It's a good price point for Sony, the digital version I mean, I think that the PS5 being less powerful than the Xbox Series X that the $499 model is a bit too high but the digital version is priced right. It is in between the X and the S in power and priced that way. I think the Xbox Series S is the real winner. Priced at $300 for what it offers power-wise is a steal. It is not 'crippled' compared to the X it is aimed at those not needing everything at 4k. Not every consumer cares for nor has 4k displays yet. The series S runs at 1440. The X at 4k. Sony will fluctuate between the two depending on the game. What is more interesting though with 'digital editions' of consoles is the games purchased on them, generally, can be bought from the console makers store only. Unlike a disc which can be bought from different retailers at different prices. I still have Gamers Club from Best Buy until May 2022 so I pay in the $40 range for brand new releases. Going all digital with consoles do not afford that option. So pricing a digital only console lower is smart because they actually can make the difference up quick. I know personally I am not ready to go all digital with consoles yet.
We can go back and forth over me using the term "crippled" to refer to Xbox S compared to the X and about whether some people are happy with 1080p and don't "need" the 4K (ignoring the fact that the machine with more horsepower will perform better at 1080p as well) but there is no denying that the S is clearly a much lesser version of the X. It's not just clocked lower than the X, it also has 512 GB storage vs the X's 1TB, 10 GB of ram vs, 16 on the X and different graphics with less than half the Tflops.
Even from a manufacturing perspective Sony's approach makes more sense since they only have to deal with one universal set of parts in both of their models.
The S's bargain price is a fake bargain for anyone who cares about performance as most of us here do. It's clearly aimed at people who don't know a Tflop from a hole in the ground.
From a gamer's perspective it's also unfortunate that the Xbox S exists at all since that's the lowest common denominator now with the new generation of rigs that developers will have to consider when they make decisions about what features to include in new games,

What have you been smoking lately ?!
PS5 is between X and S series in power?! PS5 and X are almost identically. The GPU, RAM and Bandwidth of the two are almost double vs the S series.
So literally, for $100 in plus, you get A LOT more power if you compare PS5 Digital Edition vs Xbox S series.
I..get it. You a Xbox fan, but .. at least try and make decent comparation.
I am a fan of all three consoles to be honest.
It is common knowledge that the series X is more powerful but the PS5 is slightly faster in certain ways.
This is known my friend.
So, they are almost identically, as I said right? Then how you end up saying PS5 is in between X and S? Is not. PS5 and X are on the same line.
And no, you are not a fan of all 3. Is OK to say you are a fan of Xbox while you can wait for PS5 to drop $200 in price. We all have different tastes. A fan will buy it no matter what.

Exactly this. Is a much more work for developers also. They need to optimize their games for X AND S.
So not only PS5 is a clear winner in this case, but we will see PS5 exclusive titles ( for a limited time ) a lot more, because i'm sure Microsoft will not allow a release for X, then wait until dev's optimize it for S. So in this case, it will take more time for a game to release for X and S, or dev's needs to hire extra staff in order to have a..simultaneous release on Xbox's both consoles.
Microsoft has change the "rule" here, and not for the better.
I am sure many Xbox fans will not know the difference and will go for the S version because...cheaper.

All I can say is as someone who has been working on a title for over a year on the two it is not the same as an Xbox One versus an Xbox One X the Series S limitations don’t not show as much as you think it will on development of a title.
You will see.
Well I expect MS wouldn't like it if Hellblade 2 looks worse on the S than it does on the X

His main points being that it prevents you from buying used games or retailer sales of physical copies and also locks you into the prices of Sony's store. That needs to be taken into account when deciding to save $200 on the hardware.

Lol who cares pc hasn't had a physical game thing for so many years I can't even remeber any more. I remeber one time looking through game stop used pc bin and copying the cd keys down hahahah. Who wants to buy used games anyways, who knows what people do with it, and game stop def doesn't clean anything.
The only difference if they have thr same hardware is if you want to play blu rays for movies or not.
Um you aren't locked into one storefront on PC. And even with Steam I can get those keys all over the place and use a site like isthereanydeal.com to find the current and all time best deals.
If I had the money to buy a console it would be the PS5 and it would be the one with a disk. You can definitely save a lot more than that $200 over the life of the console by expanding into a ton more retailers, ebay ...
I know I'm getting a PC Demons' Souls, what about PC BloodBorne, any news on that?
A little birdy says that the PC port for Bloodborne has been in development for a few months and will be announced early next year for an early spring release. It is being ported by another team
Also, it'd seem we ARE NOT getting PC Demon's Souls. Oh...damn!
Here's to hoping that I will get either Nioh 2 or BloodBorne on PC soon, ideally next year.
And I'll be getting mine Black Friday 2021. Probably for cheaper, with a bigger starting library, and without any potential early-adopter manufacturing defects.
Really looking forward to it. They've got one Hell of an announced lineup already.
So you will wait one year so you can spare what, 60$? lol good luck wish I had your discipline.

I'll have to whack that little bird. It just makes you uncontent in the long run.
Nah, for real. I fully expect either of those(BB / DeS) to break the exclusivity, sooner than later. It's just...look, I like FROM and their games, but this mercenary attitude is just...unbecoming of legends of their stature. They don't need Sony, their products are going to sell like wild this or that way.

Don't forget the PC would also need a good port, don't count that birdies eggs until they are hatched.
Instead of wasting $500 on a PS5, i'd say wait for a 3080ti graphics card, and build a new PC that can do PC gaming as at least you never have to worry about not being able to play a game.
true, let me upgrade my PC instead and not worry about missing another game again... Oh wait... except all the PS exclusives. That's why I have both PS and PC, both have enough exclusives that i want to keep me entertained for a lifetime (Nintendo too). One can't replace the other if it's missing those games. Also, your comment makes it sound like your are building that PC with $500... not happening.
Not going to buy this console gen early for the first time in my adult life, but once other people test out the thermals on these machines for me, I'll definitely grab one before they phase out PS4. I love the Xbox series X strategy, but games pass is already turning into a frog in a pot on PC($1 to $5 to $10 in three months?) and the Microsoft exclusives aren't really my thing. I still think that the value is off the charts if you like Xbox games, though.
This is also the first gen that I've actually committed to digital games and have a massive PS4 library that I'll want to continue to have access to and, despite the fact that it's well maintained, I don't imagine my PS4 lasting another 10 years without dying. Sony dragged me into one of those damn "ecosystems" and I didn't even notice...

I think the value lies also in the other games offered on Gamepass though. I mean I am playing Company of Heroes 2, Disgaea 4 Complete+ and Crusader Kings 3 through Gamepass right now.
Sony has totalled crushed MS with the new consoles and in terms of content. The only ray of hope for MS seems to be services like game pass.

1. MS is going for Game Pass, not the console market, their new console is simply a means to an end to also be a player on that market. 2. MS doesn’t need to win the console wars, they are on every device available with their pass, reaching numbers PS never can. 3. They are not dependant on games designed for their console at all, they can include any non exclusive game into their library. 4. They can include every game from every xbox, saving a few with licensing issues or where code has been lost. This is especially important since PS has just confirmed that the PS5 will not be able to play PS1/2/3 games. Something I am extremely disappointed with.
PS is killing it, so is MS but with a completely different focus and market in mind. And truth be told, I think the MS method is much more future proof, agile and cheaper in the long run. I ain’t getting a new xbox but I am also not the intended audience. PS5 will come second half next year earliest.
