How many people who play ESO (and/or any other popular MMORPG on the market today) play it because they think it's great (or even good) as opposed to those who play it simply because they can't find anything better to play?  Do you have accurate statistics on this?  Have you taken scientific polls of a reasonably large sample of people who play these games?
If it's the best thing on the market, doesn't that by default make it good?

I mean I suppose, players could have the view the game "sucks balls", but if is still the best thing on the market, that would just make everything else is on the market to be worse then "sucking balls" ... and I don't think that is flattering to all the games and all the people that like the games other than ESO.

Who says ESO is the best thing on the market?

I played vaporware and there are people enjoy playing it.

Even if in your mind majority of ESO players for some odd reason play a game they don't love, I'm sure there are at least some people who enjoy playing it.

The reality is everything you want is already made.  There are no gear progression game, there are faction pvp games(or at least there are some being made now), there are sandbox games.  You want everything you want pretty much customly made for you.

If you want to play faction pvp games, are you going to play camelot unchain or Crowfall?  I guess not.

You can log in and play Legend of Aria now.  I guess you won't even bother to try.

Hmm.  So you're saying that I should settle for something that has some of the features I might like, even if it possibly has a few (or even many) features, systems, and mechanics that I will not enjoy or find interesting (that may even annoy me or bore me), sit down, and shut up?
I dont' play ESO because I don't want to waste 100 hours of my life doing boring quest just so I can start doing Realm vs Realm.

I dont' play pokemon go "any more" because it is no longer a game where you play on the "walk", i realized I spend too much time playing sitting still.

I tried looking for AR games with little idle times.  I tried looking for enjoyable turn based MMORPG.  I wish there are such games made, but there aren't.  But I realize the world don't revolve around me.

Most of the mmorpg aren't Wow clone.  They are just low budget games where people dont' give it a shot.

Really?  Well, when I was still playing Neverwinter, I encountered more than a handful of players who had got tired of playing ESO and switched to Neverwinter instead.

At first I thought Legends of Aria was an old anime MMORPG.  Sorry.  I'll take a look at it and hopefully try it.

And I actually don't mind low budget games if they are well-designed and interesting.  I've tried a few in the past.

You don't have to "sit down and shut up", but maybe adjust your expectations a smidge? Everyone who plays a video game can either play a half good, or half bad one. Maybe focus on what you find the most fun and find an MMO that fits?

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

I did that for awhile.  But I squeezed all the fun out of those MMORPGs I could while in the meantime making suggestions for improvements or and/or additional features to be added to the games on their forums.

Anyway, I suppose I don't need a game to be made exactly the way I envision for one to be made.  But I would like a game to be made/exist that is more like the game I would like to play.

I'm in the exact same boat. No MMO out now makes me interested enough to spend any money, let alone play for long, because I know I'll just spend a few days (not weeks) putzing around.

Where I differ is that I'm tired of "dreaming and disappointment" and play single player games that I enjoy, instead. You have not hit this point yet.

PS: only a handful of developers actually visit this site, so any "suggestions" or "dreams" go unoticed :)

I kept playing Neverwinter for longer than I should have because I couldn't find anything better or anything else that really appealed to me at the time.  I don't think I'm the only one that continues to play a certain MMORPG for the same or similar reasons.  Time and money already committed to a game can also be factors.  Some people might figure they might as well get their money's worth after paying the initial cost of a game, a subscription, or a DLC.

I think players have already been doing that for too long, and have started just walking away. That's why WoW's numbers are dropping so alarmingly now.

IDK how WOW is doing but judging by the huge increase in Diablo 3 new player questions on reddit, the pandemic has brought tons of new players into what's already a very old game.

It would surprise me if player numbers are not up right across the industry... for now at least.

So no one continues to play an MMORPG just because they can't find anything better to play?  No one continues to play an MMORPG while hoping that it could be better or that a better game might be released?
Are you able to follow this logic.

They are playing an MMO because they can't find anything better to play.

    Ok.. Lets process that.

That means: that MMO is the best on the market to them.

    Ok.. Lets process that.

That means: If the MMO they are playing is not any good, all the other MMO's are still worse.

    Ok.. so.. Logic Process Done:

Ok.. so how did this confuse you again?

Who says ESO is the best thing on the market?
    Everyone still playing it ;)
    “Everyone”

     excluding those that don’t, lol.

Anyone who is not still playing it, is not included in the Everyone.

I think players have already been doing that for too long, and have started just walking away. That's why WoW's numbers are dropping so alarmingly now.
That's an opinion at this point, we'll see how things progress.
IDK how WOW is doing but judging by the huge increase in Diablo 3 new player questions on reddit, the pandemic has brought tons of new players into what's already a very old game.

It would surprise me if player numbers are not up right across the industry... for now at least.
My family got a switch a couple of weeks ago and got Diablo 3 on sale so we can play together.  I played the PC version and wasn't impressed but man, it is incredibly fun in co-op mode on switch.  So yes, I happen to be one of those "new" players.

I tend to agree with this, and I think they are walking away to other games, not other MMO's but other styles of games.

I mean, this is just my feels on things, but, I believe at some point, if you are playing what is the "King Shit" of MMO's, and you are bored, tired, and burned out on it, you are not going to play some second rate knock off, and expect to rekindle the love for the genre.

I wasn't confused.  I'm just not sure I agree that ESO is the best thing on the market.  When I tried it during the last free play period, it didn't interest me enough to play past the intro.  But like I said, I know of ESO players who switched from it to playing Neverwinter.  I don't think any MMORPG can qualify as the best right now.  Some of them have features that are better than others.  But that can be subjective.  Some of them have systems and mechanics that appeal to one type of player more so than they appeal to another type of player.  That's to be expected when the vast majority of them are just different flavors of the same or similar basic design.

I might try Camelot Unchained or Crowfall.  But no one can guarantee that those games will be released.  And just because a game has faction-based pvp, that doesn't mean it's going to be well-designed or interesting.

Legend of Aria is still in early access.  I don't like to play games that aren't finished.  I trying logging into Arcfall and it's really buggy right now.

Okay, I decided to try downloading Legend of Aria, but it was taking a very long time and slowing down my computer by quite a bit.  So, I may download it tomorrow night when I'm sleeping or something.  Still, from what I've heard, I'm not very optimistic about it.

Those that feel ESO is the best thing on the market, typically. The same is said of other games people feel similarly about.

What difference does it make. There is no best thing on the market. Rather, there are things on the market best suited to what a particular person wants.

ESO just happens to best suit what a fairly large number of people want, making it one of the more popular things of it's type at this time.
