What are your emotion-driven game choices?

what I mean is the following:

What is your game you play when you are doing other things (i.e. main game or work)

- mine is project entropia that i do when im in zoom meetings or doing electronic paperwork type of things. Essentially, if im on computer and not playing a game below, id do Project entropia.

And rocket league in zoom meetings as well.

My hardcore or competitive game when im alone and need to focus is starcraft 2. Preferred game of choice at the moment.

My talk-on-phone game is MLB baseball the show when i have to be on the phone for some time.

My sulk and pout game would be Path of Exile. But that also becomes my main game if i play for even a little bit.

My ladder-anxiety game is rocket league. (i.e dont want to play starcraft 2)

My change-of-pace game is Civ 5 or witcher 3.

What are your [insert the blank] games?

At work i... well.. work. So nothing there ;D

My main game is whatever long RPG I happen to be playing at the time. And I'll almost always have multiple games on rotation to change the pace. It's very rare that a game grips me so effectively that I must exclusively play it from start to finish. The last time that happened was YS 8 Lacrimosa of Dana.

My stress/anxiety game is any Dynasty Warriors or spinoff. Fire Emblem or Hyrule Warriors preferred. ARPGs like Diablo 3 can also work.

My social/multiplayer game is usually something like Warframe or Path of Exile.

I don't really have a hardcore or competitive game anymore. I basically quit arena PvP experiences entirely. Too stressful these days.

When I have a lot of time in one sitting I will play a role playing game.

when I'm "chilling" perhaps ready to go to sleep, I play Darkest Dungeon.

Also, I tend to like more puzzle type games before bed (if I'm not watching a movie) so signed up for PlayStation Now and have started Ico. Which is really pretty amazing.

But that's pretty much it. I don't really ascribe games to emotional states. More about how much time I can devote.

I have genres, rather than specific games, that match my emotional needs.

When im feeling creative, or day-dreaming, then I focus on sim-type games: Cities: Skylines and Planet Zoo are the top ones at the moment. These are low-pressure games (I can pause or just let it run without actually being forced to do anything) but they let me dream big and indulge in my creative side. Whilst there are obviously logic / game mechanics to think about, there is a large amount of creativity possible on top of that which I really enjoy.

When im in a problem-solving mood, I play strategy games, like the Total War series or something like XCOM. Theres a goal to achieve and a number of (violent) solutions to get there, so all I need to do is solve the problems to achieve my goal. I prefer longer-term problem solving, like the long campaigns in Total War.

When I'm in an adventurous mood, I play RPGs and open-world action/adventure types. RPGs used to be the main focus, but I feel that the gameplay in modern RPGs has gotten worse whilst the focus on story has increased, so RPGs rarely provide me with what I want. Something like GTA5 or Metal Gear Solid 5 have been providing me with much better adventures and roleplaying opportunities than most RPGs.

When I'm feeling competitive and energetic, I play racing games. I usually prefer arcadey style racing but have been getting more into my sims since I bought a wheel and pedals. The intense focus required suits my energetic mood and racing wheel-to-wheel can be very exciting. Plus I enjoy motor sports in general.

When I want to relax, I play easy / boring / shallow games like Diablo 3 or Sonic. Games that are ridiculously easy and require no skill at all, just the occasional button press to trigger some flashing lights. This is a rare one for me though, if I want to relax, generally I'll watch TV or read a book, rather than play games. I prefer to play games for fun, rather than to relax (and yes, they are mutually exclusive).
Currently Playing: WAR RoR - Spitt rr7X Black Orc | Scrotling rr6X Squig Herder | Scabrous rr4X Shaman

For me, the most important and necessary aspect of a mmorpg is its immersiveness; i.e., if I play a ranger do I feel like I am a ranger doing ranger-like things? Any outside real life feelings would interfere with that.

Plus I am pretty much a one game at a time kind of guy.

You a masochist or something? Haha, when I played DD it was quite stressful especially in the later stages of the game.

Nostalgia got me during the Covid crisis... nothing better to do.

And I don't regret it a single second. 28 years after its release, still one of the best CRPGs ever made. And $6 on GoG for the complete version (Ultima 7: The Black Gate, Ultima 7: Forge of Virtue, Ultima 7 Part Two: Serpent Isle, Ultima 7 Part Two: The Silver Seed.), you can't go wrong.

So that would be my "Nostalgia" game :)

The whole ultima series needs an HD graphics update, the idea that they might need that is heresy for some I am sure. :)
