Looks like these mechanics are from a game that is ten years old.
I thought that as well but the description of the video explains it. . they use low poly models for testing purposes. . not sure the reason they give is good enough but that is the explanation.
I felt like the dude on the right who looked tuned out watching it then.
most likely because they made those images at a college. The Art Institute has setups exactly like that.
Its starting to make more sense now. The crowdfunding is so they can go to art school in order to help develop the game more efficiently. Genius Caspian! Genius!
Well if anything,it takes some work to add in all those various animations.
IDK ,it doesn't really matter anymore because they already botched this whole ordeal up so.Already operating a cash shop,i am not doing cash shops anymore.
I have a few mmorpg's i am waiting on so this bird has flown.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I don't want to be that guys but You guys need to understand that during development process they do it on a client with low fidelity and low poly graphics.
It's much easier to work that way to test different scripts and animation. etc. coding all of that stuff without having to deal with loading the texture bump maps and everything else that come with more updated polished looking graphics /Client,
~The only opinion that matters is your own.Everything else is just advice,~

I think you missed the part where this stage should have happened years ago.

What they do internally is one thing - they can develop it with coloured blocks for all I care if it makes their lives easier. What they show to their backers is a completely different matter. There are plenty of kickstarter and indie projects out there (e.g. Ashes of Creation) that are in a similar situation, yet you don't see them show the world neolithic graphics years after they already published fairly decent-looking stuff. Perception matters and CoE is the only MMO in development where the perception is that with each year things go from ok to bad to worse.
But actually, graphics in this video is only a minor issue. What I find shocking is that this game seems to degenerate across various areas. Take a look at a very similar CoE parkour video published in August 2017 (!):
When you compare it to the one just released, you can see the serious drop in animation quality, the way character moves, jumps, falls, etc. In some cases, animations have actually been removed (e.g. when the character drops down at 0:57). Traversing ledges and jumping between them looked way better three years ago. The pinball part at 3:45 is just a wtf moment - I don't know what they were thinking, but Warframe this ain't.
Basically, the output quality of this studio goes down across the board and even stuff that was already there three years ago (and one would assume should only get better with extra time and work) noticeably deteriorates or is removed (lost?) entirely.
This game's history is like the premise of the Planet of the Apes.
Well it was alright, but its been in development for seven years?
Depends who you ask. The Kickstarter was in June 2016, so coming up on four years but at the time Caspian said he and the team had been actively working on the game for a year or so before then.
I believe the reason it appears SBS went backwards is around the end of 2017 Caspian announced the original solution using SpatialOS was impractical for "reasons", laid off a third of the team, and basically went back to square one at the start of 2018.
Now it seemed pretty ambitious they were going to develop in house a new set of tools to replace those discarded, but Caspian still forecast releasing the game by the end of 2019, a date which remained on their web page until the first few days of 2020 when Caspian finally removed it saying he had no idea it was still there.
Just last month Caspian was caught musing on the SBS Discord that the replacement tools /languages weren't working out so well, being unable to scale up properly for a MMORPG so he was doing some "investigations" to consider replacing them once again.
With all that's gone down its not all that surprising their graphics look like something a team might use in the first year or so of development as for all purposes, that's pretty much where they are right now.

i like the plataforming /traps in mmorpgs , and this "Tomb raider feeling" , few mmorpgs give u that.
Their are probably some good reasons for that, not the least being the typical MMORPG player isn't looking for such in this style of game.
I recall loathing all of the jumping puzzles SWTOR had, GW2 also and I wasn't alone in this.
SBS often touts COE as a game with heavy realism, nothing breaks that more than having players clad in heavy armor wall walking, sliding under traps, or zip lining across a gorge.

Perhaps "tights" will be an armor set?
Well I will say, this is looking to be an amazing Dungeon Running Platformer MMO Game, which in today's market, would be a very unique style of MMO.
DDO, had similar parkour mechanics like climbing up/down and sideways, jumping, and tumbling, etc. And I really loved that about DDO and almost no other MMO has provided that same kind of feeling of mobility.
So even if they don't get to the Throne War/Resource Management part of this game.. this could be new gen of platformer MMO dungeon style games... and could kick off from that.
Edit Added:
Also, despite the Jumping Puzzle hate, a lot players loved the unique platforming systems of the mounts.. so it was not "Platforming" that was annoying them, for many, (Myself included) it was how GW2 did a Jump Puzzle, where you had to Jump your way through a puzzle, like some old arcade game with 1 button. The mounts on the other hand, were received with much praise, and players loved the aspect of using different mounts to transverse various terrain and obstacles.

Why are they doing something so animation heavy, that's one of the most expensive things you can do. In how much intial work you need, the number of limits you force modelers for gear into, and how much effort you force your whole team into for getting everything to 100% (constantly tweaking everything).
Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent.

Gonna be another Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse incident if they do that, going from what's supposed to be a resource-politics MMORPG to a Dungeon Exploraton Action game.
And yet, since that's the type of mechanics they decided to have in their game (for some stupid reason, since this was supposed to be a Resource-Politics-PvP whatever MMORPG), I don't really see any other path forward. This is going to be fun to watch unfold if it gets there.

That is a solid point, I mean, they made a point to explain that this game was going to be about resource control, harvesting, and crafting, as well as land ownership and politics... and what they show is a platforming game.
While I like what I am seeing, no doubt, this alone could be the foundation of a epic shizzle dungeon running game, that I would be very inclined to play...
I am not seeing what they were originally talking about, and their key points.
In any case, credit where it is due, what they have shown, looks pretty cool none the less.

Never seen a game, go down in graphics over time :P
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
I backed the game but I am starting to worry now. I understand grey boxing tho.
I'm sure that is just to test and show off the "traversing"
