Especially since it hasn't come out :)

This is not even at the Star Citizen level of not having come out. I'm getting rather tired of people heaping praise on conceptual games as if they were already real.

If you're going to compare it to games that have already walked the walk - warts and all - you don't do it when they're just talking the talk.

This game is talking about doing a lot of things in complex ways (including their latest bit about a PvP bounty hunting system.) Ambition is a good thing in game design but then you have to actually do it.

Actually, since XLGames was too stupid to make a non cash shop version of ArcheAge, this could very well be the nest best thing. BDO came close, but BDO has crap for PvE content other than the life skills.

AoC will be subscription only and cosmetic cash shop. That's already a huge plus for me. Crafting will once again be interdependent. Plenty of PvP and PvE play style options. Huge world with 103 zones all fighting to remain relevant.

Based off Lazy Peon's video, I would have to say this game is definitely the next big thing. Of course, 2 years from now is a long time and stuff may get cut from production, so we'll see how that unfolds. As for the game design itself, I'd have to say it blows anything else out the water that's come out in the past 5 years.
You mix 2 things though.  You compare their game design with games that are out.  But by now we should know not to buy the hype.   Best game ever created on paper was CoE and we know how that ended.

I like the design and I think their progress has been reasonable (despite being slower than planned).  I just do not believe much that Steven says as I have seen what he tried to do to that PCGamer writer a few years ago and we all know about the MLM stuff.

I have an idea they have a lot more than SC does. And SC I guess, claims theyre in Alpha phase now. AoC isnt yet. I understand the backlash they got and loss of support when they shifted t the BR but whatever at this point.

If they hold true to their claims there will be an Alpha test phase with no NDA coming very shortly. Like I said that will be relative only if theyre arent a bunch of shills 'testing' it.

After the alpha phase(s) there will be beta 'giveaways' then beta testing (with no NDA) THAT is when you will get the most information. WHEN that is is anyones guess. But they have said forever (at least when I DID pay attention) that when the ame went into beta it meant it was basically at 'release' quality.  But (again if you believe them) beta testing isnt going to last very long.

The BR thing was only for combat testing, nothing else.
And they can say whatever they want, but while the performance was freaking terrible and the BR mechanics were just fully missing. The combat wasnt to bad for that stage of development ;D

Will AoC be the killer of all existing MMO's and will take over like Skynet? Ofcourse not.. can it still be a very enjoyable game regardless? Sure it can :P

Now.. one thing i can say is that there will be some more Alpha tests soon as i did just get an invite.
The other thing i can also tell is that they just made me sign an NDA ;D
I probably think this.. the NDA will last the next few alpha tests untill they add a good few of the lower tier backers a bit later into those tests and probably the next ones after that might get opened up to the human race :P

It all depends on how long and fast the coming alpha tests will progress. I would think we will be able to see a lot more gameplay floating around at the start of next year, but who knows... it might go alot better than expected and be lifted a good bit sooner.. or not.. will have to see :D

Don't listen to Lazypeon. He promoted that scam kickstarter MMO Oath without researching it at all and has since deleted his video from YouTube. How many people pledged to that scam because of him and he doesn't even have the stones to keep his video up. He took it off because in the comments section there were quite a few people saying they didn't know the kickstarter was running until seeing his 100% shill promotion video for what obviously looked like a student project being pitched as a legit game being made.

If you are watching LazyPeon for guidance you're better off flipping a coin heads/yes, tails/no and getting your answers that way IMO.

Edit: Just watched the video and the fact he's pushing the pyramid scheme in the first few seconds and repeating the devs false promises verbatim should worry everyone. It literally sounds like he's reading from a piece of paper provided by the devs themselves. This video is 100% promotional content/shilling. Just listen to all the features he mentions and anyone with a brain should realize that all that stuff is just a dream.

Amazon could not even make a basic MMO after 4 years and hundreds of millions of dollars but AOC is supposed to provide the sun, moon and stars of MMO features on "40mil" that may or may not exist and only one SOE dev with any prior game development experience?

When this game doesn't end up anything more than SoTA 2.0 will LazyPeon delete this video just like he did his one on Oath? my guess is 100% yes.
I always liked LazyPeon But I have to agree..... He seems as if this game and all it's feature are a WORKING MODEL.

First time I'm disappointed in him.

I finally decided to watch some of the video, say 10 minutes or so which is my maximum limit for such things.

Well produced, clearly the labor of an enthusiastic fan with few criticisms and much praise.

Starting it all off saying it wasn't sponsored then immediately posting his referral link (the ones no one can check their balances on currently) was a bit comedic of course.

The real "magic" of this game is how it will deliver all of these amazing features, more than any MMORPG in history by Lazy Peon's account on a shoestring budget, clearly elves or something are at work.

But hey, what do I know, I'm just an old armchair developer of course. (who has been damn near perfect in previously predicting the outcomes of these endeavors.)

Lazy Peon made several bold predictions, some which we will find out if they are true later this year, and even believes it will be launch ready in two years, clearly he is not lacking in faith, clearly Lord Vader would be pleased.

To be fair I think some of you are obsessing too much on how Steven made his fortune with MLM and the MLM-like cash rewards for "influencers." But the difference between what he is doing and MLM is that this does not require an initial cash outlay of thousands in hopes that you will make even more thousands... which you never do.

