while i agree 100% they probably thought since it has " pvp " players could rise up and fight the taxes they hate. little did they know 99% don't give a shit about pvp majority of the time so they suffer from a broken system that feed the 1%, much like real life.

Not raising taxes back to their absurd levels before the patch drop does not mean these pricks aren't still being Scrooge. Having any kind of gold sink in a game where making gold is not easy, is a pretty dick move. Especially so in a game where gold has been so devalued due to numerous duping exploits and run away gold seller bot farming.

So while they faff about until sometime in the future they are still expecting Bob Cratchit (the player) to grind away trough the holidays with little to no profit for himself. Meanwhile Tiny Tim (the player's enthusiasm) is caught in a slow downward spiral to death because the average player can barely keep their head above water after paying for basic needs, let alone having anything left over for any luxuries.

This game is dead! I think they should shut down, revamp the game or just toss it. It's not going to hurt their gaming business because it is pretty much nonexistent anyway. They should just focus on their shooter MMO, and use this experimental failure as a lesson learned.

As much as it seems like a complete failure they still average 100k peak a day. If they play their cards right with updates that number will only go up

Don't look now, but the numbers have significantly dipped since Sunday, well below 100K for the first time.

I've seen it in a few games now at days.  I'm not sure why they do it.  All I can think of is that it's a money sink and it has the potential to keep people logging in to make sure they don't lose their house with the stuff in it.  Like it or not, if you pay any attention to the forums, housing is a big deal for a lot of people....sorry gotta go, I hear the tax man at the door.

Except in NW it's not a money sink since all the taxes you pay go to the company that owns the territory.

You lose nothing other than the use of your house as a free teleport location and the bonuses from trophies and extra storage by not paying taxes.

They also don't accumulate. You can go away for 6 months, not pay taxes and all you have to do to get full use of your house again when you come back is pay the current week's taxes.

Just love it when clueless and cluelesser, neither of whom play the game apparently, have strong opinions about something they know fuck all about lol.

Are you high? Yes it is a money sink. Oh sure all that gold goes to the company that holds the territory. Whoop de freaking doo. If you aren't part of their little circle jerk sewing circle this means nothing. You don't get invited to the fights that really matter, and when they inevitably lose the territory to someone else, all that money and hard work goes poof, like a fart in the wind. Please explain to me how that game mechanic is in any way entertaining or fun. Oh sure it might be exciting for a couple of times but after the third or fourth time of push me pull you, watching all your hard work burn to the ground thanks to some arrogant, self serving jackasses inability to work together in some kind of coherent battle strategy, the grind to rebuild really starts to grate on one's nerves. Those little taxes start to feel like a surcharge on fun, without any real or lasting benefit. Its less a solid game mechanic and more a virtual Mafia protection scam.

Do you even know what a gold sink is?

It's when gold is removed from the game not when you transfer it to someone else and IT STAYS IN THE GAME.

I can't believe I have to even spell that out to someone who thinks I'm the one who's high LMAO.

As to all your other complaints irrelevant to gold sinks, tell it to someone who gives a shit that NW traumatized you lol.

It IS a money sink because the money leaves the game due to costs involved in managing the cities. As most of the players never see this part of the game but pay for it, it is very well a money sink, as the money actually LEAVES the game by spending it for upkeep or upgrades.

Of course there are money sinks like gear repairs, town upkeep, territory claims, etc.

But saying that housing taxes are a money sink because the company you gave the tax gold to uses some of it for money sinks is like saying that buying something from a player is a money sink because they used some of their profit to repair their gear which IS a money sink.

It's idiotic to take it that far,

Feels like you haven't played the game and don't understand the economy of the towns. The taxes go to financing the upgrades (which cost a lot). The upgrades draw people to live in the city and defend it. If the towns aren't properly defended from attack, then the stations downgrade, and the town becomes less desirable to players.

The intention is that we feel ownership over the town, which I think works quite well. We also, as players, do quests and crafting to lower our personal taxes, furthering our investment in a particular town and region. Guilds/companies which own a town, are incentivized to keep taxes low, to attract settlers, while keeping them as high as possible, to maximize upgrades and buffs.

Despite the game's many flaws, I would say this system is one of the more bold that they've made. Of course taxes as a player suck, in a way that any gold sink sucks, but the benefits of staying in a city and using its upgraded stations offsets that.

"Server merges continue, with there being some issues popping up in between"

So clearly issues then as I predicted, we just are not hearing about them on here. It seems from what has been said that such issues have been sorted, so at least that's a positive.

It seems to me just from reading posts that the tax issue depends on whether you feel involved and integrated into the company you are in, if you have to be in a company or is it just being part of a town? This goes back to what I saw previously, PvE players do not feel the tax and base system is working for them, so just like in real life if you raise taxes and the people of your tax base don't think they are getting their monies worth it causes strife.

The best way to solve this is to find ways to ensure all players feel invested in this system, there was talk about doing quests to reduce taxes, that's a good idea. You need ways for both PvE centric and PvP centric (who are not doing top raids) to feel involved.

Whew, you sure came at @Qbertq hard,  unnecessarily so IMO considering in reading through his post history he's actually a fan of NW, albeit a low level new player (and forum member) who might not understand all of the end game mechanics.

My guess is there are probably quite a few long term players who might not know where the tax money goes, especially if they don't involve themselves in the guild politics going on around them.

I suspect your wrath was more towards the poster they responded to....but I'm getting this sort of vibe here

Any time the hard work of the gaming majority becomes the benefit of a privileged gaming minority it is most certainly a goddamed gold sink. From everything has happened so far since launch, I'm not sure if they are doing this to be nice or they are prolonging it as long as possible because feel they won't get the compensation correct and end up giving everyone a million currency and have to roll back servers.
