New World is steaming ahead towards it launch this August, and the patch notes today give a glimpse into how that development is progressing. The notes add the new Ice Gauntlet weapon, as well as provide more incentives for PvP in Aeternum.

Curious to see what more they have in store until release.
Y'all jelly yet?
Invite waves for this are rare like hell. But anyway, the game is progressing well as this update shows more signs of, stuff like questing still needing much improvement.
Good luck with that.
Obviously they never played RvR games... those who do play... zergs just rotate capture points or ninja them (right after the point is captured and players move on). This is rookie PvP stuff.
Give me a seperate open world PvP server.
100% agree. This won't do much of anything to encourage PvP. I have no problem with games that want to ensure they have a PvE player base, but New World is trying to convince PvP players there is a place for them where clearly as the game is designed right now, will fall flat on its face.
What's worse, the PvE sucks.
Would not be surprised is they push this launch date back, or even cancel this game.
That was my first thought when I read about the capture points. Corps will get together and point swap. But whatever, that has never affected me in games that had that (as far as my enjoyment of the game).
Honestly I don't see why they don't do an open-world FFA server based off what they had in the first alpha. If there is enough demand for it keep it up. I'm a PVE guy but I like to dabble in PVP (AKA get farmed by PVP'ers) once in a while .
I like that there are multiple PVP options being pushed out..this increases the likelihood that I - as a mostly PVE guy - will find a PVP option that I enjoy. I like to PVP now and again to spice up the PVE gameplay.
I was in the first Alpha, but no luck after that. Haven't played since the last preview event...so ya a bit jelly
So you won't get ganked by your own faction or starting point/zones
But yes, I would like a FFA pvp server... I'll be the first to farm the gankers of new players... and allow new players safe passage on the server.
Now they just need to take the equally exclusive mobs vs. fort PvE event out of sign-up-and-hope-to-be-chosen, instanced 50 v. mobs and bring that into the open world for anyone playing at the time of the invasion to participate.
More baby steps on the way to making this a real MMO but good steps.

??
It's as easy as having PvP-specific end-game rewards, such as for crafting, vanity, etc. Season Point'ish ladder for each faction as well an attractive solution to give point & progression to it.
PvP on New World already is more of a natural progression, if anything a lot of players are annoyed is about how long you need to go through PvE to get to the point the PvP content opens up.
This would feel ok, if it was an Idie shop in alpha...but this is supposed to be flagship Amazon Studios (best of the best.. talent + tools + $) MMORPG AAA launch.
It is sad how underwhelming it is...
The design on the whole "chance to participate" on this defining wars instead of being fixed up is the only main thing helping to avoid what happens on other similar games where a powerful alliance / coalition controls the map, hand-holding, etc, that are the dark side of a sandbox MMO of the likes.
The accessibility and the lack of guarantees on who fights and what guild gets represented for the claim at least saw that ahead of time and is doing a /dodge on it.
It's sad you have to grind capture points to get into a lottery for a 50 v 50 that lasts 30 mins... hilarious.
I can log into Warhammer RoR and be in 300 v 300 siege any day with no time limits but strategy (2008 game)
Their development has been laughable with a total refocus of the game and unrealistic timelines to launch their "new and improved" version.
I'm not talking about that nor do I care if it launches in 4 or 40 months.
What I'm talking about is that they're finally doing what they needed to do instead of just slapping a flag on PvP and thinking they were done as was the case before they canned the former AGS director and brought in a new one.

These devs really know little about PvP and I have little faith in their testing.
the principal winners will be streamers.
(and yes, i played "beta" but still not convinced with the news...)
Your open world PvP server would be dead within 6 months.
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.
