I am!  Its free!  Now I just need time to play it...

Free usually comes with hidden cost later

The first mistake is to think that these guys have your best interest in mind and that they are "good guys" for giving stuff away.

    Beware of the strings attached.

Game companies are not your friend, never forget that
point me to one "string" (hidden later cost) in this case. . .just one.

When you DL LoL now all your info is sent to the land in the east that strangely invests billions in game companies even though they limit/block their own people's play hours per day.

Definitely not saying they are gathering people's information through game companies they have stakes in or anything though...

I thought it was a response to Epic being kicked of Apple and Goggle? A big PR push showing how much they give away while the man keeps them down? Or at least that's what they want you to believe. :)

It's not a response to the Epic/Apple case.
The free Troy has been planned for months.
I have known since June 2nd from the newsletter from Creative Assembly, that we would be able to get a free copy of Troy.

Finally someone who pays attention rather than just being some random Epic hater. This is also not the first game given away for free by Creative.

What people should be more worried about is after 17 years what has Steam done for you as a customer, what has Steam done for developers?

I do not come on here randomly to post nor do I "hate" Epic. That's why I accepted what Liljna said without even bothering to check it.

Steam has a great platform for working out what games I want to buy, Epic does not. You ask what has Steam done for us as customers, well that's all it needs to do, be a good platform. It is Epic that has to live up to that standard, you seem to think the only important thing about a sales platform is that it gives away games, it is not.

As to what Steam has done for developers, I think their take it too high. But I would point out that since Steam launched countless developers have borne that cost and thrived. So I think you are over rating Epic and long term I doubt it will change from the functionally lacking, very glossy format it has.

To all the people with epic software problems, you do not need to install or have any epic software on your PC in order to claim a free game, you do not even have to be using a PC, a smartphone is enough.

Every game can be claimed online in a browser on the epic store website.

You can take your sweet time solving problems later to actually play the games.

Epic Games are very progressive in this regard and have the most mainstream optimized system for claiming Free Stuff.

So in the future, don't let pesky apps stop you :)

7.5 million people did not download Troy for themselves. 7.5 million people added it to their library for a Fortnite account hacker to enjoy later, because Epic hired the Jurassic Park security team for their platform. They spared no expense.

Well, both Steam and Epic are "evil" corporations.

One of them gives me free shit.

Honestly, I would love to buy something from Epic for the games they've given me (out of maybe 100 games I legitimately love about 5 or so) but tbh they dont have anything I would really want to buy- Even the free games I enjoy are not games I would have purchased.

I still do not understand the hate for epic- Dont care either... This is another game theyve given me they may (or may not) be great- I've spent thousands upon thousands of dollars at Steam and all i've gotten was some stupid 'trading cards.'-

Steam uses their 30 percent commission to make good discounts on games.

Epic can't match that because their commission is way lower than Steam so they don't have enough leeway to offer better discounts.

88 percent of Epic sales goes to the publisher, and very little goes to customers in terms of savings.

I don't know why people believe EGS is a good thing frankly.

    Competition?
Sure, but where is the advantage of having such competition if Epic cannot match Steam discounts?
I rather not have such pointless competition, to be honest.

Indie developers benefit right, those that don't use publishers ?

I have panned Epic on this thread, but I would not cut of my nose to spite my face.

Epic is clearly just trying to get people to amass a library of games for free so they stay in the ecosystem and buy games in the Epic store later.  This is the long game.  Can't really hate on their strategy because I get free stuff!  I didn't buy into the Steam ecosystem, with the exception of exclusives, until I started getting a ton of free Humble Bundle keys.

I DO despise the fact that the store's UI turns into nonsense at 4k resolution and it's a hassle to navigate the menus.

I did download it and will undoubtable play it, but as to when it could be a years time looking at my list of games to play.

I rarely find anything free on Epic worth more than a check on Metacritic for its score, they may have been better when they launched but I doubt they will tempt me with another title as good as this in 2020. There website is still not a patch on Steam for giving you information about the games they are selling and has no reviews.

Nah, this was announced that they would be giving away Troy months ago.

Also bit of a sidenote to an earlier poster, they are competing with Steam at this point. Obviously they have a small part of the market right now, but considering the store has really only been pushed for a year or so....15% of the market is pretty crazy. (As of June 1st)
