I don't want any of this

I want Everquest 1...... I don't want a Spiritual Successor.

This video turned me off, it's nothing I want in a game.  Wasn't expecting this crap, after years of investing my time wanting this game.  All of a sudden I recently found out it was this... Never saw it coming !

Well, you don't have to do the perception system !.... Yes you do, it's the main feature.... riddles.... I'm too old, I want a game not puzzles.

THIS TURNS ME OFF.... And I'm sure many feel the same way.

You can always find a guide online to help with riddles. The idea of a spiritual successor has always been flaky, it is used to garner some of the glory from a previous game, book, film etc. But such successors rarely have anything more than a passing resemblance to what is meant to have been their inspiration. For me if there are sufficient elements of old school that's good enough.

If you want Everquest 1, then why don't you play Everquest 1?? It may be shocking to learn, but the game is still around! :flushed:

I haven’t checked upon Pantheon for ages so decided to watch the video you linked. I think it looks f-ing awesome and will follow the game more closely from now on, color me interested.

'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

You know whats awesome about MMOs. You can pick and choose what content you like or dont like. For instance, I played ESO for about a year and I am not a huge fan of raiding. Loved it at one point but for me its gotten old. That whole year I never raided once. I have the CP level to get into any raiding guild, I had the gear for it but instead I did the things I enjoyed. Food for thought.

Yep, nothing "intelligent" about their system. It reminds me of the same problem when they changed adventure games to "hunt and peck" fests with the mouse over text entry of old. Yes, text entry had its own issues (mostly just grammar/spelling problems), but at least it required the player to think about what they entered and not dumbly click over the entire screen. With this system, it is just a variation of that, but you run around dumbly looking for pop ups.

I tried to warn them of this before, but many seemed to be dazzled by this mundane system. It is like their quest system, nothing but a click fest. This game's sub systems have far more in common with modern games than they do the early ones.

I think you're focusing on the wrong videos.

If the perception mechanic doesn't interest you, then a dedicated video about that feature is bound to turn you off.

Why not watch this video from December which shows slow paced combat, similar to EQ1.

Using that logic, why bother making any new game at all if you liked the game you were playing previously? For that matter, why read a book with similar styles? I mean, you can just re-read the one you liked right?

Some people would like a "new" game, with a "new" story, new worlds, content, and features, yet... still holding to a similar template of play and style. This is how you ended up with numerous games that copied an original design, but were able to take that games style and continue it into new ways.

Or were you actually trying to be honest in your response and not simply flippantly telling anyone who wants a similar style to EQ1 to F-off?

The point is not that new games should not be made but when you systematically break down a game and hate each of every component of that game. Then compare it to another game, in Delete's case, saying EQ1 didnt do it this way, EQ1 is a better game. Maybe you are not looking for a new experience. Maybe you have walked away from a game you didnt know you loved more than any other game.

    I was being honest.

Using your example, wouldn't reading a new book with similar style be considered a spiritual successor? He specifically said he didn't want a spiritual successor (in bold), so what is there even left... an EQ1 remake? Visionary Realms doesn't own the IP to EQ1.

And I don't see DBG remaking EQ1 anytime soon, so your only option is to play the original EQ1 (or the indie classic server thing).

It worked well enough up to the level it stopped at, just like their Crafting system. We get so few new ideas in MMOs that I think we should forget none of them. Fair enough as you say it had problems, but we need radical ideas like that to revitalise what is one of the most by-the-book genres.

I think MMOs have taken off in a direction where people zip from quest marker to quest marker. Doing dungeons are about how fast can you get the run done. To RP dismay we are stuck on this loop where we dont get to stop and look around or experience story any more. In ESO they so many awesome dungeons that have awesome stories. I never got to experience any of the stories. I had to goto youtube to watch them.

For me, people who love RP and to explore will love this system. Im one of the people who love this crap. I came from PnP games to EQ1 to RP in a world I could visually see. I was in awe the whole time. Im ready for this slower game and how players will interact with the world and each other.

We have already pointed out that this game isn't for you and Everquest wasn't for you either since P99 had UI you had difficulty with. Personally that was a lame ass excuse that was completely manufactured because you found that the game itself wasn't for you.

Then you fixated on Pantheon thinking it would be a modern version of Everquest that you fantasized playing except you don't like close to anything about it. So then you took up a pitchfork and decided to rail against every aspect of Pantheon every few days or so redoing your thread titles but basically addressing nothing new that you haven't complained about in the past. Posters here seem to be dreadfully bored enough to respond to your threads so that is good since it gives the game more time on these forums.

I understand that you have time on your hands and you need to vent but perhaps this isn't very healthy for you considering what you're going through. It may even be a symptom of what you're currently dealing with. Personally may be you should find something else to occupy your remaining time and focus on the family and friends. All this stress must be wearing you out.

Any way I wish you the very best as far as your health is concerned and hopefully you beat it.

I'll comment on the Storyline Mechanics video here, and leave the OP's rant/post/comment/diatribe for others to analyze or comment on.

The Story mechanics doesn't really seem like a mechanic.  To me, it's a pre-planned and scripted dialog the occurs along the way.  In this instance, it isn't anything other than an unnamed quest with several outcomes -- spot none, spot some or spot all the objectives.  It is static.  It seems less like a 'mechanic' than a disciplined approach to writing; it's an action of the developers, and something the player only witnesses.

This particular example seems particularly linear, too.  The actions and responses seem intent to improve the player's standing to the sprigans.  There wasn't an option to enrage the sprigans, for instance, by chopping the young tree, burning the roots or tearing the moss off the tree.  There's only 'Good' actions permitted.  Where's the opportunity to 'role play'?

The example of the bridge and things to spot in the world is highly scripted with a very limited array of outcomes.  I wouldn't call this a mechanic as everything is laid out for the player, play the 'where's Waldo' game in the forest and win positive 'faction' with the sprigans.  Miss one of the items, and you don't.  This kind of story doesn't appeal to me, as it will be highly prone to spoiler sites.  It seems more a cheaper version of an animated cut-scene than a system the player shapes.

I did like the sprigans blending into the environment, making them difficult to see.  Static NPCs, however, are also prone to the spoiler sites.  Using this 'natural hiding' could be very interesting, if the mob attacked the character (or party) without being noticed.  It could help dictate how creatures operate and hunt, something that I've felt is lacking in MMORPGs for a long time.

Expectations are a placeholder for reality.

Pantheon will be its own game. Just like any creative art form, inspiration will be taken from many. The best part of the perception system is that being a Keeper is completely optional. I'm looking forward to not focusing on any particular objectives or quests. On day one I will log in and just walk.

We already had a long discussion about the Perception System in another thread where I posted info for those interested.

Is everyone talking about the Perception system?

Joppa's idea and i don't care for it either.I don't want to rehash why i don't like it,i already stated my point in prior threads.

However i do NOT want EQ1,that would be like taking a step backwards after playing FFXi.

NOTHING from EQ1 is good anymore,FFXI surpassed every single one of it's systems and added a LOT more to the genre,so yeah EQ1 is ancient history.I don't even want FFXi anymore that stuff is 2002,17 years ago.

I want a survival game meets mmo meets rpg meets minecraft.OR...FFXi+Minecraft+Atlas+ various mmo and rpg elements like events, content, realistic npc's,truly epic type quests,LONGEVITY >>>without any instance end game raid crap.

It is "a game mechanic." It's just very straight forward.

Just like clicking on an npc with a "!" is also a game mechanic.
