Five MMORPGs I'd Love To See On Console

    FACT....early on when there was a lot of bickering about Wow,the defendants were quick to make claims that Blizzard kept it a low poly,low demanding game to reach out to more players.The bickering went on a long time so i had to finally speak up and state something.

    IMO Blizzard COULD NOT do Wow on console,otherwise like everyone was saying,Blizzard would have done it to reach out to more players.At the time i made reference to Blizzard outsourcing SC Ghost because obviously,they couldn't do it.This is a long standing reason why i stated that such a huge studio is not very good at their job,they cannot make Wow mobile.FF 10 year,can they NOW pull it off,well give anyone enough time they could and seeing how Blizzard has gone full tilt cash grabs,they might just do it.

    GW2,already a game missing features and a team that is imo SLOW and worse than Blizzard's Warcraft team.So now some want to put a larger burden on this team and THINK they could deliver...lol not a chance.Hire someone else the way Blizz outsourced Ghost,yeah that work..maybe,not really that many quality studios out there.

    There is a bigger picture at play,devs are already working towards mobile,that is a MUCH tougher task than console.So again i have a feeling if these games people ask for were doable by their studios,it would have already happened.

    I already see console games looking 10x better than most pc games,not because of the system but because there at THAT many low quality studios making games.So would people really want these games outsourced to some low bit studio and completely butcher it?

    I am good with Consoles having more MMOS, but most of those games for me at least I prefer WASD keyboard/mouse. I would prefer if more IP 's already on consoles had MMOs made of them, IE, Xenochronicles, Tales of series, Legend of Heroes, Zelda/Breath of the Wild, Atelier etc. I would love to see any/all of those as console MMOS, rather than porting older established games. That way we have something new, not rehashed.

    Please explain why BDO and ESO are not mmorpgs? "Massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) are a combination of role-playing video games and massively multiplayer online games in which a very large number of players interact with one another within a virtual world. " seems pretty self explanatory.

    I don't want to see any MMO's put on inferior platforms be they consoles, mobiles or calculators. :)

    I'm also not a fan of art or museum type stuff but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be museums for the people who do like them. Use your brain kid.

    because you don't like to have precise control on what you are doing? because most games on consoles need to be action oriented or is become a really issue?

    any fps player who are used to play on PC and then play in on console notice the slow aiming speed, and with that even slower enemys, and these games always have aim assist, and any fps pc player wish tehy put console players agaisnt then, so they could easily rank up k/d without a effort


    don't matter any MMORPG worthy his salt will have several skills you need to use, imagine AION I used around 30 mapped keys to use potions and skills plus marks on to pull mobs, imagine using that on a console, impossible, really dumbed down "action" oriented mos could work, games who you just need to spam 2 or 3 skills and be done with it



    That's just nonsense. FF14 has tons of skills and many are needed to be used. It is certainly way more complex to play then something as WoW or even WoW classic. Yet it plays perfectly fine on console.

    I use emulators to play console games on the PC. There are so many games on the console I want to see on the PC but  it's never going to happen. I understand the desire. The same desire I have to play the console games I presume console players have about seeing the games they want to play on the platform of their choice.

    Also don't forget something, no one here will argue that Everquest isn't a true MMORPG right and yet it has only 8 spell gems if I am not mistaken. You can only memorize 8 spells at a time. So a game like that is suitable for a console but the age and other considerations will never make it so. There was an Everquest game called Everquest Online Adventurers that you could play on the PS 2.

    What about FFXI and FFXIV those are definitely true MMORPGs. Ask @Wizardry about FFXI and he will wax poetic of FFXI and no one here is going to argue FFXI is not an MMORPG and it was a bloody good one. What about FFXIV? Both these games are on the console in fact I played FFXI with party members on consoles. So, so much for arguing you cannot have complexity in console MMORPGs. You people are just locked into your ideas and biases about consoles is all. Some of the best games I played are on consoles.

    So I definitely understand it even though personally I dislike controllers with a passion and use a device to convert every console game I can for the keyboard and mouse unless it is a turn based one. I am totally useless with a controller but I would never argue that consoles are inferior as far as games go.

    There are so many grown children here lol. Let the genre expand. Mapping 30 buttons to a controller is easy. FFXIV proved that. if you can't adjust it's the equivalent of someone not adjusting to mouse and keyboard.

    Anyone using the term TRUE MMORPG to keep it off consoles does not want the genre to grow.

    BDO is not dumbed down, at all. It's the choice the devs make, they can make a complex mmo on console if they choose, FFRR is also a great example of this.

    Star Wars would be an easy port IMO.

    You can't play WoW with a controller, at least not Vanilla WoW since it has a lot more spells that are being used than Retail WoW where you just spam 1 button. But WoW will never see a console release, because Blizzard is no longer capable of creating new games.

