    About 1/3 done with the 39 GB download.

    In case you guys don't know, if it works like the betas did, you have access to game settings before the game launches. You can pre-set anything you want, rebind keys, etc., ahead of time.

    I saw on steam forum you can also reuse the beta client as in start download for new world launch replace the files with the beta ones and then let steam recheck the the files...I am doing a from scratch install though myself.

    This makes steam just download the missing files and update any that need it.

    @Iselin btw my steam is showing the launch files are 37.3 gb not 39?

    Mine shows 39.4. No idea why they'd be different but bigger's better right? :)

    I suppose I'd see if it updates after you download that, especially since the download isn't that long.

    That said, that's not the logo for New World I had while downloading. I had the one with Captain Thorne in the middle, the players on the right, and the mobs on the left...or rather the same one on the ads here.

    It could just be the way Steam/Win10 handles disks and estimates things... mine's on a 1TB PCIe NVMe... no idea if that makes a difference.

    @Iselin and @Hengist ;  Ah I am told the correct size on download is 37.3gb...the 39.4 is when it done downloading and unpacked.

    Mine says 37.3G to download, 39.4G to install on disk. Probably some compression effects.

    Yes games usually DL in a compressed state to make the dl faster less  big then uncompress during the actual install.  

    Just some miscommunication here as peeps got confused with dl size and actual game folder size when installed. :D

    You're right.

    I just took a closer look at the new fancy Steam downloader for this game (like @Hengist I have the Captain thorn graphics) and it actually shows both, 37.3 and 39.4 preceded by tiny DL icon and disk icon respectively.

    I gather that if you pre ordered quite awhile ago as I don't think my boy and I got upgraded. Not quite sure when it went from f2p to b2p.

    I'm going to wait a week or so, to let you kind folks bugtest the crap out of NewWorld.  Guess it will also be a test of my character naming acumen.

    Certainly going to follow the 'Tales of the Early Adopters!' with some interest.

    If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

    2 of 4 names was taken so my boy and I have to make due with our second choices and I was in within 30sec/1 min too.  :o

    Next server batch to open is the AU/SA servers.

    Did Amazon design the game such that only one person could have a character name per server?

    Surprising as most modern games don't have this problem, often using surnames or account names such as say ESO.

    Edit: Nevermind, I see there's an entire thread on the subject confirming they not only did, but doubled down in several ways such as reserving names globally.
