I have played very little of this game, but I still can't believe how pretty it is, and how smooth it runs. Like butta.

Hasn’t the game been in closed beta for a long time already?

Is this the announcement of the free Stress Test?

Skimmed article but on phone. May have missed.

We need that Duce guy to pop in and spam a few threads about how we need to buy this game :)

But If this is a free Stress test I'll download it again. No chance Heinrich gets my money again for an unfinished product but if he has a complete game this time (including all the territory control, sieging and free form building then I'll give it a fair shake. If this is an "Early Access" we will finish the game later deal, then FUCK NO... thats what you said for MO1.

I have almost 1000 hours into MO2 atm, Its really something else. I have helped grow a fantastic guild(I call it a family) and am a part of a great alliance. Its a sand box so you gotta make your own content, but trust me.....its there. Dungeons, bosses, pvp, crafting and more.

lol strawhat you are not building confidence, esp by mentioning SC. I myself am interested in the medieval aspect, definitely not interested in the forever development cycle that is SC.

You seem to be the most knowledgeable person here for a couple of questions.

What is the loot system like? It is just basic armor and weapons with minor bonuses given to higher level metals or is the crafting deep enough to delve into magic items?

Is there magic abilities or spells or is it just melee and arrows for ranged with no casters or healers?

Loot is full loot, you drop everything. That being said, gear is relatively easy to come by. The crafting system is really good, it takes some time, gathering/refining, aquiring the knowledge is greatly sped up in beta, so it's easy to jump into. There are plenty of ways to make gold, there is an auction house... If you go to their forum site there are plenty of resources and player guides that explain everything. If you look where it has come since October, it's pretty amazing. Henrik and his team are doing a great job.

! average over 100FPS on ultra, the world is gorgeous.

I played Mortal Online for a short period of time. It felt unfinished, unpolished and rather clunky in many of its systems. The world felt...empty and activities felt rather unrewarding. The game loop felt like a massive time sink.

Both titles are definitely a unique offering. As far I can see MO2 improved on some of the first title failings, but I’m not convinced this is really 3D version of Ultima Online spirit. Or it could be I just value my time more.

Full-Loot. The crafting system is complex. You can craft same armor type in various materials. The better the material (and your recipe) the better the outcome. It's even visual a difference, if you use more leather the armor will look like leather armor, if you use golden iron it's going to be golden, silver - silver and so on..
Basic Armor and weapons is easy to get, so the full loot aspect isn't that hard. And you could win against one in endgame gear, if you're just a better player. So it's skill based.

Yes there is magic. And the most interesting magic system i've ever seen. There will be about 12 magic schools later on (right now 2 in the game), each has about 12 abilities. You need the required ingredients in order to cast the spells. For some spells you need to fit the requirements for the magic. For example, some dark magic needs to be casted in a cloudy area, so you need to manipulate the weather first. Later on you will be able to change body parts into monster like claws and so on.

Also this game will have world bosses, open pvp dungeons, POI's (as secret caves, demonic portals), a great TC system and open world housing.

Just ask for access to the stress test in 2-3 weeks on steam page and test it for yourself.

I wasn't sure about this game either, i bought access around december last year and totally fell in love with it. I wish i knew from mortal online earlier but propably wouldn't have tried the first game just because of the graphics. But it is a truly unique gaming experience.

You are right...3D version of Ultima it aint....I consider full loot PvP sandbox to be my favorite of all genre but this game just isnt there yet...The combat is clunky and slow, it just isnt fun. The world is boring and uninspired...same old fantasy shit, just like 80% less of it than normal. The UI when I played was the worst most unintuitive thing I have seen in years, I know the game is going for an old school feel but this is ridiculous. To top it all off they want like 40$ plus a sub price for an unfinished looking game....yeah no thanks...

there will be like 1k people playing this after hype dies down, and most of them will be people who played MO1 and are trying to convince everyone else how great this is... so wars will consist of the same 8 people talking shit and killing each other over and over again...The game looks pretty though...I'll give it that.

No such thing as forced PVP, just PVP games. Otherwise we also need to start calling games where PVE is needed for levelling/XP/resources "forced PVE".

And EVE, Albion, Rust are doing fine. The fact that UO could not make FL OW PVP work does not mean that it axiomatically does not work.

I will never understand people going into FL PVP game threads just to bash FL PVP. Like a vegan going to a steakhouse to complain about all the meat.

Very simple. All those games FAIL. Except UO, which added a PvE version of their world, and who are still up 25 years after the initial release.
FFA PvE MMORPG with full loot and no restrictions is a recipe for failure. And the MO developers definitely haven't learned that from their first game.
What would you say to the people that went into every game without PvP and complained about questing? Then tried to justify their position by listing off every failed MMO that has quests?... which is a lot more than failed MMOs with PvP, I can guarantee that.

Would you find this to be a justified act, complaining over and over about the same thing? Would you accept their justifications of failed games as valid?