    Do you need more than 32 skills ? That is how many you can map in FFXIV on to a controller.

    I had 103 mapped in DDO on my controller, was a bit fudgey, and convoluted, but I managed to pull it off.

    I am curious if you can map all the skills you want on the controller, chat with the keyboard connected to the console, move around with your thumb pads, what exactly is the difference between playing an MMORPG on a PC and a console again. Especially if you're playing a game like Everquest where the pace of the combat is slow. Everquest is as old school as you can get.

    I personally cannot do it because my controller skills are abysmal but I really had no issue in FFXI and FFXIV with players who used their controllers. They definitely typed in conversations way more than players do nowadays in most games. I didn't even know they were using controllers until they said so. So what is the difference?

    When I see "MMORPG" and "console" in one sentence, I feel disgusted.

    There should really be a new term for this generation of arcade fantasy online games.

    "MMORPG" should refer to the old school, slow paced, role playing games...you know, the ones that are no longer being made for almost two decades now.

    Whats wrong with faster paced combat? not everyone wants to live in the stone age forever you know.

    I'm sorry what makes ESO *not* an MMORPG? What definition are you using? It does everything WoW does, albeit a bit differently. So if you consider WoW an MMORPG you cant omit ESO save your personal opinion.

    Not to mention the pace of combat has nothing to do with consoles. There are plenty of slow paced games on console.

    I actually prefer MMOs developed for consoles, but I rather play them on a PC.

    The reason I prefer console-developed MMOs is all in skill bloat. Most MMOs that work on consoles do a very conscious job of limiting the number of available skills, and instead of just throwing 50+ skills at you (most of which are extremely situational and rarely used), they instead tend to lean on ability combos and positioning -- or at least the ones I like do.

    But the reason I prefer to play them on a PC is that I hate giving up my keyboard. I don't really mind using the controller at all, but I really miss being able to type when I want to, and I loathe voice chat. Yeah, you can use a keyboard to chat on a console, and I have, but sitting on the couch I just can't make it work comfortably; sitting at a PC on a desk though is just more natural.

    FFXIV I love to death, but I can't play that at all on a console - they kept the skill bloat, and require chording on a controller, and I just can't get the hang of it.

    I always though GW2 would have played very well on a console though, and never saw it come over.

    This is a good point.

    I mean why have 50 skills when you end up only using like 6 of them 99% of the time, and the other 44, for specific situations.

    I mean either have all the 50 skills matter, and you need button mash like a squirrel jacked up on meth and red bull, or just chill out with the pointless skill bloat, and streamline it.

    Why in the world would you attempt to move a game that is designed to run on a PC and move it to a primitive console?  The only reason ESO managed to do it was their UI was basically designed to handle it with limited keyboard inputs allowing a controller to be used.  And by the way that is the major issue with ESO, extremely limited skill use!

    Do your commentators every play these games and actually think before they write????

    I’d love to see some legit MMORPG on Switch. WOW, FFXIV, SWOTR, STO, NW. I’m currently playing Warframe on it, which is good fun action MMO, but it doesn’t quite scratch the MMoRPG itch for me.
    The Switch can't handle AAA games let alone a a large MMO.  You would need a 2nd generation to handle it.

    Go try ESO with it's horrible UI to see what a MMO looks like on a console.  None of those MMO listed in this thread use just a few keys.  You would get zero raiding done that way.

    Really?  As your party dies and you are still trying to get to the one spell you need?  That is exactly why a controller is junk compared to a PC interface.

    Really?  As your party dies and you are still trying to get to the one spell you need?  That is exactly why a controller is junk compared to a PC interface.

    The same way I use my MMORPG mouse, muscle memory.

    I personally cannot do this but I have played with people who use the controller in FFXIV and FFXI . I was honestly shocked because like you I never realised people can use their controller with such skill. They played very well and were respected in the guild and played complicated classes. It depends on the player's skill. I dare say it takes way more skill to use the controller than the mouse and KB in FFXIV.

    You've never experienced it personally I guess playing with people who use controllers in MMORPGs which explains your scepticism. Just because you've never experienced playing with people who perform well does not mean it cannot be done.

    I have a great deal of respect for these players.

    trying to get to the spell you need? is that spell hiding on a second screen or something? the buttons are right there. If you are a healer you obviously map healing spells to the main hotbar. Or are you telling me that using a keyboard for the first time you magically know every key location on it? People playing with controllers get used to it just as easy as people using keyboards get used to it.

    I use both and I have never had any issues with either choice. Why some people blame the unknown is beyond me. It's OK if you prefer one, but you don't have to make it sound as if the other one is terrible or impossible. Set your mind to one peripheral and you will play every game better on it. SImple as that.
