I love how so many are bringing up PSO being 8 years old as a bad thing. The biggest MMOs right now are around that age. FFXIV (ARR) is almost 7 years old, GW2 is almost 8 years old, ESO is 6 years old, and WoW is almost 16 years old. Hell, even BDO is nearly 6 years old.
The game is one of the best MMOs out. Good review.
Completely agree.
I played quite a bit on the Xbox but am waiting for PC launch to continue as I don't want to have to redo content a bunch of times.
The game is fun, I like the open nature of the skills and how you can freely switch between 3 different weapons (or the same depending on what you want). The instancing was a bit hard to get used to, also the massive amount of content thrown at you at once was daunting, but the game was some of the most fun I've had in an MMORPG in a long while.
psst, cross play and cross account have been confirmed between PC and Xbox One.
What makes it any different from the other Asian MMO crap we have seen ported to the west?
Ignore the part where he rants about the game not releasing in the west. Start at 2.28...You can have a pretty good idea why this game is good from this video.
I also jumped through the hoops to play the game in Japanese.
Maybe some players just hate the Japanese? Perhaps they still can't get over Pearl Harbor for some reason? Even though America dropped atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And honestly...<REDACTED>...
I don't hate Japan. I just don't like their RPGs and PC Culture enforced through EULAs. I just don't like their particular style of game, the art style, or the way they have booming music all the time... It's why I can't play FFXIV.
No one here was alive when Pearl Harbor happened, so you can stop acting like you were there and witnessed what happened.
I'd hate to imagine what you would tell Jews if a German company developed an MMORPG you liked...
Clearly, they'd be Deutschphobic if they didn't like it, right?
If I loaded up and played this game.. how is is better then say TERA, Aion, or FF14?
Egotism is the anesthetic that dullens the pain of stupidity, this is why when I try to beat my head against the stupidity of other people, I only hurt myself.
I laugh at the few posts above.FFXI is a JPN game and contains none of that "booming" music,i don't even know where you get that notion from because it is similar in all cultures of gaming>>>a mixed bag.
There is also a well know THEME song from FFX "Return to Zanarkand" that MANY an artist has copied and presented to You Tube videos. It is the FURTHEST thing from booming music ..lol.
Now there most certainly is a distinct design to games from different cultures, some more prevalent than others but again it can be hit n miss like in any culture. One example that could be tagged to JPN gaming is the oft used ANIME theme.
To poster above, this game is NOT better than ANY of those 3 you mentioned,it is simply or was simply heavily influenced by marketing like all new games.A recent example Persona 5,also that anime theme but a game i can't stand,i feel, it looks like utter crap but with heavy marketing, paid off websites/reviewers it garners more attention than it deserves. There is definitely a case to WHAT type of game attracts sales, like i have noticed a heavy influence of Anime being attracted to gamer's who simply grew up during that era.I have NEVER been one to get trapped into my generation of beliefs,i have my own beliefs in how a certain genre should play out and i seek it,it doesn't seek me.
I guess in a way i was lucky because when i was very young the only gaming we knew was Monopoly or chess/checkers so i had no influences of any kind other than board games.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Perhaps you did not read any of my posts in this thread following the one by which you were so greatly offended? If not, then I recommend you do so. If you still can't figure it out, congratulations...

Depends on what you think "better" means. It's a different game than any of those, it has casual pieces of the game, and hefty grinds for those that really want to min/max.
It's more streamlined than those games in some areas, but also has a ton of class customization.
I guess it just depends on what you enjoy and what would make it better than those games... for you.
I adore anime so these types of games check all the right boxes for me. I also played the game in Japan. Boy signing up for it required some serious research and commitment.
Miss the older sega party/turned based games where you had a lot of unique members but not enough room for all.
Not sure im fully down with the new style of the IP, granted it took them a decade to try to bring it here....maybe ill take a look.
Really a sad state of affairs in the mmorpg world where a 10 year old port is a big deal, and the game with the most news is WOW...still....and one new western AAA mmorpg on the horizon that doesnt seem to know where it wants to go.
Are we really at a state where a 10 year old port is hype?

Yep guess which game I'm gonna play and which one I'm gonna skip entirely?
Yeah the one I'm gonna play has blocks
Also the obsession with Japan in western culture (especially when it comes to younger people) is pretty dumb.
Guess what - go live in Japan for a couple of years - and you'll see that it's nowhere near as great in reality - the work culture is awful, people are polite on surface but really don't give a crap about foreigners at all and actually dislike foreign influence, the society is very close minded etc...
No you are not welcomed in Japan - look past the surface politeness, look at the work culture, look at discrimination against foreigners, look at the stupid high cost of living, gender inequality is accepted as normal etc.. etc..
again that can be said about any country and culture, there is some good things and other bad things in all places where there is people, plus we are talking aobut a game who old timers played still on megadrive and later in emulators, in the end is all about quality with all new mmo is lacking, i'm far more willing to talk about what they put in the games based on the company country tehy culture is based and then try if it a good game or not
defending western or asian games is a waste of time, both side have good and bad games

Note: This article contains a few inaccuracies. For example, it doesn't even mention Robotech. Nor the fact that anime videos were available for rent at places like Blockbuster Video and Tower Records in the 1990s.

I don't anticipate Minecraft Dungeons to hold my attention very long. Then again, Minecraft itself didn't hold my attention for long either.
In regards to Japan, it's a moot point. Japan actually has a pretty high tourism business. It's actually one of the top 10 countries for tourism in general. Simply telling anyone to "go live there for a few years" is ridiculous. Go live anywhere out of left field for a few years, I think you'll find pretty quickly that, if you can't speak the language, and you don't understand the customs, you won't find it very easy to get by.
Regardless of how you think people who are "obsessed" with Japan actually feel about content coming out of Japan, it has nothing to do with PSO. PSO has been PSO for more than 20 years.
People can like something from Japan and not be "obsessed with Japan."
So far, PSO2 has been pretty popular on the XBOX, by comparison, YOU should be thankful. SEGA and Microsoft aren't trying to hide an 8 year old, Japanese game behind "westernized" design changes. They aren't "reimagining" combat, or changing the loot structure, or pretending that this is a completely different game than what it is like so many of the other Asian games that port to the west. PSO is just PSO. For those that like it, it's going to be what they expect.
I may try it at least once. But I remember reading another reviewer say that the story is bad, but you don't play this kind of game for the story but for the game play and the game play and the game play is enough.. or something along those lines, but I'm the complete opposite. I will bare with a game with good story and bad game play, but will not bare with a game with bad story no matter how great the game play is. I don't really care about the action, for me the story is the main dish and the action is just a side.

'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'
Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