    Just food for thought.

I feel it is more prevalent simply because of the reactions you can get. When a PvEer goes to a PvP game and complains they get responses and curses. Happened to me recently when I was asking about the flagging in Corepunk on youtube. I got called a few names.

When a PvPer goes to a PvE game and complaints about the lack of PvP it hardly gets any responses let alone some curses or anger. People like to poke the bear I think and when you get no reaction it might reduce the occurrences. In my opinion the abuse you get on Reddit and so on when you ask questions in a PvP game from a PvE point of view is rather bad.

I think both communities have their own type of territorial bad behaviour.

There is also this fear among PvP players that their game is going to get watered down so they instantly become defensive and abusive to a player asking questions or making suggestions.

You cannot make sweeping generalizations on what a PvP player does over a PvE player based on the tiny proportion of comments here when I can point to far worse behaviour on Reddit and Youtube and esp on the forums of the games itself.

I also don't consider it wrong for someone to comment on the viability of a game or point to previous failures, those are valid points. What I do find is that often it just leads to pointless fights. It does contribute to increased traffic for the thread though so it is all good.

Good  for you but I have experience that is not limited to our tiny forum. You have to admit constantly pointing out the few posters who do this isn't going to change anything.

Every time a PvP game dies or changes its focus the PvEers will come to gloat over it. This dynamic isn't going to change.

Might I remind you that you were never on these forums when we had hardcore PvP players that were pretty obnoxious. Your experience of our forums is truly at its decline so it's hardly representative of what it once was.

Corepunk in fact has made some suggestion that they are considering PvE servers. I won't even bother to tell you how that thread went on Reddit.... it was nasty.

I go to a lot of PvP game forums and also threads and make my observations. I am generally a PvEer who plays PvP games and I play it by not participating in the PvP. So I think whatever my ideas or observations are is valid from my perspective and I don't understand the abuse I often encounter. I put it down to pure fear that the game's focus will change.

Like what happened with New World and the fact that Corepunk is actually considering PvE servers.

I petitoned for PvE server for DAoC and I recall the mile long threads we had on VN Vault (rest in peace). Arguments like this will always go on and quite honestly it will never stop.

I think the major difference is PvPers don't go into non-PvP games specifically to trash the game for a lack of PvP. We see that quite often with PvEers complaining about PvP. They say nothing constructive, they just complain about PvP and talk about the game failing because of that.

The complaints I have seen with PvPers generally comes when a game/developer switches its focus away from PvP after selling it as a PvP game (see New World), or when PvEers complain about PvP in a game that has a good amount of both.

This game does look interesting even though I'm not a huge fan of full loot PvP. I do like the idea behind a survival MMO, I'm just a little hazy on the usefulness of how magic is used and how deep or diverse the loot table/crafting will be.

Just to be perfectly clear: I was there when UO almost failed and had to patch in Trammel to survive. I've been doing PvP in a MMO before many even knew MMOs where a thing. I've also witnessed the utter failure of Shadowbane.
All the PvP MMOs who survived made CONCESSIONS. EVE being the first. Not a single FFA PvP with full loot survived mainstream going strong and successful without making those concessions to protect PvE activities.

And Rust... please, we talk about MMORPGs here, not survival small scale games.
I don't know of too many FFA PVP, full loot games that have been made. The only two I've played are UO and Eve and both of them are still going. It looks like Shadowbane lived for 6 years, which isn't horrible although not ideal.

I do believe if a game with PvP wants to be marketable to the masses, it would probably be better off if they separated PvE and PvP for the most part with each effecting the other in small but fun ways (think DAoC). That said, I'm not opposed to a full loot PvP system if done in a fun way.

All that said, it still has nothing to do with people who don't like full loot PvP (or really any PvP), popping into games that are based in PvP, trashing them and claiming they will fail because of the PvP.

Plenty of MMOs without PvP have failed. It doesn't take PvP to kill an MMO.

they understood. and they decided to make a niche game for PvP players. you want PvE games? you can chose from all of them out there, mate.

and now shush! or we will tell Q where you are!

IF MO2 fails it won't be because it is a PvP game.  It will be because it follows the path of MO one and releases in an incomplete state with promises to fix/finish it later.

This no-wipe "Early Access" launch sounds far to much like how they released MO1.  You would think they would have learned...

Couldn't agree more...the main difference between the PvP and the PvE crowd is when someone makes a PvE game the PvP people dont pile into the forums demanding the developers mold the game to PvP standards of fun. You try to put full loot PvP into just 1 out of 15 games and these PvE people lose their fucking minds thinking every game should be made for them....I'll play whatever full PvE full PvP or a mix I just want to have fun.

That's not true at all. I've seen both pvp players and pve players petition for their interests.

Heck, I can remember it as far back as the Lord of the Rings Online Closed betas where there was a whole separate thread of players insisting that the IP was rich for a pvp experience.
