I wonder what impact, if any, this will have on our community? Will there still be forums?
I can't see why not, they have forums, though I only spotted one for LoL. But If this were a serious issue I think we would have to consider where we migrate to.
Dang! I wanted to learn what kind of alien I was to become!

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR
This week has been an absolute blur, but as you can see the site was acquired this past week.
As far as changes, the site will be running as normal - there is no plan to do away with the forums, the community or the content our team creates for the site - these were apparently major factors when MOBA Network acquired the site.
Because it's a publicly owned company that acquired MMORPG, we (as in the editorial and community teams) didn't even know until right when it happened. Though that's not because of anything nefarious, but just how these business deals work sometimes.
Apologies if we've on the editorial team have been silent about this - I've been handling the stuff behind the scenes so we can still operate MMORPG and grow it for the future.
Thanks for all your passion and loyalty to the community you built. We, quite literally, wouldn't be here without you all.
Cheers!
Oh! And expect Player's Choice Awards voting to start on Monday!
To be honest the past couple months the editorials have been better here; probably 2019 and first half of 2020, it felt like scant to nothing. Hopefully it continues to pick up. Forum wise, sometimes history repeats itself and some communities just get smaller and smaller and us older forum folks continue to live in our nostalgia, however mmorpg.com is unique since it can continue to have a broad appeal in the genre not necessarily focusing on one game.

Agree, some good stuff is being written, stuff that makes people talk.
Also, Suzie!

Sadly just like gaming,it is all about business and profits and less about gaming. This purchase was obviously just a way to further profit and another marketing angle towards the moba business.
They didn't buy this site because they were thinking...oh man I love mmorpg's,let's buy that site and make mmorpg news great again, nope not the reason.
I guess I have just been spoiled by my past venturing through the gaming realms. So when I started online gaming I began at a few popular places,Gamespy/Fileplanet/Specific Unreal websites like PlanetUnreal...PlanetQuake,Heat.net..and Allkhazam which offered us the best information and discussions for FFXI and EQ.
What we were given with HEat.net is something we will ever see again from ANY website. The same goes for the other sites I went to.In Heat.net we could run our own game servers and receive prizes every hour/day just for participating at that site.Fileplanet had ALL of our downloaded files to pretty much every popular game.
My point being that I will never see a great website ever again as even the giant IGN is just the same ordeal which is a bunch of avenues to revenue.Maybe others cannot "see it" or "get it" but I can instantly spot when someone or some entity is SERIOUS about that game it talks about or is associated with and which are just using games and viewers for revenue.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I'm surely not against people for making money on for their work. I just don't like (read that as detest!) in-game stuff being sold off instead of played for.
But that would be on the game companies, not this site, if it does happen. Said game's won't see my money or support.
I am sure that the new owners are aware that they need a quality product, just like any product, service or otherwise. So lets not be too glum about it all, and be on the ready for "feedback" should they waver.
I wouldn't mind if this forum format went away and the site adopted something akin to what Massively or GameSpace uses. It keeps conversations focused on a specific topic.
Personally I loathe MOP&s format, people don't "converse", rather they just spew whatever they feel and move on.
No debates, no back an forth, most conversations die in less than a day, unless MJ decides to chime in.

I prefer MOP for their story presentation / format (as well as increased news and generally good writing, even if they insist on calling everything an mmo). Stories are easy to find, adverts don't get in the way and everything is easy to read.
But, this site always wins for actual conversations. This is a forum, not a comments section. It's very purpose is for having discussions, as opposed to the drive-by nature of comments sections. Not that that prevents me from leaving comments on MOP, I do, but this is where I "hang out".

Most of their daily news is kind of dry, so apart from reading the headlines there's not much else there. Sometimes Justin has some alright tidbits to throw into the news to make it somewhat appealing, but for the most part the majority of the articles read like the meal equivalent of an unsalted pretzel.
They do have a much faster news cycle in most cases though.

Reddit has a huge fanboy slant in every game forum. Say anything critical - even with supporting data - and you will get jumped by the whole pack.
When people say - reddit is an echo chamber - they aren't lying.
Moderation is brutal too. I got a first time ban on the Pantheon forums for 90 days for unspecified Rule One violations.
From the list the only applicable one was "being an asshole.". Maybe so, but my "crime" was asking two posters to link their claims....
