The only thing that would make a MMORPG exciting for me at this point is to make it as far removed as the current whack-a-mole design of the last 20 years.

    Kill - XP - Loot
    Quest - XP - Reward
End game - gear grind/resource grind
Some bullshit cyclical siege/PvP/node control crap where it's a never ending meaningless guild swap that becomes yet another grind

Give me a new design, a different approach - and you will have my interest.

Because I am done with the same old same old, been there, done that don't want to relieve another groundhog day mmorpg anymore

But those who are excited for this - hey go right ahead
This game, if they pull it off will be very unique. Level curve is very short, so spending many months to get to end game is not what they are shooting for. This game is mostly about Dynamic and scheduled events. Players actions will shape the world by their actions. So much so, jumping to a different saver will be like going to a new world. So starting a city on a node by a mountain and they start a crafting city. On the way there would be meany events to deal with leading to bigger events. As they dig too deep into the mountain, it would wake a Molten Lava Dragon that would crawl out of the mountain and without enough players, will destroy the city.

PvP is also kinda of unique. If you want to know more, let me know. This game will have all the regular MMO systems, crafting, dungeons and player housing. Player housing is also done in a unique way. If you read my post above, you will see what concerns I have.

    On paper - sounds interesting.

If on paper = game launch - something to look at for sure.

I used to get excited for pre-launch features - not anymore, as most times the best ones get cut.

Usually the way things go - features get cut, and cut and cut - and the launch state of the game is usually a pale shadow of what was planned.

Maybe this one is different - wait and see

But yeah - my approach now is, - ignore everything prior to launch - look at the state of game at launch.
I agree, like I said my post before this one has just 2 of my many concerns. Mark (lead developer) seems to not be able to keep a unified vision of the game. Im not sure its a good idea to have him at the helm. I dont mind backing games, I did with this one but I wish I had not. I have to many reservations about this one.

I didn't notice because I skipped that part of the video. I usually do that to all videos I watch on youtube skip a few minutes so I missed it.

Don't listen to Lazypeon. He promoted that scam kickstarter MMO Oath without researching it at all and has since deleted his video from YouTube. How many people pledged to that scam because of him and he doesn't even have the stones to keep his video up. He took it off because in the comments section there were quite a few people saying they didn't know the kickstarter was running until seeing his 100% shill promotion video for what obviously looked like a student project being pitched as a legit game being made.

If you are watching LazyPeon for guidance you're better off flipping a coin heads/yes, tails/no and getting your answers that way IMO.

Edit: Just watched the video and the fact he's pushing the pyramid scheme in the first few seconds and repeating the devs false promises verbatim should worry everyone. It literally sounds like he's reading from a piece of paper provided by the devs themselves. This video is 100% promotional content/shilling. Just listen to all the features he mentions and anyone with a brain should realize that all that stuff is just a dream.

Amazon could not even make a basic MMO after 4 years and hundreds of millions of dollars but AOC is supposed to provide the sun, moon and stars of MMO features on "40mil" that may or may not exist and only one SOE dev with any prior game development experience?

When this game doesn't end up anything more than SoTA 2.0 will LazyPeon delete this video just like he did his one on Oath? my guess is 100% yes.

Don't care about Summit at all or his buddy Dr.D.
I watched an older video to get a perspective from Jahlon "Paradox gaming" from over a year of him basically defending the game and blaming the community.

Well the things discussed in that over a year old video was cutting AOC some slack but seeing this is a LONG time past that point, the excuses no longer hold water.

I watch MANY gaming websites and reviews,it doesn't really matter to me if they are on sometimes and off others because i have more than enough gaming knowledge to understand what i am listening to and seeing with my own eyes.

Peon can be ok at times but i can tell that often he doesn't want to do the video so he skips through in a lazy fashion. The video i talked about with Jahlon kind of shows a shill sucking up to Steven because he was getting first hand communication with Steven.
I have followed It's Ziz for a long time and he was sort of in the same boat as Jahlon but he actually put out a video questioning the game and it's lack of information and content for over a year and it pissed Steven off.

I also watched a video of some writer that Steven invited to his studios for obvious reasons,to get some positive press.I tried a bit to find that video was from same time period as the Reddit problems. However the platform the writer did the video on was some obscure platform i never seen before so i can't seem to find it.

Why am i mentioning this video?Well NDA that is why. This writer had to submit his "potential"article to Steven to get accepted.Steven did not like the article because the writer was being honest "not often do we see honest writers anymore"He tried a second time and again NO from Steven so then Steven sort of hinted at what he would like to see in the video/article.Well the writer said NO right back to Steven he said that would destroy his integrity by not saying it truthfully and how he felt about the game.

Part of the issue trying to find that video again is maybe dude deleted it and/or AOC stands for some other organization so i get all kinds of weird search hits.I want to badly share that video to show all the other writers how to actually have a spine and some integrity.

Wow... some of you guys actually know the names of these streamers and what they did years ago.

The only YT content creators I care about are the ones that really know a game I play and may have useful insight about putting together a build for a class that I'm working on myself.

I don't know or follow any other streamers. Especially not the ones with amateur reviews about current or upcoming games. I can't believe some of you take these clown wannabes seriously enough to have strong feelings about them one way or the other.

Ye the game is gathering some hype atm, it seems too good to be true tbh. I really do hope they get it right, especially the combat system.

