imagePhantasy Star Online 2 Finally Removing Windows Store Shackles, Coming To Steam August 5th

Much of the issues surrounding Phantasy Star Online 2 on Windows 10 has been due to the poor implementation of the Windows Store apps. Players have had to find work arounds just to get the MMO running in an acceptable manner. Thankfully, that (hopefully) will be a thing of the past as PSO2 hits Steam next week.

Microsoft Store is nice to bring mobile apps to windows 10 and that's all.

I've said this in another thread, but I'm grateful for the cross play. My real life friend is anti-Steam (yes, really) and I'm anti-Microsoft Store. I don't want to play on a platform that's even less functional than the EGS, but I still want to play with him.

Sweet! Thought it was going to take much longer to get it on a different launcher.

I literally try and not interact with it in anyway, it's like even thinking about while using your pc creates problems.

When PSO2 released on Windows Store, we could continue playing with our Xbone progress in our PC and it works both ways.

Anyone know if we can continue our PSO2 account or we have to start brand new account on Steam?

very likely new account, the old one is tied to ms store and xbox live. but you don't have to worry about ms store debacles anymore with steam

Well.. if you can find a way to install the game on Steam from a different region. Be sure to tell others because people from the EU see this nice "Game is not available in your country" and will see that even after Steam release ;D
Wondering whether changing country of the Steam account would work...

Experience one of Japan’s biggest online action RPGs, completely free-to-play and featuring cross-play and cross-progress with other available platforms."

Xbox is Microsoft so that made sense. There is a way to add your games to your Steam account however i am sure it would still require your game working properly through Windows anyhow.

Lower bottom left of Steam is an icon >>>"Add game">>"add non Steam game".

I want to have as little do with window store as possible, I'll wait for it to go on Steam.

That doesn't really "add" it to steam though. It just lets you use the steam overlay in game.

Another game to add to the growing list of region locked MMORPGS

Astelia, Phantasy Star Online 2. I remember when BDO was region locked but they lifted it in like 2018

I was interested in the game, until I saw the download size, that thing is huge (over 70GB), and would consume most of my monthly limit, so forget that.

I just tried it with a non steam game W101 and it worked as far as sending  me to the main login which requires a password.

The idea is that i often hear players complaining about loading games from several different apps instead of from one place such as Steam.

Like what exactly are people hoping for if not a launch within Steam, nobody could expect Steam to just handle your game files on their machine, they are only trying to help with the convenience of a one stop launch app.Yers i know all they are doing is pointing to your .exe launch file but you can't expect anymore than that.

SO basically it helps you remove all those icons off your window pointing to .exe launch files,no need to search for a Battlenet app or a Playonline app etc etc, always just load up Steam.

I think you misunderstood him, what he meant is, any game non-steam that you add with that method, lets say any M$ store game, it will still call the M$ store api from the system, it's simple the same thing as you putting a desktop shortcut (or start menu or task bar shortcut), you will still use the M$/XBox account in the end.

For people who had issues trying to install like me (see bellow my experience lol), that won't fix a thing.

On another note, this game gave me huge headache, it installed, patched, gave error and closed the patcher.
Tried again to open the game, file corrupted, tried to repair using the M$ store function, it moved the game folder to a hidden one instead even tho it said it was deleted, causing to make me lose 80GB of space and not allowing me to remove the said folder untill I had to take over the folder ownership and remove the whole damn thing.

A week later the fansite of the PSO community released that PSOTweaker, which allowed me to play the game after.

Hopefully, they don't do this shit again with PSO2: New Genesis and put it on both plataforms, as some people don't like Steam, or at least make a stand-alone version.

I am not sure about the Mickey$oft implemetation, but I have played PSO2 for quite some time on the JP servers now on both PC (PSOtweaker) and PS4 (JP disk import). I started playing on PC and I was able to link my PS4 account to the SEGA account to allow me to play from both platforms (and gain PS4+ goodies).

people aren't giving the ms store this much flak for fun. it's a nightmare to work with and if you haven't already heard the stories, it would be best to ignore the ms store and play through the pso2 tweaker if you're so eager
