I have to see that miracle MMO that is developed for 25k
Damn, even Kickstarter scammers are getting more modest lately
Again it's not developed for 25k. However, that 25k must get it from Alpha to launch. I wish Kickstarted projects would actually outline how the money is used.
x dollars tools/software licenses x dollars for developer expenses (or salary) x dollars for utilities/office rent
That's how I'd do it.

That's a very good point. Someone sees 25k (or whatever amount) they will immediatly think that's what the studio is asking to make the game. As opposed to "we have some licences for software used to complete the game and we need kickstarter funds to help with that.
Oh and lunches.

Lunches? Or one really good lunch? I know which one I'd prefer.
With all the crowdfunding types falling over themselves for 'transparency', why doesn't the funding have specific goals? It would help track 'what they are doing' and 'how much does it cost'. Those are about the 2 most important questions for transparency behind 'when is it going to be finished'.
When has any 'stretch goal' represented a realistic estimation of work required and cost? All I can make out is a 'stretch goal' is simply a marketing tool to drive more revenue.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

oh good lunch .... Which, I had today at Cafe Luna in Cambridge MA. So good!
I'll just include a link should anyone be in the area.
My opinion is that all crowdfunding should have specific goals, why and what it takes to achieve the goals, a list of issues that could crop up that would cause setbacks.
Now, to be fair, it's very difficult to hit a bullet with a bullet and knowing exactly how long it takes to create certain game "bits" might be more evasive to teams that don't have a lot of experience.
Still, a list of why they need x dollars would go a long way. Again, it's how I would do it.

25k to make an mmo ... is this called a triple F game?
It's a triple L game if you ask me. I've played it on Steam - I went on their Discord and requested a key. That was in June-July 2020.
The game is like 10% finished.
The UI is barely there.
The combat is barely there.
The NPCs or locations are barely there.
I don't know who donated money to that kickstarter, but it must be some idiots who haven't even played the game.
I played the game for like 20 minutes and couldn't stand subjecting myself to it any longer.
Honestly I think it's family.
Given what I've seen of kickstarters, there is no way they would have made that amount.
OR ... maybe they had their own money and if they didn't get their kickstarted amount they would "kick" in their money so they could take advantage of the other donations.
That's a bit tin foil hat but it's not beyond the pale.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
How are people still funding kickstarters when we've been shown every mmorpg one has been a scam(except for maybe albion because it looks to be the least effort in making).
"...$25,364 raised...." You're kidding me right....? So many things, all having to do with stupidity, are going through my mind right now and I do not know how to proper express the level of scam this is....because unless that 'mmorpg' is gonna be a virtual board game, that aint enough for anything....hell its not even enough to pay people to develop ideas for a mmorpg let alone actually make one.
Since they already have a game made. They are looking to finish it. Now, is that enough? heck, who knows. But let's not go into the whole "that's not enough to make an mmorpg"(as it wouldn't be) As they are just bringing it across the finish line.
Which IS the way an mmorpg should be kickstarted. Not "we need money to make one" but "we have one and just need more to finish."
Except that...is not what is going on here.

Something tells me a $25,000 goal for an MMO is probably not something you should invest in, which is surprising since they reached the goal. Anyone remember how much Greed Monger was asking for?
EDIT: Looked it up and Greed Monger acquired $90,000 of a $30,000 goal, lol. Oh and surprisingly enough, it was actually #1 on this site for most anticipated MMO.
And this is their first and only released game...
All it takes is a good pitch and a couple of doctored screen shots and people go nuts. It still works, it seems.
Color me sceptic with how this went down. They had 16 backers for half of the campaign and not even 3000 raised. Then all of a sudden that backer number increased seven times (106 backers in the end) and total funding increased roughly times nine, 25.364. Average spent is 239 dollars, perhaps they mobilized friends and family in the end. I do lots on Kickstarter and have never seen this happen.
/Cheers, Lahnmir
I am not sure how much of a cut kickstarter takes, but a possible explanation is the devs contributing to their own kickstarter to try to generate enthusiasm and entice others to donate.
25K feels really light for a MMO, but, if they used the KS to drum up business, get some buzz going, and sell accounts to a game that is already made, as a kind of free advert space for Early Access, that's kinda brilliant.
Get people to check it out, get some talks going, and if they have the game made, don't need the money, it's just a little Pre-sale, which IMHO, is a great use for KS for an MMO, just another sales venture.
Egotism is the anesthetic that dullens the pain of stupidity, this is why when I try to beat my head against the stupidity of other people, I only hurt myself.

Hey I'm one of the developers of Past Fate (I can confirm on Discord if needed). I see that a lot of people are wondering about the $25k goal so I wanted to clarify few things.
Like it was stated on the Kickstarter page and I've mentioned about it on Discord few times. The $25 000 will fully go towards improving the atmosphere of the game. This includes music and more custom models as we're still using placeholder models on most things.
None of the developers are getting paid making this game as this is our passion project. Instead we are funneling our own money towards the game (we all have our second jobs). Also the game is basically in 24/7 development as I live in New York and our other developer lives in Europe so when one sleeps or works the other is making the game.
What comes to the huge amount of backers mentioned above, we have not asked any friends or family to back the game. All we did was basically buy few Facebook ads, posting on twitter daily and posting on our Discord while reminding that if the players enjoyed the alpha they can get the full game by backing the game which will also cover all closed testing periods. I'd say we had a steady pace of 5+ backers / day every day up until the last day when we had HUGE amount of backers all of a sudden.
We're also using Unreal Engine 4 and will be using SpatialOS.
I'm more than happy to answer more questions. Discord is probably the best place to get in contact with any of the developers and we are quite open about pretty much everything!

25k seems a very paltry sum for an MMORPG.
The low goal is acknowledged and explained on the Kickstarter page. But I know, it's crazy to expect someone to look into the facts before commenting.
(It's still going to suck, for sure, but not because of the low KS goal.)
HAHAHA...No, wait wait......HAHAHA....Wait, sorry......HAHAHA.......Lemme catch my breath a second.
...............
So, another KickStarter?
...............
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
