Computer Keeps Giving No Display?

A guy gave me a PC to work on and I can not get anything to show up on  any monitor.  The PC will turn on all fans kick on the optical out light comes on.  I can hear the hard drive spinning, but I have tried VGA / DVI / HDMI, and I also tried installing one of my spare graphics cards in it instead of using the onboard connections.   I have also tried hooking it up to my monitor and my TV and no luck.  Another thing I found odd is the PC does not beep.  I removed all the RAM and no beeps.  I am not sure where to go from here.  I am guessing power supply or motherboard, but I am not sure?  Any help would be appreciated.

    It sounds like you've done a decent amount of troubleshooting.  Some other things to consider is checking and possibly resetting the BIOS.  Disable the power settings in the BIOS, windows might be starting up into a power saving state and producing the blank screen before it loads.  Simple, but this has happened to me; check the brightness and contrast and other settings on the monitor.  If nothing still works, the monitor itself or maybe the motherboard might be bad.

    1. Try resetting the BIOS. Refer to motherboard manual for instructions

    2. You might need a beeper to get the computer to beep. Something like this:

    i can't get into the bios unfortunately.   I know the monitor is good because it is hooked up to my PC.  The monitor is reading "no display ".  I will dig more into resetting the bios.  I tried removing the battery and shorting out the + - .  Could it possibly be a power supply issue?

    Look for bend pins under the cpu ?
    Could be some pins are bend that controls the monitor output..i once bend some pins that controlled the second ram slot..

    Usually power supplies either work or don't. An issue where the power supply gives some power but not enough is rarer.

    It could be a power supply issue, but I'd look at components like motherboard, CPU and RAM first.


    Since you said you removed all RAM I assume there's more than just one RAM on that computer. You can try to start with just one RAM stick at a time. If neither of the RAM sticks work alone, then it's unlikely to be a RAM issue.

    Just checking but I assume whoever gave it to you to troubleshoot also could not get video on his display, correct?

    Well supposedly the guy said it was running slow and wanted it reformatted.  I do not think he would lie....It was my former boss and I worked on a couple of his other computers before.  The PC has 3 sticks of RAM.  I tried to remove the oddball one with no luck.  I might try the other memory bank.  Would bad RAM cause no display though?  I might order one of the MB beepers see if that gets me anywhere they are very cheap.  I did find the jumper to reset the BIOS and what not, but that did not help either.

    If the computer is trying to use its integrated graphic card (which uses RAM for graphic memory), then yes.

    Also RAM is something that is easy to check since there are multiple sticks and it just needs one intact stick to boot.

    I noticed one thing.  When checking the processor the thermal paste on the heatsink was shot.  Other than that i have not made any progress.  I bought a speaker and a PCI MB tester which I also thinks is coming with some sort of PSU tester.  Supposed to be here monday or tuesday.

    I got my PC Analyzer and am getting code EE00 which does not make sense.   EE says looking for floppy disk in drive A.  Reading the first sector of the diskette.   The PC has no floppy drive.   00 says code copying to specific areas is done.   Passing control to INT 19h boot loader next

    Have you tried a fresh battery on the mobo?

    Yeah i tried a fresh battery yesterday and yet another gfx card.   I am clueless.   My speaker arrived today hopefully it will give some insight
