Rift will always be one of my favorite memories for an MMORPG. It was so phenomenal at launch. I have a few in my family who play MMOs as well, and we always reminisce about how Rift had our favorite PvP. So many good times on it, hopefully this guy is from the glory days of Rift, and not the disastrous times.

I have to say if they are still hiring designers it is not coming out soon but maybe next year is reasonable.

Two of the most generic MMOs ever, both copied WoW for most of their gameplay. EQ2 came out as a hardcore group based game and after wow smoked them the first year, EQ2 totally changed the game and became a wow clone.

SO they hire game "designers"AFTER they start the design?SO they are building their games on the fly, just winging it?The fact they changed course directly into Ragnarok and with obviously no prior planning at all, more of a ok we got some more money, let's do this.
Geesh sounds about right, the state of the industry, shown right here.

    @above poster..
I think you got it just a tad ...wrong.

EQ2 came out of the gate the better and bigger game and FIRST.Wow spent the next 3 years trying to catch up and add EQ2 ideas.

EQ2's changes had NOTHING to do with Wow.They changed the death/gear drops ,what does that have to do with Wow?Then later they changed the stats removing all stats except everyone had Stamina +1 stat, again that has nothing to do with Wow,that was simply a LAZY design shift.

The third change was to supposedly "TEST"the waters on a cash shop
Next phase was to turn ALL of SOE into cash shop gaming and added aa buy into all option, pay one price get all the games,Then proceeded to remove games from the portfolio.

Last phase, sell the business to Nova/DBG and sellout all your employees of which many were fired very soon into the transition.

Yeah i would say the ENTIRE period of change had absolutely nothing to do with Wow.

    Could well be.

Or it could simply be that so,e people have left- it does happen. We are only talking about 4 (four) hires - not exactly a huge number.

I figured that move didn't sit well with you.  No criticism of that opinion: I think it was a bad idea, too.

Co-development of Ragnarok will cut the remaining development time of CU from 6 years to 5!

What's strange is ive seen more developmental updates after people gave them so much crap about working on another game when they're 6-7+ years deep into a game that doesn't even have a core gameplay loop in.

Now all of a sudden were finally seeing some development? No matter what MJ tries to tell you.. they did that Ragnarok stuff to pull in more resources to CU because they spent the better half of 6 years just creating a engine.

Bet this...MJ is gonna sell that engine and retire without ever releasing CU. I do hope that Camelot Unchained releases because i would love to play the sequel to DAoC but man.. i don't see it happening for another 2-3 years at least. Well at the very least ... Ashes Of Creation actually looks like a game now.

Still waiting for my backer refund they promised everyone was going to get after they opted to go with a shitty alternate game. Takes 2 weeks for them to get back to you with a message from Mark Jacobs assuring you they aren't derailed. Waiting 107 days since getting that response and still no refund because they are now using the excuse that since they are all working from home due to COVID nobody seems to have access to an online store platform where they can initiate refunds? Did the one guy with access to the account leave his password on a sticky note in the office?

whoa, I'm not saying that what they are doing is the right way to do it but they give updates every month.

that's one thing that hasn't changed, e-mailed right to our inboxes.

MJ's snippet on that from MOP (I assume that's what you refer to):
As you may/may not remember, during the GDPR days we made some changes to go overboard on compliance, including putting some of the data on offline (it’s not even connected to Internet in any way) PC. So, unless I go in, I can’t get it. One of those things is email addresses as well. The data is encrypted and none of the games has access to that data as we use an Account ID (which is not created by the user) instead of email for even more GDPR compliance. Again, we talked about all of this when we went into GDPR.

So yeah, until I’m willing to go into the office to process refunds or take the data out of the office to my house, I can’t process refunds. And I have no intention of taking user data home from the office. Fortunately, I stayed in the office longer in March than I should have (I sent the team home weeks before) so I could process refunds until the last possible day.

And since my wife is the high risk category because of her breast cancer, as well as one other issue, we’re not taking any chances and I’m not low-risk myself but I’m more worried about her. Hopefully I’ll be able to go back into the office next month. Virgina, especially where we live/office is was a hotspot but is settling down so I’m hoping that the delay will only be a month.

At the risk of me sounding (once more) naive, I wouldn't go there and accuse him of excuses after him publicly mentioning such serious health issues and concerns, unless I had data and links that disprove his first paragraph beyond doubt. And I am one of those that really despised the way he handled PR on CU and the whole Colossus fiasco. But I'd rather sound naive than cruel.

You can always hound him for a refund after the COVID crisis is officially over, since that's the reason he cited. It's not like CU will come out before that.

Yeah I can honestly say I never saw this. I checked out and fired off the refund request months ago when they pulled that crappy tower defense out of their ass. Black Swan event or no, it's always in a companies interest to hang on to as much money as possible when the well is running dry. I haven't heard of anyone successfully getting a refund and can't help but challenge his claim based on his word alone that all of their transaction data is sitting on a magic box in a corner somewhere he can't get to. Maybe working in the 21st century has me thinking that kind of data is worth my company being able to access, but the money is probably all spent already so they don't need our info anymore to give back something they don't have.
