Those are all fair and good criteria however Voxels offers us another layer to game play.
We should not be fooled by bad developers of which are many,i have seen some AMAZING voxel graphics, you wouldn't even know it was voxel. Not only have i seen it,i saw about 7+ years ago from a SINGLE person slowly making his own game.
Matter of fact there are videos arising showing upgrades to Minecraft even, graphics that look pretty good.
This is why you hear me saying so many games are bad, what is POSSIBLE in this industry right now is incredible,we are just not seeing it because as i have stated many times, most studios are in this to make as much money as possible, the quality is not their concern.

What's wrong with indie? You don't need a soulless corporation backing a game for it to be good.
Pillars of Eternity, Mount & Blade, Path of Exile, Warframe and dozens of other fantastic games come from indie studios.

As ever, there are exceptions. I do play or have played Warframe (and I'm a master founder) and Path of Exile among others. In regards to games like the Witcher 3, I consider them to be AA given the studio size (and Warframe is another such case given its massive 300+ person studio size - hardly what one thinks of when they think of an indie company).
But I find the vocal hipsters praising the indie sphere as the font of gaming creativity to be obnoxious when most of the indie sphere is the same 2D platformers, Roguelites, survival asset flips, and "retro" games. There are great indie games, but they are drowning in a sea of average games and outright crap on Steam.
Moreover, I've found them largely unnecessary in my personal gaming time. It's so easy to call the AAA sphere soul-less when you're judging everything as an EA, Activision, or (to a much lesser extent) Ubisoft. When in truth, that label is as wrong as considering all indie games to be passion projects. I could fully populate my gaming hours with incredible, high-quality, passionately made games even if I never stepped outside the realms of Nintendo, Sony, Capcom, Bandai Namco, Sega (or more precisely Atlus), Square, and NISA. Let alone all of the other companies on that scale doing anything approaching their quality of work.
Tops on my list is: "Made for everyone." (You can't please everyone...)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR
I'll try most anything. I have been pleasantly surprised so many times when I have overlooked the labels and tags of description. Like the films I watch, I follow creators more than games or genres. So I tend to find projects by others I know or have worked with and then explore, test and play their creations.
You remind me of my grandfather. His advice when it came to food was to try everything and anything, or how else would you know if you like it.
He lived up to his word, you name it, he tried whatever someone called food, bugs, all kinds of strange animals, plants, etc.
Still thought he was nuts....because it turns out he didn't like most of those weird foods, most ended up as wasted money and in some cases, severe gastrointestinal distress.
Same with gaming. Most folks know what they like and their tastes are fairly well set.
Sure, they could try 100 different games outside of their comfort zone but likely no more than a very small number will prove enjoyable for any length of time.
To me it's not worth the time or money to risk suffering through 90 bad games to find 10 I will enjoy.
Instead I do research and basically stick with the very small handful which appeal to my very specific tastes.
I normally try and play no more than a small handful of games in any year, three or so on average, never more than five since the 90s.
Two so far this year, FO76 which carried over from last September and Disco Elysium which I had my family give me for Christmas as a lark, mostly because many here were highly praising it.
I hated it....for multiple reasons, quickly setting it aside after only a 2 or 3 hours and returned to the wastelands of Appalachia.

Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
