I have been playing on the Private Server Turtle Wow and having a blast. It is Vanilla with a option to do a hardcore mode that gives you 50% xp and lose 5% xp when you die. It really slows things down which I like. So I wont be going to TBC, enjoying myself too much

Does this mean that they'll have Burning Crusade servers in addition to Vanilla?  Or does it mean that they're adding Burning Crusade to all Classic servers and effectively getting rid of Vanilla?

My understanding is existing servers progress to TBC with new servers capped at Classic for those that want that.

All current classic servers will transition to TBC. They will have new classic era servers that players can choose to copy their character over to if they want to stay in classic.

There will also be an option to have your character on TBC and classic servers, but it will cost money.

So I just saw that they are selling boosts to lvl 58.  Give me a break.  I'll play if they make a fresh TBC server with no boosts.

At this point Activision B. are in a rut they can't get out of. All the new games they produce are mediocre garbage and all they can do is re-release old game, because they are well aware their new games are trash.

Turtle WoW is nice, although they could use a bigger population. AFAIK they average between 180 and 280 players. They added new custom content like playable Goblins and High Elves, which is nice. I'd advice anyone who wants a PvE Vanilla experience to play there, I personally have had enough of WoW for one lifetime, but if I could selectively erase all my MMORPG memories and start over, I'd play on Turtle WoW too.

Private servers had a purpose when Classic WoW servers didn't exist. Now that we have actual official servers, why would anyone play on a private server?
Worldbuffs, farmers, boosting and bots and most importantly an unhinged racist woke Blizzard company I refuse to fund.

The pop is low on Turtle WoW, though diplomacy helps a bit (you can group with the other faction). Also players aren't hiding in boosted runs and will generally want to pug. If the pop was a little higher it would be ideal to me.

This is my husband's favourite expansion. He had a bloodelf  Warlock.

I'll only dabble in this if they have separate vanilla and tbc servers.

It will interesting to see those statistics later and see the number of people that remain in classic versus TBC. It will put to rest many of the controversial arguments over the popularity of expansions versus vanilla.

I was just going to post the same. That's what it'll take to get me back into "Classic."

I quit WoW before Burning Crusade - never played the game again, never will. I have really fond memories of vanilla WoW - I have no desire to play again as those memories the way they are cannot be matched - this I know.

This is why I never went back to vanilla WoW and why I will never play again.

Should have done the same with EQ1 - as the memories I had from 1999-2001 are the peak of MMORPG experience for me - playing P99 has never matched the original and has soured the game for me honestly.

So the lesson learned for me - if you have great memories - let them be, don't try to "relive the past and recapture the feeling" - as it's never going to be the same.

That's just my 2c - to each their own.

Burning Crusade kinda hurt the game imo......THe gear shot up substantially and the gear treadmill became worse than ever...I hit level 70 with a couple toons and I'd seen enough and left. IIRC this was the point where they started to have multiple server dungeons and instant queues for dungeons and the community fell apart as a result.

I guess you've never even checked them out.  Each iteration of the game has a private server.  Like Mists of Pandaria best?  you can only relive it on private servers.  Like WOTLK best?  ditto.

Eventually your statement will make sense but right now it doesn't.  And frankly, some private servers add new content and events.

The other thing is that many people like fresh servers and starting over.  You can't really get that from Blizzard except when they add TBC, but that won't be fresh forever.

As I recall the group finder did come with BC but it wasn't cross-server at first, that came later, maybe with WotLK but I don't remember exactly when.

WoW had dungeon finders in Vanilla.  They didn't actually work, but they existed.  The real dungeon finder then was /who.

Every server turns to a progression server heading in to BC, at log in you have the option to put your toon on 1 of 2 classic servers forever.

You have to pay a one time fee to have your character(s) on both i think.

What i wonder is what if i wanted to finish a character to 60 then go to a BC? Maybe that token or whatever you buy handles that.

Classic/vanilla has a distinct different feel from all of WoW, BC included. I would have preferred to have a Classic Plus.

The drop down box to put you in random groups was WoTLK.  Burning had a way to flag yourself LFG and a window showing everyone flagged for you to invite from.

I'm guessing you'll have to choose to stay on vanilla then when you're ready you'll have to pay to transfer or copy to a bc server.