I really want this game to be good and succeed, but....

This game has a TON of red flags. Its saying all the right things, but I am seeing a lot of similarities with both No Mans Sky (which years later is now a fantastic game mind you) with its initial hype off the charts due to and Star Citizen here.

For one, unhinged design and scope creep. Its literally promising the world and more. Its every single feature every single player of a MMO could ever want...and they are talking about ALL of it as if its going to be in place for launch. The fact that this content was not bucketed, road-mapped and planned out in development stages and very carefully communicated to players to temper expectations absolutely reeks of Game Development Rookie. 250 vs. 250 PvP alone is enough to keep an entire game dev team busy to try and balance, manage perf issues, server infrastructure and optimization...just nailing this would be an achievement. This is Star Citizen level of scope of creep that is obviously being driven by an inexperienced, undisciplined, and soon to be surprised CEO.

Another thing: like sports, just because you get a team of veteran AAA developers, it takes time for people to gel and make magic. This is an incredibly ambitious first project to come out of the gate with for a team that has never built anything before. This is Interstellar travel before flying to Mars or the Moon.

Watching the full video of features and you quickly get the sense that what is being described sounds more like a mature MMO thats been live for 6+ years and and is a base game with various expansions...not something that is going to launch in anything near resembling this state.

Now I have not followed this game closely, and I am basing this entirely on the video talking about the game, so If I'm mistaken, someone please call me out. But if this is what they are saying the game will be when it launches, then yea, this seems like its going to be a mountain of disappointment.

I just posted the video because I thought this game had alot of fanboys. Maybe not as the comments have been reserved or critical. Which is a goo thing IMO.

I havent watched the 'developer' talk ones yet so not sure what was said there.

Shroud, Asmongold, and Summit (whether you like hem or Twitch or whatever) have probably 200K subs and who knows how many followers. Not to mention ther youtube channels Shroud has 6.33 MILLION followers, Summit has about 650k and Asmon has about 300K.

Like them or not they do have substantial followings and quite a few people watch their stuff. Ironically the view count for the talking to the developers of hthis game is like 27J. So maybe not much interest in it right now. But Shroud and Summit arent really MMO guys anyway so...Asmongolds developer alk video has 375K views. Probably because he knows what to ask since he plays WOW pretty exclusively.

He also knows how to smell bullshit and he wouldnt hesitate to call the developers out if they were blowing smoke. His was the oe I was most likely to watch, I just havent had time yet. He had another one he rreacted to from lazy peon a few months ago about AoC and it got 175K views.

As for Peon, he does what he does and since most of these 'ask the devloper; streams started after these guys watched what he posted its only fair to give the originator 'credit'.

The major concern I think many people have is how their 'hybrid' combat system is going to work. Having a combination of tab and action is something very tricky to pull off.
    De ja vu?

You already said that and I already said 'just like Gw2'.

Gw2 has an action combat in which skills that requires a single target will work on a tab target (of sorts) mechanic in which you set your target and it casts on it, like "Leap strike" for example.

While other skills have hitboxes and they use the hitboxes in the dynamic action combat to tell when/where it hits who and how.

I don't see how that is tricky or confusing.
So you are saying that you have as much confidence in these guys as developers as you do with the folks from Guild Wars 2? Wow. Good luck with that. ;)
The combat gameplay loop of Gw2 is great.

Idk what the hell you are talking about.

You said the concept is confusing. It is not and already exists in many games.

Single target does single target area check with hitboxes... I don't see how that is so hard to understand.
Whoa not sure why you are so aggressive about this. Weird response by you and out of character. Anyway........
I never once said it was confusing. You made that up.
My point is what other games other than Guild Wars 2 uses a hybrid tab and action combat system that you feel is well implemented. You said there are many. What are they?
I have not seen a hybrid system done well at all. Including GW2 which I am not a fan of it’s combat.
I am of the camp that you pick one or the other. Most people believe the same. We have had long discussions here on this site about it.
I stand by my opinion. Which is just my opinion. Hybrid systems are tricky to pull off and do well on a technical level.
You are free to have your opinion but so am I.
i hope whatever is bothering you gets sorted. Good vibes to you friend. ?

It sounded like you were basically saying that GW2 was shit so the combat in this game will also be bad. However, after reading this post I think you meant that GW2's developers are really amazing (one of, or the only game that has managed to brilliantly implement a kind of hybrid tab/action combat system) so it would be kind of foolish to think AoC's team will be able to make something of similar quality, is that right?

That is exactly right. Even though I don’t play GW2 anymore I recognize the talent of the development team. I am very skeptical that the Ashes team can pull off what The GW 2 folks did.  I mean does anyone remember the hybrid combat of Bless Online? Lol they created a terrible system. Should Ashes be better combat than Bless? Safe to assume so. Is it safe to assume they will create a system as good as Guild Wars 2? Not likely in my opinion. Even an in between probably won’t be good enough. It needs to be really good. Too many games have come out in the past few years with crappy combat. Like I said earlier, a good combat system can be tricky to pull off. I wish them luck.

GW2 hybrid combat system is fun, minus the lack of holy trinity (I like healers being a thing), though I did love being a tanky thief with enough sneak and mobility ability to bypass hard mobs. Bow is my all time fav game weapon and when playing bard in  a game like FFXIV sometimes I forget I can't shoot myself across a zone. I hope there is a similar class in this game.
