Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda took to the Square Enix Holdings website with his New Year's Letter, which covers a number of different topics that the company aims to focus on throughout 2022. While the vast majority of the letter revolved around the influence of blockchain games, NFT and the metaverse, Matsuda also spoke of Square Enix' investment into artificial intelligence and cloud technologies and how they intend to leverage all emerging tech in the future.

Exciting time ahead.
Where then is the gaming in decentralised gaming? Where is the fun?
"So, for those that were worried that Square Enix might completely turn their backs on traditional gaming, don’t worry! There may be room in this industry for blockchain and traditional games to coexist peacefully."
No Steve, whatever any studio announces on this we know P2E will not peacefully co-exist with other financial models. Just like F2P and subscription never coexisted, games made the traditional way will convert or die.
P2E poses an existential question to gaming, when you are earning you are not gaming, it will distort the whole ethos of the hobby. There are questions that range from 'will most players make money or only a minority', to what the effect of potentially millions of people joining our games who only 'play to make money' will have on gaming.
I'm not sure what you meant there, but I'm pretty sure that that isn't it. Something as abstract as "5G wireless technology" is incapable of having its own intent. Even if you were to believe that 5G phones or base stations are now self-aware, they still wouldn't have a collective intent.
Where's John Conner when we need him?
Sounds to me Square Enix is starting to feel they're paying their game developers too much, and would rather contract out their work to players for less than minimum wage rates. I'm sure that will work out wonderfully for their games.
wait, you heard we need to pay studios less?
This was in response to Matsuda's comment regarding the expansion of 5G infrastructurally. I can happily edit the article to clarify that point. Thanks for the feedback!
Exciting isn’t always a good thing .

Your are more correct than you might want to be.
Educating your user base will help your advertisers tremedously.
This is the type of monetization that jarringly subtracts from a game. It's so ham-fisted it almost aches physically as you realize every single hero has their own set of said animations and you get exactly one animation for each with the purchase of the base game. Without buying the extra animations, your favorite heroes do the *exact same takedown every single time.*
The business people in the world do not have a single clue what gamers actually want; we may as well be guinea pigs or petri dishes to them.

Anyone want to buy a enterprise in a certain blockchain mmo? Lol I got two...fuck man nft's and stuff have been around forever. We just didn't have a term for it.
You'll never actually own a nft though. That's almost counter to why they were made.
Which was of course to sell sprite work for like 6,000 buy in.

If we're going to play pretend ownership isn't it better to go with the option where the seller acknowledges our purchase and lets us re-sell vs having to sign a ToS that forfeits the rights to what we just "bought" + all our future "purchases"?
