I never thought I'd see the day. The launch of Star Citi.... Oh, I see what they did there!
Reminds me of my old X-Wing vs Tie days . . .
yup. I'm old now.
I just can't see how anyone could enjoy this,it's like Asteroids with a camera hud view and the target is often just a puny spec on the screen.
The Asteroids all look pretty much the same, one texture like i said real lazy effort here.
IDK how long it took them to design the combat ideas but the map and Asteroids no more than a week or two.Someone might say well that is the purpose of this to just pvp in space, like I said sounds super boring,oh but you can hide behind an Asteroid as your ONLY choice for cover....umm nope people all around you so might as well be fighting in a square box.
Ship movement looks quite fake because you have imo too much control of your ship, looks like it steers like a shopping cart only better.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Typical of EvE?? ok, ill ignore that one, because wtf?
also you say its like asteroids with cheap pew pew and nothing else..
well the people playing and rewieving this game all talk about how you can manage both power, shields, throttle, everything down to a single tic.
Everything you see in the ships UI is a thing, it works, its a stat for something, or mini maps and radars, and they all change realtime.
I do not see in any form or way, how you can make such an uneducated statement, and then throw in random stuff about EvE and lasers. and an asteroid game, and then exspect to
be taken seriously? if you want to make such a rant, atleast watch a few vids with ppl explaining the game.
but yeah, its just like Asteroids http://www.classicgaming.cc/classics/asteroids/images/asteroids-arcade-screenshot.jpg
or a vid of Asteroids if you prefer
Also this new star wars game is launching at half the price of normal AAA games, because its "only" a Star wars 5v5 PvP game about ...dogfigthing and pewpew.
I've never been sure if it's because the people who make the games don't understand or if they think the players wouldn't understand if they did it correctly. Oh well.
It's a definite purchase for me as a VR player.
Boy you just have no idea what you're talking about. For anyone who played the old X-Wing Tie Fighter games this is a real blast from the past. But then again why would I be surprised? I've never seen you post anything at all positive in these forums. Why would you change now?
These ships are futuristic. Im sure they have advanced capabilities unknown to man. Please dont try and tell me hyperspace isnt realistic either :-(
They do fudge it a bit to make the ships even more maneuverable than they should be but a giant step in the right direction for more credible space flight in a fiction setting.

It doesn't matter that in reality space battles would likely be either super-long range exchange or fire, or an engagement where at least one side would spent hours accelerating for high-speed bypass, when aircraft -like dogfights make for much more fun game.

You're absolutely right that if there were space battles in reality it would almost certainly happen at extremely long range. Probably from light minutes or at least seconds apart. That is, the distance it takes light to travel in a minute or seconds. You wouldn't be firing directly at an enemy because they wouldn't even be in that spot anymore by the time you see them there. It be more about shooting at the spot were you think they will be by the time your laser (or whatever) reaches them based on their trajectory and speed. Given their speed and trajectory and what you know about their thrust capabilities you would most usually have a cone of space wherein they might occupy any point in that cone when your shot gets there. So you would basically just be trying to outguess their evasive moves and firing blind into that cone of possibilities.
But...whatever. I get that these are games and need to be fun. But they could at least make the ships fly like they are in space; requiring thrust for any type of course change and also not requiring constant thrust to maintain forward momentum.
Iselin mentioned The Expanse getting it more correct than usual. I haven't seen that, maybe I should check it out.
As mentioned, The Expanse did a good job.
Even though it's a very old show, Babylon 5 did an even better job. Thrusters were used to accelerate, pivot and turn but the ships mostly drifted using momentum.
Easier to get: Vendetta Online (now F2p) is an MMO that gives you the option of Newtonian physics or fly via the arcade method.
SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter
Great story arc while it was on TV. Little strange from time to time and hard to figure out, but it all came together in the end.

It's the main reason I subbed to Prime lol.
