Why so many stories we can't talk about?

I am having a really hard time figuring this out. If something is newsworthy enough to post, why not allow discussion about it? Over half the stories I clocked on in the last couple weeks had comments turned off. If this is a news and discussion/community site, I have a hard time figuring out the strategy with this. Why not allow letting us talk about major game industry news? Was this explained? Is there a sticky post somewhere? Any sites recommended where people are allowed to talk about news posts?
