Crowfall is releasing this tuesday, and regardless of your feelings about a PvP based game or not, I find it extremely odd that we have gotten almost no news or front page articles about its launch. The Alpha/Betas have been very up and down, they tried a ton of different systems, and have settled on a system that they think works for them, pretty in-depth crafting that would make people who enjoy a mix of SWGs and GW2 style creation, with item durability that cant be repaired so that the player economy keeps going, Campaign PvP with FactionVFactionVFaction, GuildVGuild, and a Murderdome which is 12 teams of 5 doing a 30 minute battle royale, and on top of that they have a sandbox Kingdom you can create and expand with land parcels that can be solo or shared with your guild or friends, player housing, crafting stations, NPC Vendors you hire to sell your stuff to other people who visit your Kingdom, literal Bazaar worlds that have cropped up since there is no Auction House, I feel this game has a ton of stuff to offer people, something that might interest people who would never consider this type of game, and yet barely a peep from the article writers? Seems a bit of a miss and let down.

Crowdfunded MMOs because of their nature - the need to raise money all through their development - have hype and over-hype for years. It gets tiresome for me to hear about every tiny detail ("now our carts have wheels!!!!") constantly and I imagine it's much the same for writers.
Games that are not crowdfunded can stay relatively quiet (although that's difficult these days since if they don't hype it, some "content creator" will do it for them) and start a targeted marketing campaign a month or two before release. That's what we're seeing with New World right now and why it's getting more coverage than Crowfall.

Crowfall is unfortunately sandwiched between this and New World which is probably limiting interest in CF for now.

If you got the time I recommend watching this video, give you an idea of where Crowfall is at, because most of the peoples comments will show they dont really know anything about where the game is at.

Smart move really, if they can crossover even a small fraction of the BR market they'll have a pretty solid hit on their hands.

I think the destructible campaign world is interesting, it removes the end game issue, but adds survival like elements but I am not sure how many. They may well get a following for this.

2024: 47 years on the Net.
There's also no dungeons. That's another no-no.
Players may try it, and some may stick, but the lack of a feeling of a world is crippling, IMO.
I also think that MOBAs and the like were successful only because they were a new thing (and well done for Battle Arenas). But trying to make it into persistence beyond just the Character and gear is a detriment to that sort of game and it's players. "Needless drag" and that sort of thing. I just don't see that concept as something that will stick.
I don't see "world" and "arena" meshing well.
Once upon a time....
The Starter world is persistent, and have 4 different realms you can fight over, each faction ones 1 realm and the Central realm is a more free for all faction fight. This is still int he starter world, so the faction realms only drop 50% of your carried gold and no items, and the Central realm called Sky Point has you drop 100% of carried gold and no items. These are persistent, with forts and keeps and outposts constantly changing hands and giving you plenty of action if you want it.
Next you have Infected Campaigns, which are again Faction V Faction V Faction, where you drop all of your inventory, and the world only last for a certain set time, generally 30 days, and there are many many tiers of rewards you can earn here, from the most crafted, the most kills, the most captures, all the way to the top Faction with the most points, once the timer is up, people get rewards, and you can withdraw gear and resources you got from these Campaigns into your Eternal Kingdom or Starter Kingdom Vault for use. Here you will drop 100% of carried gold and your carried inventory, but not equipped gear, I also stress that these areas are where you will find the top crafting mats, so you will have to go here to harvest, however harvesters only drop 50% of carried materials instead of 100% of it.
Finally you have Dregs Campaigns, which are Guild v Guild, no limit on the guilds competing here, and again tons of rewards you can earn for yourself and your guild, such as relics that you then install in your Guilds Eternal King, which give your entire guild buffs and bonuses. The rewards vary and typically you and your guild will focus on achieving a certain reward tier to get what they want, but some go for the big cheese and win the top guild spot. After the Campaign ends, you get you rewards and a new Campaign will start and you can do better next time if you didnt meet your goal, or you can work towards a new one if you did. Again you drop everything except equipped gear, and harvesters only drop 50% of carried materials.
If this doesnt interest you, then its all good, its definitely a Niche game not ment for everyone, but if you wanna make a name for yourself whether thats being the best Crafter, the Best Faction, or the Best Guild, then Crowfall will have a spot for you.

You make an excellent point about flexibility. I agree that they may be able to use that to better the game continually.
I hope I'm wrong about my previous post, and that players interested in Crowfall end up with a great game. Heck, I may try it. It's been a long time since I've played an MMORPG.
I'm ready for something that's not the same ol' same ol'.
Besides, I've always liked Gordon Walton.
And then there's the Koster input on economics, too.
I'll have to check out their power gaps. If it's like most MMORPGs, I'll lose interest quickly. I hope it's tamed down some.
Once upon a time....
No, probably not true as there comes a point where if devs remove enough features of what made games MMORPGS they cease to resemble them much anymore.
For me that line was crossed back around 2006 or so.
