Too bad it's unplayable on a controller, which means that I won't be able to play it at all. Quite apart from that, the game has a lot of major red flags:
1) They implemented full screen mode as a window that you can drag around the desktop. Most games call that windowed mode. It also doesn't cover the full screen.
...snip....
5) The game has official controller support, but it does not work at all. I'm used to controller support being wonky in PC games, but I think this is the first time I've seen a game where it does absolutely nothing at all. This actually doesn't matter, as even with controller support that worked, the game would be unplayable without WASD-like movement. But it's still really weird.
...snip..
Hmm that odd I played some with my PS3 controller and while I had some issues withn the first spider boss in the prologue a restart of my client fixed it and did maybe 30mins to 1hr play time after that with the controller without issues.
What exactly was the problem on your end? Did you actually go into the setting/controller menu and put tick the controller checkbox?
I agree I hate the point n click movement myself I just can't play games like that anymore, definitely need to play this with a controller or will pass on it.
The underlying problem is that I tried all sorts of combinations of things and could not get the built-in controller support to do anything at all. I tried the controller checkbox on, and I tried it off. I tried switching it back and forth. The only way that the game would recognize anything from my controller at all was if I used external software to remap the controller buttons to keyboard or mouse buttons, which bypasses the game's built-in controller support entirely.
As bad as point and click with a mouse is, it's a whole lot worse with a controller. Using a thumbstick to move a mouse pointer so that you can click on something is slower, less precise, and probably ergonomically worse than using a mouse to move a mouse pointer so that you can click on something.
What kinda controller are you using?
When I use my XBOX controller it pretty much autodetects everything immediately. I can even swap back and forth between controller and keyboard and it pops up a little window saying I've switched to a controller every time I do it.
The controller I use is a Logitech F310.
I find Xbox controllers incredibly awkward. I would be fine with PlayStation style controllers.
I do need software to make games playable on a controller without built-in controller support. Logitech includes such software with their drivers. In particular, it allows you to mark one button as "SHIFT" (not the keyboard keys), and then have SHIFT plus some button map to a different key (or mouse button, for that matter) than the same button without the "SHIFT" button. That's critically important to make it possible to play a lot of games that don't allow you to directly map combinations of keys to actions. It also allows mapping a thumbstick to control the mouse pointer, which is useful in a lot of games where you occasionally need to click on something with a mouse that can't be done by a hotkey.
I haven't looked into whether PlayStation controllers offer anything analogous to that when used on PC. If they do and it works, that could be an option. The controllers that I already have are Logitech, though.

Yeah maybe the playstation controller would work, asm0deus said he used a PS3 controller. I don't know if their controller support is specific to that, but my guess is they plan a console release at some point, so the main two console controllers should be supported.
I will say if you don't like the XB controller, you probably won't like the PS5 controller, if you don't like bulky controllers. Or if it's just the thumbstick position then I guess it wouldn't matter.
How you explain the setup on your logitech is basically how it runs on my XB controller. One thumbstick is used as a mouse pointer, the other is to move. You hold the left and right triggers or buttons to open up more skill combinations for the XYAB buttons.
It's a little confusing at first but you get the hang of it pretty quickly once you learn your class.

What does that mean? Lost Ark doesn't offer WASD-style movement. The only way to move is to point at where you want to go and click on it. As best as I can tell, this is hard-coded into the game and unchangeable. So if one thumbstick controls the mouse pointer, doesn't that necessarily have to be the one that controls where you move? To me, the game-breaking problem is having to use a single thumbstick for both. If you could have WASD-style movement mapped to one thumbstick (or better yet, the D-pad) and use the other to control the mouse pointer, that would be playable. But the game doesn't make that available.

Left stick I to move like as if it were mapped to wasd. Right stick acts as the mouse pointer that also allows you to click to move but I use it exclusively for the menus. D pad is for emotes and other menu items like inventory.

But how do you make it do that? Or is it just built into the controller support, and getting the game to recognize your controller is the only way to get WASD-like movement? In that case, the developers put all of the work in to make the functionality part of the game, but then mostly declined to offer it to players.
It sounds like Lost Ark may have come from the TERA school of controller support. TERA has a controller menu that has options that you'll want to use if you use a controller. But that controller support is hard disabled unless the game detects an Xbox 360 controller. In order to use any other controller, you need to download third party software that will identify itself to the game as being an Xbox 360 controller. That other software isn't an Xbox 360 controller, of course, nor is it any other type of controller. It's just a workaround for TERA's UI developers being idiots. Though TERA really isn't very controller-friendly even with the controller menu options.

Yeah you might be right. It auto detects the xbox controller and automatically switches to the left analog for movement. Not sure if there's a way to do that with mouse and keyboard. I just feel like the xbox controller gives the game a more natural feel.

Odd it perhaps something specific to you particular controller of PC set up? I Think I read some others, in this thread, played it with their xbox controller but not sure how they are set up.
Myself I have 3 ps3 controllers I use for my PC games via something called Scptoolkit which let PS3 controllers work on PC games as if they were xbox ones.

I've been waiting for this game for a very long time. You know how you build up anticipation and expectations. It is here finally, and I gotta tell ya, I am fucking loving it!

PS. By being here I meant the CBT.
It rocks how Op?
If you follow the thread I have listed 26 things that I like about the game. Feel free to ask follow-up questions, I am the representative of the fan-club, for the time being!
