Maps are something every MMO out there has, but oftentimes they aren't necessarily the most detailed - or informative. Bradford hopes that as players explore New World and get used to its map it becomes a turning point for MMO map design moving forward.

Faulty player trade ON is the nr 1 issue.
After having played Crowfall, the New World map has been super special.

I do not want maps full of information unless I put that information on the map.
Geesh 30 year old games got it right as the idea of a Cartographer has been around a very long time.
I see all the shooters and they have glowing lights coming off loot or destination markers in the air and markers showing where all the players are.
I want the games and worlds to be as realistic as possible and not the other way around catering to lazy and hand holding.
As for resource gathering ,the way Atlas does it is EXACTLY how i want to see it done.You travel and explore to different biomes to find different resources.You might have to build a ship to get across water and these studios could take those ideas in many more directions to add depth to the games.
I am forever seeking game design improvements and not ways to dumb down gaming because it is easier and simpler to do.
I mean geesus are we going to commend Blizzard for selling instant max level characters too?When i see DUMB ideas i am going to call it out everytime,i do not want any influencing of bad ideas ,i want games to get better not worse.
Point being that if Amazon studios created a Cartography system,then i might give them some credit for game design ,otherwise i doubt they do much of anything amazing.

I agree. To make it easy there should be different map pins or icons you could apply to the location your standing at. You find some iron ore, go to your map, scroll thru the icons till you see the iron ore icon then click it and it applies an icon on your map to the location your standing on.
Trading your map to others would be neat but you would eventually have filled maps that would be passed around and all would be lost to new players.
faction gear is just second rated gear. yes your newbie weapon crafter will be bad but in the end only endgame gear counts and the best is crafted (atm at least)
Tho there loads of improvements to be made. in beta I had to buy crafted weapons (coz i was lazy) due to needing repair parts and it was in beta just more effective then trying to collect them from mobs.
Crafting could be good in this game but it completely Depends how long the game keeps growing since durability is just a annoyance and not a gear breaker. no new players = no new sales (gear)
Making goods that are always needed is longterm the best way to go.
Potions (arcana) - you can buy faction mana and health potions but not regen potions and those stack together. resistance potions and sutch will also always be needed
Ammo (engineer) - theirs various ammo that always will be in demand
Food(cook)- food is really powerful, far far faaaaar more stuff to gather to make em but total worth it.
All other crafting has a real risk to stop/die at some point as long durability has no real effect.
And once everyone has the items they want it won't matter anyway....or their groovy gathering and crafting because there is no item loss the economy for crafters will be dog shit at best

Trade isn't the issue in-games, just so you know. If anything, is the devs and the...features/concepts behind their game(s).

Yes, the devs and the faulty feature of Trading will bring RMT and Boosting communities from WoW to NW.
90% of the servers, at least 90% of them are wiped and claimed in less than 30 days if factions wont be capped and balanced

Faction gear is not the BIS gear compared to high level crafting nor drops from expeditions or other higher level events later on.

It's not easy to read and not intuitive. Gathering is the same as in the other theme park games.

Very much this. There should be a degree of randomness in the spawning of materials, and also the fishing hotpots need to be randomised to promote exploration. I like to think they're aware of this but who knows.

It can be used to keep track of what you yourself have found or the far more popular cheesy use of it which is to merge your database with that of thousands of other players and then use that merged database to know the location of every spawn, everywhere.
In ESO these are also static spawn spots which in fact is the norm for pretty well every MMO. Some disguise the static nature of the resource spawns by having a set of possible locations in a given area but usually just 2 or 3 places it can spawn.
If any MMO has truly random, procedurally generated, resource spawns, I'm not aware of that MMO.
