It's popularity is actually pretty good for a strategy rpg. Selling that many millions of copies is not by accident. The latest release did elevate the series' exposure here in the west and going forward this vaunted series will probably do very well in west. It's exposure and success lately is similar to what happened with Yakuza. I mean if you look at nearly every list from any source strategy rpgs do not rank as high as traditional rpgs (or other game genres for that matter) anyway. As stated before it is a a niche genre within a niche genre. Trying to compare the popularity of a game like Wyldermyth or Fire Emblem to Skyrim or The Witcher Series or Mass Effect seems misrepresentative. But all this is known by everyone here already.
Its not that popular in the west the data backs it up .. as was shown . Ironically your post confirms its lack of traction here..
Never let the Facts get in the way of your perceived Truth...
Nintendo revealed that Fire Emblem: Three Houses has sold over three million copies worldwide since its debut in the summer of 2019. This makes it the best-selling game in the series, surpassing prior successes like Fire Emblem Fates and Fire Emblem Awakening
Thats pretty bad when you start to consider sales of other games ..
Stop being that way. I never said it was popular in the west. Not once did I say that. There is no reason for this type of response. Strategy rpg games are not going to sell as well as other more mainstream genres. Regardless of series. Please consider that instead of just trying to argue just to argue. I'm not the enemy here and this kind of response from you is getting so tired and predictable. Most of us are all just trying to be friendly here. Please just stop being so argumentative. All. The. Time. It's exhausting. I am afraid this type of 'banter' is the reason so many other long timers are finally just leaving this community.
Go back and read the entire thread would be my advice ,...
1. i like FE and use it as a comparison in OP
2. All i did was respond to Kyleran saying" And here I've never heard of Fire Emblem until today."
I responded with simply ..." Its not very popular in the West "
Which the data proves ..
But ironically it was you and others that were argumentitive of that simple (factual) statement that got us here ..
Lol if you would like me to start posting strategy RPG sale games numbers that will blow FE away i will ...
It does not even produce good numbers in the mobile industry over 4 years which most anything sells well
You just dont like facts that dispute your silly claims ..
Its exhuasting
I umm... what? That one is blatantly false. FE Heroes is incredibly profitable. Is your standard for success in the industry literally Candy Crush, Clash of Clans, and Genshin Impact?
Stop spouting shit, and learn to format.
Heroes is indeed very profitable. I think even Nintendo was surprised by how well it has performed.
LOl that does not make it popular in the West ..
Now does it ..
Most western gamers dont know what it is .. as was shown in this very thread .. for ex..
Chopsticks sell well globally also
And ill add in the world of Mobile sales ... Thast not good ..
The top 30 Mobile games globally are in the Trillions of $ .. as in 10 Trillion for the top games
So in perspective FE Heroes has less than 1/10th the top games in mobile ..

you are trying to show sales for the mobile to argue that i said its not very popular in the west , what is your point of providing the data then, for shits and giggles ..
Why else would you provide the data other than to dispute the point ..
By disputing the point you argue it .. Its common sense..
Let's drop the east/west pedantry because it's irrelevant. 3 million isn't just good for a SRPG - it's good for a JRPG.
The most recent game is above:
Tales of Xenoblade Chrono Trigger (unless you count its multiple re-releases in the total) Octopath Traveler Shin Megami Tensei Valkyria Chronicles Suikoden's TOTAL franchise sales Final Fantasy Tactics Legend of Heroes Ys
On par with:

Non-coincidentally, one is the literal biggest IP on the planet and the others are all Square powerhouses.

I never said a word about the west you did. I never claimed it was a success in the west. I was not even talking to you. I showed that as Aeander was talking about it's success and I agree with them it has done very well for N maybe even surprisingly so considering that chart is from Jan 2020. Not everything is a big ulgy argument Sorch. Why are you being like this towards me? I agree with you and you argue on and on for no reason. You ruined what could have been a perfectly good thread with this.
Yeah. I'm also done with it.
He can't just accept that it's big and growing. That it's relevant and has been classified as a major IP by Nintendo themselves. He has to judge a JRPG - a game made by and for Japan - on its ability to compare to western IPs in the west (which is baffling and fuckawful criteria).
One, fuck Valheim. No one will be taking about it in a year, just like all other boring, irrelevant survival guff.
Two, out of genre comparisons are trash and borderline non-sequitor. Look, I can do that too. Valheim isn't big because it didn't sell Call of Duty numbers, hurrgity fucking durr.
Three, sales numbers aren't a mark of quality. As evidenced by the sales of fucking Valheim.
Four, why are you obsessed with the regional distinction when it is irrelevant.
Five, you, a random poster on the internet, are not an authority on what is and isn't big. When the company making some of the biggest IPs in the world says that they consider something a major IP, it's a major IP.

