New World's hits keep coming. As Amazon works furiously to fix bugs that get introduced with each successive patch, new issues are being uncovered by players everyday. The latest is an exploit that is based around the chat box, one that could see a giant sausage grace your screen - or worse.

    I am enjoying the game but damn there lots of stupid, code wise, in this game.  Far too much client side stuff, and then things like this...lol

    Check that out, it gets better. No HTML sanitization, can send a dodgy link in chat which can basically cause the client to go into an infinite loop and crash out, spawn gold and generally cause chaos.

    Earlier today, we discovered an issue where players were able to post images and other links in the chat that resulted in unsavory behaviour.

    We have enabled a fix that should resolve this issue and prevent players from abusing and exploiting this feature. This should already be enabled in each region.

    THey always bragged about how the got all these mmo vets who worked on big games to join them.
    Everyday its a major new bug that no other game has managed to have. Their screwups with this game made by industry vets, is continuing to smolder like a dumpster fire that cant be put out.

    Try the fact that the same issue can apparently be used to endlessly cash in certain quest rewards.

    But maybe this game's economy could use a little bit of infinite gold.

    I'm having a lot of fun playing NW casually.  
    I'm also having a lot of fun watching the AGS train wreck.

    I'm incredulous that they managed to screw that up.  If you can run arbitrary HTML code on someone else's computer, that shouldn't make you think "maybe you can crash the game".  That should make you think "maybe you can get malware".

    It sounds to me like their QA is very poor. Looks like they never did what we call "negative testing".

    They made sure that if you put in HTML, it would work. But never tested what would happen if someone put in malicious code.

    It takes a lot more time, but negative testing is worth it. If the tool expects you to enter a number, make sure that works, but also test what happens when someone puts "foo" in the field instead of a number.

    I think Tera had this same problem as well for a while? I forgot if they ever fixed it or not. The real danger with this is that people can supposedly disguise things as regular item text, so if someone clicks on it, it could take them to phishing sites without them knowing, especially since some people are saying you can change your name in chat as well, so they could disguise themselves as a GM and tell people to click things. FO76 had a lot of issues as well in regards to spawning things into a shared-world. Hopefully they can get it fixed, but honestly it sounds like they'll need to eventually have everyone download a new client, since most of these problems are client-authoritative (from all the videos talking about these bugs at least). Server merges are inevitable and will suck the longer it takes for them to fix these things. They might need to consider having a full-time test server (even though some are joking that the game is already that). One of the funnier things about the bug reporting is that they require you to publicly post how to replicate the problem on their bug forum, which is bad for obvious reasons.

    Curious on why this game even left the beta... I see a lot of game breaking problems on reddit. At least now the game isn't top on twitch any more. If it was i would was also curious why people lowered their standards to play this mess and make it as popular as wow back in the day. When it used to be on top to.

    Senior management decided it was high time they started seeing a return on their investment, so out the door it went.

    The parallels with FO76 are eerily similar.

    Well obviously the coding in the chat box is there so you guys can sort out any bug, modding on the go.

    They had coding in AO but that was only for useful stuff like creating guild inventory lists...not sausages. :)

    "this feature", you have to ask why was this a 'feature', do devs use chat box coding to build a game?
