I have always admired this about the races in Everquest. They have never just stuck a head to a human body. They go all out and make sure the race looks like a real different race. How awesome are the Sarnak playable race and the Frogloks?
I usually get around lvl 40 with a ton of AA then lose interest. Maybe pvp will help. I just wish the attributes didn't feel so homogenized. I also think there is a bit to many abilities and spells. I love the idea of changing abilities and spells through AA, like how you can do a melee inquisitor. I just wish there was an attribute difference between melee and caster inquisitors in platemail.
Progressing on a PVP server definitely keeps things much more exciting as you always have to be aware of your surroundings and keep on your toes. Activities like simple harvesting and gathering wont be so mundane anymore as you'll be spinning your camera and watching your tracking window (if you're a scout) constantly looking out for enemy players.
Those boring "kill 10 rat" quests are now carefully planned and executed covert ops missions as you find your quest objectives, scout the area for enemies, take note of any get away routes you might need you get in get out, "Phewwww you made it excitement"
Then when you have finally got the hang of things and actually become the hunter lurking in the shadows ready to pounce on your prey it just brings a whole new excitement to the gameplay that I've come to love and EQ2 did it really really good during the beginning years where they are going to lock this new server at.
(fingers crossed) they fix all the broken gizmos and thingamajigs, and dedicate time to make things right for us. From the communication they have given us so far it looks like this is the plan and they are going to do it
Discord seems to be poppin, lots of excitement surrounding this server (unlike the craptastic seasonal pvp servers they tried a few years ago. Nobody wants to put time into something that's just going to get erased in a few months) Lots of folks saying their entire groups and guilds are coming back. The Russian players are even making Youtube videos announcing they are returning again. Just all in all this is really shaping up to be something great.
For those who are thinking about jumping in but have never played EQ2 PVP before I would suggest rolling a scout class that can stealth and track so you can move around much more easily and be able to better choose when you want to engage another player.
You have the main DPS classes Ranger/Assassin, The support Bards, Dirge with melee buffs, Troubador with mage buffs, the Swashbuckler that gets some AOE attacks, and the Brigand which also has great DPS and some debuffing utility.
I really liked assassin in Age of Conan... in PvP does positioning and hit boxes matter... e.g. movement and kiting... back hits and avoiding? That was a big part of me doing 1v2 and 1v3. If not, ranger would probably be better.
Oh and is there player collision, also important for melee kiting.

Yes there are many attacks where you must be either flanking, behind, or in stealth to execute. And no, you cannot run through a player, you must go around to get into these positions.

I played both and EQ2 has a way bigger PVP population. You'll run into 1 vs 1's and raid vs raid groups and everything in between. The problem with the most recent PVP attempts in EQ2 have been that no one wanted to play those seasonal servers and get all their progress wiped after 3 months or whatever it was.
The other problems that ruined the first PVP servers was not addressing balance issues when they released new expansions/content. This go around they are locking the server and not progressing past TSO and making it permanent. So once they dial everything back in the server should be balanced and be good to go. It can then live on as a "EQ2 PVP Classic" server forever.
I found this video to show off some of the PVP, lots of the old videos are bad quality and have horrible music, this ones not too bad. And I've seen Acoloss the video's uploader chatting it up in the EQ2 Discord.
What's PvP endgame like? Battlegrounds? Guild vs Guild sieges? RvR or Faction vs Faction zones? Open Raids (where you can pvp inside a raid PvE dungeon)? Etc.
Is it full loot, partial loot? Any death penalties or murder system?

I don't know if those exact details are out or not yet but if its like the past it'll be a % of your coin is dropped (so always bank your coin) and one random unattuned item has a chance to drop.
End game is whatever you want it to be. I am not really interested in PvP(except WAR's "RvR" lake zerg, that is very fun when it's approx 24v24, but I might very well be playing a typical Battleground / Scenario then), but EQ2 is such a good, rich game.
In fact, it is so rich, that it is completely unapproachable to me. I just feel like an alien in a beautiful world. There's absolutely nothing to latch onto.
The one good thing I recognized from the OP, some factions will be limited to +/-4 (approximately). That's good because that aligns with how the combat mechanics work. If something is outside a +/-4 range (that's level, btw), it is either no challenge or no chance. At least they aren't trying to 'sell' something different and are adjusting their 'marketing' to the realities of the game. That hasn't always been the case.