All i said again was simply ..
Its not very Popular in the West ..
And you got us here .. by disputing that ..
Its a major ip in Japan etc .. not in the west .. the data backs it up /period ..
Are you going to say that FE is Very popular in the West .. plz do ..
Otherwise everything that has been typed after i said .. Its not very poular in the West is moot
But reading comp ya know .. it seems to elude some folks ..
And wether anyone remembers Valheim in a year is not relevant at all ..
Whats relevant is that it sold near the same amount in 10 months that the FE series sold in 30 years .. Which that fact is relevant to boths popularity .. whcih has brought us full circle ..
Back to ................ Its not very popular in the West ...........simple as that ...
Why that rages you is very odd .. Its a good game .. just not popular with Western audiences and some of the furture design decisions may push that further imo ..
And now that im looking back at the thread ... you have derailed it enough dont ya think ..

[mod edit[
Again, out of genre sales figures are a bad metric. Period. I can play that too. Valheim is now irrelevant because its 10 million sales are nothing compared to Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, and Call of Duty. See the problem with being disingenuous?

Yes, reading comprehension is hard when you format like a heroin-addicted squirrel with ADHD.

Is FE a Popular series in the West ..
Yes or No ....
really very simple ....
Answer
To shut you up, Fire Emblem (a JAPANESE RPG) is not yet popular in the west, goldfish can't climb trees, World of Warcraft doesn't perform with people who don't like MMOs, and Scorchien hasn't demonstrated the value of his inane point nor why he brought it up in the first place.
This wiki page lists franchises and games by sales numbers as reported by Nintendo. Fire Emblem has sold over 16M copies at number 18, outselling F-Zero, Xenoblade, and Star Fox. https://vgsales.fandom.com/wiki/Best_selling_Nintendo_games
LMFAO , so you post lists that are ONLY Nintendo games and you are amazed that FE appears on it .. lol wtf ..aint that rich .. cant make this shit up ..
Of course if you ONLY include Nintendo games it will appear ..
Shocking ..
Fact is if you include ALL game platforms , it does not appear at all or is way down the list as i showed
Its like claiming Ecco the Dolphin is one of the best RPGs ever and only posting a list of SEGA Rpgs .. For it to compete against ..
Meaningless
Lol . and the fact that even on a list of ONLY Nintendo it is in the 70s , speaks volumes of how it would fare aganist all platforms and confirms it place in actual rankings that are fair and include all Platforms
It's a Nintendo game. I'm not sure why you'd compare your mediocre indie game to Fire Emblem "that isn't popular in the west" to western gamers to buy it.
It's a Nintendo platform game. There are only a few Nintendo platform games that will show up on global charts. You said it wasn't popular in the west, but it is with Nintendo gamers and I showed you it's the 18th most sold franchise on Nintendo. I never said it was very popular with PC gamers. I just said it's popular in the west with Nintendo gamers.
But this isn't about some two bit overpriced indie or Fire Emblem. Like always this is just about you needing to be right and always rude about how you go about it.
Replying to your threads or posts really isn't worth the time. I forgot that for a moment.
That's what it really is. Needing to feel right and superior for no reason.
Meanwhile I'm just celebrating that my favorite franchise, once on the brink of cancelation, is now alive and well and on the rise. It felt vindicating to see it win a popularity contest at the Game Awards. It felt good to see it doing well. It felt great to hear coworkers and friends talking about it on their own for once.
Also, it makes me feel wary of starting a Dark Deity thread. That's a much better game that is actually indie Fire Emblem, actually really fun, and one of the most legitimate SRPG competitors the franchise has had since FF Tactics and Shining Force a lifetime ago.
