Best PvP and Dev story engagement of any MMO ever.
True, there was literally no end game PvE...but that's how good the PvP was. It survived, as a sub required MMO, for over 4 years on literally nothing but the constant war between Zion, Machines, and Merv...non stop PvP.
I have to go with UO. Skill system could have used a slightly higher cap and nix the 2nd person camera view. BTW UO2 sucked in the attempt at the latter. AO is an interesting concept here, as well.
Unfortunately, polls can be biased. Sometimes unintentionally so. Polls, especially of this nature could leave out a lot of MMO's based upon the person's knowledge or even preferences.
I was going to say this too! Star War Galaxies BEFORE the Combat Upgrade and before NGE. Just upgrade the graphics and drop in a bit more content. Perfect.
Would definitely like to see EQ2 remastered to fit wide screen properly etc with a new UI, taken off f2p to remove the constant clutter of Neverwinter theme blast of advertising
Put back the challenge in the game from release before it was dumbed down and WoWinized

-But then no one will play it /sigh , so just remaster Vanguard

There are alot more mentioned here than I would have thought of for sure.
The Secret World.
the best experience ive had in any MMO was with OG TSW, best community, horror/scifi, great atmosphere, best questing, deep lore & narratives, tough dungeons. i still have so many fond memories. but the combat... id still be playing if not for the combat & a few other systems. give me something more fluid and action based like a hybrid shooter/melee with magic skills dropped into everything they got right and you got my perfect game.
So many good choices, as said by many. AC, EQ, EQ2, LotRO, SWToR (dump Hero Engine), SWG, UO, Runescape (with modern mmo 1st/3rd person controls), etc.
MMOs should be designed to evolve over time. Create the core world and lore and logic and systems.. then gradually grow your world and maps and content. From 8-bit Minecraft style to SW Squadrons photo-realism, the core game is what makes fun, not the engine or graphics. Make a fun game first.. make it AAA later. My 2 cents.
P.S. Still hoping for a Dragon Realms MUD to MMO makeover some day...

Well said, agree with a whole heart. TSW really was awesome.
A shame it's dead now, and guess what: do you know why Funcom in its lunacy killed it?

That's why. For people like you.
Which makes me wonder, you should be playing and enjoying Legends now.
What's happened, new combat wasn't "fluid and action based" enough?
(TSW's fate is a good example against the thread idea's "remake/remaster". Be careful what you wish for, you might get something much worse at the end.)

You can see my sci-fi/WW2 book recommendations.