The MLM scam makes its money for those at the top of the pyramid by selling large quantities of overpriced shit to the enteprefools down the line.

This doesn't work like that. No extra purchases required. If you bring others in, you allegedly get a % of their spendings as a cash reward eventually.

We can question whether those rewards will in fact happen or not but at least those influencers are not out of pocket like they would be in an MLM scheme.

As to whether this leads to more streamers talking shit and turning a blind eye to the problems there is nothing really new about that with or without Steven's cash back scheme. Streamers are bought everyday with more traditional perks.

AFAIK he hasnt sold anything. He had a kickstarter. He made a BR. He had alot of cash before the kickstarter. I dont follow it enough to know if he used KS cash for the BR (which was apparently universally hated by backers, the idea of making the BR not the BR itself).

It is also a sub game as well so there has to be a limited amount of selling anyway I would imagine. Although Blizzard moved that bar.

People cant have  it all ways, they cant expect NOT to have stuff for sale or at least a sub and expect a game to be halfway decent. Money has to be generated in some form. I know people have gotten used to people sellingthings (be it P2W or borderline) Or selling things without a game at all. Or selling pictures of things or concepts of things that may or may not ever exist.

But people have also gotten overly cynical about any kickstarter that is announced, especially if it is aggressive in what it claims to be abe to deliver.

For the most part everything these guys claim has ben done before. Not very well in most cases but its not like they have to reinvent the wheel (like some people have claimed they are trying to do).

Whether guys are getting paid to hype it. Obviously. EVERY game (or not a game) does that now. ATLAS was the most obvious one. That was also a game that everyone on here was drooling over. I was on the other hand on the cynical side.  Where is it now?

No matter what they deliver or what they promise in the end its the number of players the game has that will determine how well it plays. Even trash games that didntl ast longer than the inital 30 day subs werent bad when the worlds were full (including ATLAS). But when no one was around their glaring inadequacies and bad mechanics were really exposed.

Obviously this isnt to that stage but everyone wants a game that has enough players and enough interest to hold their attention. ESO, BDO, FF and WOW, thats about it. I have never played two of those and one I havent played in months and I still consider itthe best option out there. I do own all of them however. So I am as disenfranchised from the whole MMO genre as the next guy.

There are some red flags for me that tells me this game was not going to be much better than The New Worlds game that got cancelled.

The bigger red flag is timelines,at first made absolutely no sense but then later i listened to the excuses and i guess makes some sense. There was definitely some turmoil within for that year where seemingly nothing was happening then out of nowhere "we need to test our  pvp in a BR setting".Man did that send red flags everywhere.

Ok no problem you feel the need to test your pvp/combat systems in actual game play. The problems remains that nothing else seemed to be going on during that entire time. Then i find out they didn't even have the node system done, not even close back then so how was he supposed to meet his timeline, there was no chance.

In the latest video the node system still wasn't 100% completed,so again HOW was it possible to meet a timeline of over a year gone by?IMPOSSIBLE timelines.....unless there truly was turmoil and he lost several employees or fired them so development was as it appeared, basically halted or to a crawl.

None of it really deems the game as not possibly being a quality game when released but still makes me wonder about leadership.IMO the fail is exactly like TNW's problems,TOO much focus on pvp.Pvp can kill this game so fast he will lose his hair and his shirt.

EVERY single game gets exploited upon release and perhaps gives credence as to why NOBODY should be allowed in game before it is officially released. That at least gives a game a grace period upon release where nobody is cheating..yet.

PVP=100% guaranteed to see cheats/exploits,not a dev alive today that has been able to stop cheating.

So to put so much focus on an area that will in the end be a fail is just not intelligent to me.
The reason pvp can survive in an arena shooter setting is because when players cheat with no supervision the others can just quit that server game and find a better non cheat game.Besides that arena shooters are more  akin to ESPORT which will have a LOT of eyes watching and analyzing player and cheating.
In a rpg setting it is much much easier to get away with cheating before anyone finds out.Often as long as cheating is not during a pvp encounter nobody even cares or cares to look.

So for me when i see an rpg trying to put it's focus on pvp,i am pretty much sold on not playing the game.I will LISTEN to their design approach but i have never seen ANy dev get the whole pvp package right or even come close.

Once the checks cash he will turn on Stephen and suddenly become critical.  I suspect he’s not alone.
The game and features look great. Are “we” denying that?
I think it's all a shell game and leave it at that.

    I think it’s brilliant.
In an evil genius sort of way, yes it is.

What's surprising is so many gamers continue to fall for it, hope springs eternal I guess, they just want to believe.

There IS no game yet.  By now, especially after the CoE fiasco you fell for, I would hope you would realize that. There are parts to a game and a long feature list that exists on paper.  I hope the game, when it launches, is great.  I am currently playing Return of Reckoning because I am utterly bored.  But I for one have learned that it's far easier to make game clips and videos than it is to make a successfuly launched MMORPG.  Maybe I should move to Missouri or something.

They seem to be quite a bit further a long than CoE... let’s be far.

CoE was attempting some original things, we all need that. I hoped they’d get it done.

I have not donated to either of the above games. I haven’t “fell” for any of the KS games.

You did donate to CoE though correct?  :p
