilst that's probably nice for a lot of people, I tend to play alone in most MMOs and am never really into conversing with big guilds etc. I guess I'm pretty antisocial in game, but like being a lone wolf, unless I'm grouping for dungeons etc.
I prefer PvE but I can PvP when I need to. So I'm not going to let that put me off.
I am hoping they have a free trial. Would love to test the waters before purchase.

Redsalt... the other salt.
Sounds like another vapid survival game masquerading as a MMO.

People discussing this game like they are still working on it need to think about other games TWO months before it launches and how much info is released to get potential customers hyped and this game has had none of that. They have had 1 stream and one release of "faction concepts" like the game just started development or something...
Right now the game looks like a bare bones indie early access game on Steam just with better gfx.

I mean if i use your analogy to "what's the point"in real life, well what is the point in real life if we are just going to die?You try and immerse yourself in the world, enjoy your stay while it lasts, there is no point or end game that goes on forever. So what would you do in real life, work, build, survive. In Atlas the realism was better because we also sailed the seas, could swim and hunt in the water.Creatures had a VERY realistic nature about them within Atlas,so good i have never seen as good in any other game.
So New World needs to build a world that gives us the feeling of realism. However this started out as a simple pvp game, a very shallow game,no different than a BR game, except with parts of survival built in.
So now they don't see the big numbers, they see $$$$ ,that is all Amazon cares about,so now they are trying to sell the PVE idea. There is no way they can move from a pvp game into being a pve game over a few months,at least not unless it will be a meaningless pve addition to the game.
What do i think will be the point?I see them selling the faction idea, controlling areas ,more like playing Eve online than a survival game.I think they are going to promote pvp, perks for pvp and hang the pve'rs out to dry.
The most effort that is going in to this game will be marketing, trying to get websites and streamers/you Tubers to promote an over rated game.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
looking for some casual online games.
I dont' play mmorpg anymore because it is too time consuming.
It's not how I would design PvP. I'd do it like DAoC, WAR, GW2 and ESO with persistent 24/7 PvP zone(s) and just PvE elsewhere - I've never been a fan of flagging - but those 50 v 50 fights are the end game it's got.
Like I've said before, for the PvE part I have no problem with bad guy invasion events like Rift had. If that's done well enough, with enough variety instead of the lame way ESO does it in fixed spots on a timer, I'd rather group for that than a raid any day of the week. It's the kind of stuff MMOs should be all about; not all the solo quests and by appointment only grouping for raids.
I'm not sold on the game enough to pre-order but I won't write it off until I see what it's actually like post release with populated servers. If those mob invasions are done well enough, I'd play it just for that.

There are NPC's. Apparently there is a starting Quest Giver , or at least so says IGN. That gives you asinine quests like "Go run over there, and kill some things, and come back to me, and I will send you back to kill more things" I don't really know anything more than that.
It's not technically a survival game where you punch trees for wood. From what I could figure out, they give you newbe starting gear.. for whatever that is worth.. but you at least start with a knife in your hand and a pair of pants. This kinda remains to be seen.
Now this is what they try to explain in their trailers and stuff, and some of this has changed, very recently in fact, they have changed from Open PvP to a Faction Based PvP game, driven by territory control, where you work with other players of your faction to build a city, or fort, you together, defend your fort and try to claim control of other lands and locations.
There will be PvE events, where MOBS will directly siege and try to overrun your city/fort.
There will be PvE World Bosses.
There will be PvP Sieges and Fights, where other Factions will Attack you.
But for the most part this comes across as a crafting/building game, like some kind of Minecraft meets DAOC.
Honestly.. I don't really know more than this.. and even this.. some of it is just conjecture on my part.
How agile they'll be with changes now is anyone's guess.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.
I think the reality is a few people ganking 24/7 is enough that people can't pve at all.
Again "Most" MMO developers really dont understand why things Succeed and why things Fail.
Philosophy of MMO Game Design
If the game has open dungeons like ESO and ruins to explore, and a piece of land I can decorate and farm, I'll be a happy camper.
